Weekend at Birney’s
Congratulaons on First Reconciliaon I offer my congratulaons to our young people on the occasion of their
first celebraon of the sacrament of reconciliaon. As each of these chil-
dren experience God’s love and mercy through this sacrament, it is in
preparaon and ancipaon for the recepon of yet another sacrament—
the source and summit of our faith—the Eucharist.
Please connue to pray for each of these children, that they will always
know God’s mercy and love through the grace of forgiveness.
Happy Thanksgiving As we gather together for the Thanksgiving holiday with our loved ones,
be they family, friends or strangers, I am ever mindful of all that I have to
be thankful for as the pastor of Cabrini. There are so many people who
help to make our parish such a vibrant and faith-filled community, people
who give without counng the cost, who serve without nocing the me.
While the list is endless, I would like to highlight a few groups, to whom I
offer my Thanksgiving:
To all of our dedicated liturgical ministers—Ushers, Lectors,
Sacristans, Eucharisc Ministers, Greeters, Altar Servers,
Choir Members, Decoraon Commi/ee … without your
willingness to serve, our celebraon of the Eucharist would
be incomplete and void of its’ beauty.
To all the members of our Parish Council; Finance, School Advi-
sory, Chrisan Service, Youth Ministry and School PTG Com-
mi/ee’s; Boosters, Chrisan Women, Knights of Columbus,
Intercessory Prayer Group and the countless other parish
and school organizaons…without your meless energy
and care for the temporal and spiritual needs of the parish,
we would struggle to provide the ministry we offer to our
people.
To the Funeral Luncheon Commi/ee, Funeral Ministers, Home-
bound Communion Visitors, Morning School Greeters,
Money Counters, Wedding Coordinators, Catechists, Reli-
gious Educaon personnel, RCIA leaders, Confirmaon
Mentors, and Chrisan Service coordinators….you provide
an example for all to follow as you volunteer your me and
talent to serve the ‘other’.
To our hard working parish and school employees…over 100
strong…simply put, your ministry is not just appreciated,
but integral to the success of creang ‘joy-filled missionary
disciples’ to/for our parish/schools, and her many minis-
tries.
To all our parishioners, to all the volunteers and supporters of
our parish and schools, may you always know the gratude
of this Pastor, this Parish, and most especially, your loving
God.
For all the above, and all that I may have failed to menon, I give
thanks!
A Thanksgiving Prayer Thank you, Lord, for bringing together our family and friends for this
special day.
Through this day of Thanksgiving we present ourselves before you in
gratude, and we are especially aware and grateful, for what you have
provided for us this past year.
We are blessed, each in different ways, and because of this, are ever
more aenve to your presence in our lives. Lord, we are grateful for the
food, drink, relaonships and conversaon before us this day.
When so many people are suffering, or without someone in which to
share their love, you place before us a bounty of grace upon grace.
We are blessed by the realizaon that you have connected each of our
lives in ways that can honor you.
We give praise and thanks to you Lord for all you have sacrificed for us
through the passion, death and resurrecon of your son, our savior, Jesus
Christ.
Help us to be ever grateful for your forgiveness when we fail to live as
we should.
We are grateful for your guidance when we need help finding the right
path. You are always there to welcome us home, to give us comfort, to
shower us with your love.
Our Thanksgiving is complete, when it includes not just food for the
day, but faith for a lifeme. Amen.
Football Predicons U of M 37 – Indiana 17 (another easy contest for the surging Wolverines)
MSU 27 – Nebraska 17 (if Sparty can’t beat the lackluster Cornhuskers,
we’ll have to rename them Lions)
Notre Dame 30 – Syracuse 27 (a late season test for the Irish…but one they
will pass)
Panthers 28 – Lions 21 (don’t know what to say, but it appears to be, once
again, same old Lions)
Quote for the week “If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘thank you,’
that would suffice.” - Fr. Meister Eckhart, OP

The Parish Office will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, for Thanksgiving and reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26.

The Acts of the Apostles: The Acts of the Apostles: The Acts of the Apostles: The Acts of the Apostles:
The Spread of the KingdomThe Spread of the KingdomThe Spread of the KingdomThe Spread of the Kingdom
Tuesdays Dec. 11 -Jan. 8, Feb. 12, March 12, April 2 and May 14
7 to 8:30 p.m. in Holy Family Hall
The Acts of the Apostles is a story of hope.
It’s a story of how a few Chrisans empowered by the Holy Spirit were chosen
to bring Christ and the Good News to the ends of the earth.
They taught as Christ did.
They performed miracles as he did. Some even gave their lives for him.
They faced secular forces, internal strife, hosle crowds,
yet, despite all of this,
they brought the kingdom of God to a broken world
and the love of God to the hearts of men.
Acts will enrich your faith and rekindle your love for Christ as you live the lives of the
first disciples.
Cabrini parish really knows how
to Unleash the Gospel
WOW! Who says pennies don’t add up? Cabrini Parish – you raised more than $2,500 for the recent Crisis Pregnancy Center Bottle Drive. Your participation in this fundraiser will help us provide free pregnancy tests and counseling as well as material needs and education pro-grams. Christmas is coming and the needs of our clients and their infants and children are many. Your charitable act of mercy brings the message of the Gospel to life today, and we thank you. Your generosity is a wonderful exam-ple of Jesus loving the little children. If you would like to visit our office to see firsthand how your donations sup-port the services we offer, to sign up to volunteer or join our mail prayer list, call Sandy at (313)386-4005. If you still have a baby bottle, filled or
empty, please drop it off at the Parish
Office.

