Dear Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school, When Mrs Whitehead told me the newsletter was going to be eleven pages long this week6 I was amazed! So much is going on in our busy school. Well done to all those who put their best effort into the cross country6 even if you did not win a medal, giving your best makes you a winner. The seniors are looking forward to presenting their show “Robin and His Sherwood Hoodies” in week 10, and the middle school have just about got rid of all the mud from their knees after the Rippa day last week! Don't forget to take time out to pray6 even if your prayer is just "Thank you." As Mary MacKillop said, "We have much for which to be thankful." • RELIGIOUS EDUCATIONThis Sunday’s Readings:

    Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8; James 1:17-18, 21-22, 27: Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23Thought For The Day:

“You should never let adversity get you down, except on your knees” James 5:13 “Are any of you suffering? They should pray”.

*Father’s Day LiturgyOur Father’s Day Liturgy is tomorrow, Friday, 31st August at 1:30 pm in the church. Dads, come along and celebrate with us.

*Daffodil Day-Mufti DayThe Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day is tomorrow, Friday, 31st August. The children can wear mufti to school. Your gold coin donation will be donated to the Cancer Society.

*Coin Trail for India flood victimsDue to severe flooding in India’s Southwestern State of Kerala, over 300 people have died and hundreds of thousands of people are taking shelter in relief camps. Many of these people are relatives of families in our school and parish community. We will be holding a coin trail on Tuesday 11th September. Your donation will be sent to Caritas, who are running a Caritas India Solidarity Fund.

*At the moment our focus in Religious Education is on the God StrandY1 focus is on God is Creator - God is the Creator of all that is ‘seen and unseen.’ Each person is God’s unique creation made in love for love. We are part of what God made and ‘saw that it was good.’ We are called to respect our dignity-tapu as persons made in God’s image, the dignity of others and value all parts of creation. We are scared and Holy because we share in the Tapu of God. We are also called to respond with praise and worship of God.

Y2 focus is Our Gracious God - God is gracious – a great giver of gifts. The greatest of these gifts of love is Jesus who revealed that God is Abba- his loving Father- Matua, who is also our Father. Our response to God’s gift of grace is to truly appreciate them and to live lives of gratitude.

Y3&4 focus is God is Love - The Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is a loving community of three persons who are one God. One of God’s great gifts or taonga is the natural world of creation, which we should respect because it is tapu. Another of God’s gifts of love is the Ten Commandments.

Y5&6 focus is Who is God? - The names and images for God in the Old Testament tell us something about what God is like. Christians come to know God through Jesus and respond in faith through worship and action. Catholic beliefs about God have been summarised in the Creeds.

*Family massOur next Family Mass is on Sunday, 23rd September at 10:00am Kowhai Whanau (Rooms 9, 10, 11 and 12 will be participating). The invitation is for as many families as possible, to come and celebrate with Kowhai Whanau at Mass. Even if your children do not belong to the whanau that is helping with the Mass please come along and support our whanau. We are all part of one family.

    Children’s Safety

It is important that we are able to contact you or the other emergency contacts listed for your child. There

may be a medical emergency or we may need to contact

you to clarify pick up details. We ask that you please

update your contact details when you change

house or have a new phone number.

You need to contact the school office, if someone is

coming to pick up your child who is not on the contact list.

As you know, an early exit pass must be collected from

the office before you collect a student from class. This is for the safety of all our children, the classroom teachers will

not release your child without one of these passes.

customers are welcome. Forms must be completed by the legal parent/guardian of the

    applicant.

School AccountsThank you to those who have paid children's school attendance dues and donations. Attendance dues are compulsory and a condition of enrolment at our school. Although these are paid to the school the money is forwarded to the Diocese for the payment of property maintenance, capital works etc.If the attendance dues are not paid we are required to send the details to the Catholic Diocese and they will follow-up amounts outstanding through a debt agency called Debtworks. To avoid this I have been making contact with families to avoid this situation. If you need to make a financial arrangement, please come and see me but the year is progressing steadily and an arrangement may be too late. Alternatively, financial assistance is available through the Catholic Diocese of Auckland Website : www.aucklandcatholic.org.nz/Attendance Dues and Special Character Contributions.

Wow! Last Thursday was an amazing Rippa Rugby day for our Year 3 and 4 classes, challenging Whangarei Primary on Kensington Park fields. We had a day of great sportsmanship, participation and friendship.A HUGE thank you to all of our wonderful parents who supported, set up, joined in the games and withstood the rain, mud and sunshine! Enormous thanks to our group of senior students who stepped up as referees. You were all awesome.
