TWELFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
Month of Compassion
Lord Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life,
you call us to be forgiving and kind:
Strengthen us by your grace,
that in communion with you,
that we may forgive one another
and live in love as you love us;
for you live and reign with the Father
and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
“Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:31-32 (The Message)
THE PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH
PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH
We pray for Church of the Province of South East Asia The Most Revd Ng Moon Hing Archbishop of South East Asia and Bishop of West Malaysia We pray for Steve our Bishop and our Diocese; for Thabo our Metropolitan and the Anglican Church of Southern Africa; for Justin of Canterbury and the Anglican Communion.
PRAYER FOR THE WORLD
In this month of compassion, we ask The Holy Spirit to infuse our hearts with real compassion. Jesus showed us that God feels with those who suffer, and not just for them. Help us this week to feel the pain and despair of all the women in South Africa subjected to violence from men. Help us also to feel with those Zimbabweans who are shocked and angry at the outcome of the elections there. We ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.

THE WORK OF THE CHURCH
LIVING COMPASSIONATE LIVES
So much of Jesus' life is about healing: teaching and healing and showing people another way anchored in the love and action of God. How do we place this understanding at our centre, so it becomes the life we lead and share each day? Over the next four weeks we look what it is to live compassion, embrace healing and honour Holy becoming.
Practical compassion: The Power of Listening
In August we encourage you to examine how compassion can be lived out actively each day This week we focus on listening...really pay attention when people speak. Listen. Seek to understand rather than to answer too quickly. Often, we formulate our answers before we have heard. Compassion rests in really hearing each other and knowing we are understood. Sometimes listening and acknowledging we have heard is compassion in action. It is also empowering. Think of Jesus and the woman caught in adultery.

ECO QUOTE: The more we learn of the true nature of non-human animals, especially those with complex brains and corresponding complex social behavior, the more ethical concerns are raised regarding their use in the service of man — whether this be in entertainment, as "pets," for food, in research laboratories, or any of the other uses to which we subject them. – Jane Goodall