For Christian stewards,
Thanksgiving is a good
time to reflect on our
many blessings. In the
Archdiocese of Detroit, our community of
faith has much to be thankful for, especially
the programs, services, and ministries funded
by the Catholic Services Appeal.
Your gifts to the CSA touch the lives of thou-
sands of Catholics each day through the good
work of the Central Services departments of
Communications; Development and Steward-
ship; Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools;
and Parish Life and Services.
Whether we are evangelizing, teaching,
enhancing our sacramental life, or bringing
comfort to those less fortunate, we have
much to be grateful for in this season of
Thanksgiving. If you have yet to donate to this
year’s Catholic Services Appeal, please prayer-
fully consider your blessings and make the
most generous gift possible. For information
about CSA-funded ministries, programs and
services, go to www.AOD.org.

Chrisan Women planning annual Christmas Party The Christmas party is Thursday, Dec.6 from 6 to 10 p.m. in Holy
Family Hall. Dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m. and the Dulcimers
will provide entertainment at 7:15 p.m. We are sll finalizing the
menu, but it will be another extremely delicious meal we have
come to enjoy!
In addion to dinner and entertainment, we’ll have door prizes
and giN baskets, centerpieces, fruit baskets and giN cards. All this
for an enjoyable evening with fellow parishioners, family and
friends.
A goodwill collecon will be taken for our Cabrini Chapter of
St. Vincent DePaul to help fellow parishioners in need.
Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased from Nancy Trela,
313-575-2971, or Gaye Olah, 313-382-0210. Tickets are advance
sale only by Monday, Dec. 3; no ckets will be available at the
door.
Trees are up -
Take a tag!
Seven trees are in the Narthex for our annual Advent outreach to programs and agencies caring for
the needs of infants, children, adults and veterans. There are still tags for the taking. Items represent the Wish Lists of each agen-cy.
♦ Families who reach out to the parish for assistance ♦ Crisis Pregnancy Center in Lincoln Park ♦ Penrickton Center for Blind Children in Taylor ♦ Veteran’s Hospital, Detroit ♦ Core City Neighborhood, Detroit
♦ Most Holy Trinity Parish, Detroit ♦ St. Christine Parish, Detroit Choose one or more items and place your ‘gifts’ back under the same tree (tags and trees are color-coded to make sure we match gifts and agencies) by Dec. 10. Also, keep items in their original packaging, but do not gift wrap. Thank you for your kindness and compassion as we support the efforts of these organizations that care for individuals and families throughout the year.
Advent Prayer and Potluck “May it be done unto me according to your word” (Lk 1:38)
Sunday, Dec. 2 4:30 to 8 p.m. Holy Family Hall
The evening will begin with prayerful reflecon guided by
PaT Chase, a Regional Coordinator in the Archdiocese of De-
troit Office of Catechesis and teacher at Sacred Heart Major
Seminary. Joining her will be our youth and Praise and Worship
Choir to lead us into the beauful season of Advent! Dinner will
follow the reflecon and we’ll a/end the 7 p.m. Mass.
Individuals and families are invited to host a table of 6-8 peo-
ple. Hosts invite guests, decorate their tables, providing plates
and cups, and bring a side dish or dessert to serve 10-12 peo-
ple. Decoraons don’t have to be fancy – paper products are
just as fesve as fine china. Hosts are welcome to include a
candle in their centerpiece – in past years; several hosts have
brought their Advent Wreath. The main course, drinks and
utensils will be provided.
To reserve a table or a seat, contact Therese Tardiff
at 313-381-5601, Ext. 1051 or [email protected]

33nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
With Thanksgiving fast approaching, we
would like to express our deepest gratitude for your continued sup-
port for the work of our St. Vincent de Paul Conference here at St.
Frances Cabrini. The real “thanks” comes directly from our neigh-
bors in need who are grateful for your compassionate hearts.
You have been a source of great hope to so many in our commu-
nity. Steady, generous financial support is truly a blessing.
Yet our needs remain high. So as you reflect on your blessings,
large and small, we are appealing to your generosity again to reach
out with your Thanksgiving Day offering to help those in our com-
munity who are hurting.
This Thanksgiving, your donation will ensure that this is bountiful
for everyone … especially those in dire need.
When you help a person or family in need, the goodwill you
share comes back to YOU. When you gather with family or friends
this Thanksgiving, your own day will be richer and more joyous be-
cause you cared enough to reach out to help someone in our com-
munity. You recognized a need … and you responded.
On behalf of those we serve … God bless you for your generous
heart.
Happy Thanksgiving!

In the Narthex is our Book of Remembrance, which holds the names of those who have gone before us. Please write the names of your loved ones so that we may include them in our prayers. On Nov. 2, we held our annual Mass of Remembrance for parishioners who were buried from St. Frances Cabrini. Continue to pray for our de-ceased and their families, walking with them through the valley of grief as they mourn the loss of their loved ones.
