Dear Parishioners:

When George Bush Sr. was president, he was doing his public relations thing by visiting a nursing home. He came upon an old man hobbling down the corridor. The president took the man by the hand and said, “Sir, do you know who I am?” The man re-plied, “No, but if you ask one of the nurses, she’ll tell you.”

Today we celebrate the Feast of Cor-pus Christi. Besides being the familiar name of a city in Texas, it may conjure up a time in the past when there was Eucharistic adora-tion and processions through the streets with our Lord in a monstrance. Thanks to Fr. Francisco that beautiful tradition was revived in our parish five years ago. I believe it had fallen by the wayside not just because of our increasingly secular society but also because we had forgotten its true meaning. More and more, emphasis was placed on the “real pres-ence” of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and less and less on His “real presence” in us, His mystical body in the world. When we lose sight of Jesus’s presence in either of its two real dimensions (in the Eucharist and in us), love for him in the Blessed Sacrament and in our neighbor is diminished and communion is not achieved.

Hence, Corpus Christi is both a pro-found mystery of love and a mission to be accomplished in the Church throughout the world. It is my deepest wish that we become more and more what we receive, the Body of Christ. I pray that you will be able to join us this weekend as we take Jesus from our church to our small corner of the world. “Oh Sacrament most holy, Oh Sacrament Divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every mo-ment thine!”

Estimados Feligreses:

Cuando George Bush padre era presidente, estaba promoviendo las relaciones públicas al vi-sitar un hogar de ancianos. Se encontró con un anciano cojeando por el pasillo. El Presidente le cogió al hombre de la mano y dijo: "Señor, ¿sabe usted quién soy yo?" El hombre respondió: "No, pero si le preguntas a una de las enfermeras, ella te lo dirá."

Hoy se celebra la Fiesta del Cuerpo de Cristo. Además de ser el nombre de una ciudad en Texas, puede evocar un tiempo en el pasado cuan-do había adoración eucarística y procesiones por las calles con nuestro Señor en una custodia. Gra-cias al Padre Francisco, hace cinco años que esta hermosa tradición fue restablecida en nuestra pa-rroquia. Creo que había quedado en el camino no sólo debido a nuestra sociedad cada vez más secu-lar, sino también porque se había olvidado su ver-dadero significado. Cada vez más, el énfasis, se ha colocado en la "presencia real" de Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento y cada vez menos en su "presencia real" en nosotros, su cuerpo místico en el mundo. Cuando se pierde de vista la presencia de Jesús en cualquiera de sus dos dimensiones reales (en la Eucaristía y en los seres humanos), el amor por Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento y el amor por él en nuestro vecino se disminuyen y no se logra la comunión.

Por lo tanto, la fiesta del Cuerpo y la San-gre de Cristo es tanto un profundo misterio del amor como una misión para llevar a cabo la mi-sión de la Iglesia en el mundo. Es mi más profun-do deseo de que nos volvamos más y más lo que recibimos, el Cuerpo de Cristo. Mi oración es que ustedes podrán acompañarnos este fin de semana cuando llevemos a Jesús desde nuestra iglesia hasta nuestro pequeño rincón del mundo. "Oh Santísimo Sacramento, oh divino Sacramento, que toda alabanza y toda acción de gracias sean en cada momento tuyas!"

Would you ever consider at-tending a formal dinner or a wedding dressed in a tee shirt and shorts, or a tank top and swim-ming trunks? Each Sunday the Lord invites us to His House. Are you dressed properly for this important Sacred Sacrificial Meal? ¿CÓMO DEBEMOS VESTIR PARA LA MI-SA? Del santo Evangelio según san Marcos 14, 12-16. 22-26 El primer día de los Azimos, cuando se sacrificaba el cordero pas-

cual, le dicen sus discípulos: «¿Dónde quieres que vayamos a hacer los preparativos para que comas el cordero de Pascua?» Entonces, envía a dos de sus discípulos y les dice: «Id a la ciudad; os saldrá al

encuentro un hombre llevando un cántaro de agua; seguidle y allí donde entre, decid al dueño de la casa: El Maestro dice: ¿Dónde

está mi sala, donde pueda comer la Pascua con mis discípulos? El os enseñará en el piso superior una sala grande, ya dispuesta y prepa-rada; haced allí los preparativos para nosotros.» Los discípulos sa-

lieron, llegaron a la ciudad, lo encontraron tal como les había dicho, y prepararon la Pascua. Y mientras estaban comiendo, tomó pan, lo bendijo, lo partió y se lo dio y dijo: «Tomad, este es mi cuerpo.» To-mó luego una copa y, dadas las gracias, se la dio, y bebieron todos

Meditación del Papa Francisco

En la fiesta del Corpus Christi celebramos a Jesús "pan vivo que ha bajado del cielo", alimento para nuestra hambre de vida eterna, fuer-za para nuestro camino. Doy gracias al Señor que hoy me concede

celebrar el Corpus Christi con ustedes, hermanos y hermanas de esta Iglesia.

La fiesta de hoy es la fiesta en la que la Iglesia alaba al Señor por el don de la Eucaristía. Mientras que el Jueves Santo hacemos memoria de su institución en la última Cena, hoy predomina la acción de gra-cias y la adoración. Y, en efecto, es tradicional en este día la proce-

sión con el Santísimo Sacramento. Adorar a Jesús Eucaristía y cami-nar con Él. Estos son los dos aspectos inseparables de la fiesta de

hoy, dos aspectos que dan la impronta a toda la vida del pueblo cris-tiano: un pueblo que adora a Dios y un pueblo que camina: ¡que no

está quieto, camina! Ante todo, nosotros somos un pueblo que adora a Dios. Adoramos a Dios que es amor, que en Jesucristo se entregó a sí mismo por noso-tros, se entregó en la cruz para expiar nuestros pecados y por el poder de este amor resucitó de la muerte y vive en su Iglesia.
