THE THIRD SUNDAY
OF ADVENT The third Sunday of Advent is
traditionally called Gaudete
Sunday. Gaudete is the Latin
word meaning “rejoice.” This
Sunday, on the Advent wreath
we light the pink candle instead of a purple candle.
This Sunday is a joyful reminder that our salvation is
near.
In today's Gospel, John sends word to Jesus
from prison, asking Jesus, “Are you the one who is to
come, or should we look for another?” Jesus responds
by pointing to the miracles that he has worked and
invites John and the other hearers to make their own
determination. In his next breath, however, Jesus
praises John for his role in preparing the way for Je-
sus. Then Jesus says that all of those who work for
the Kingdom of God will be as great as John and
even greater.
John’s disciples approach Jesus with one of
the quintessential questions of life: “Is this it?” How
are we supposed to know when we have arrived when
we don’t know the signposts for where we’re going?
Jesus gives them to us. The kingdom is in our midst.
The kingdom that Jesus proclaims in word and deed.
He invites us in, to clothe the naked, feed the hungry,
take care of our neighbors, and to love others without
expectation. As we journey toward Christmas, let us
rededicate ourselves to incarnating the life of Jesus
and the kingdom of God in our words and actions. (Excerpts from Living Liturgy 2020)
INFANT JESUS SHOWER The Infant Jesus Shower Committee and St.
Vincent DePaul Society would like to thank everyone
who participated in any way to the Infant Jesus Show-
er. Through your generosity 178 children in 73 fami-
lies were given new toys and clothes this year! May
the love and caring you have shown to all of these
families help to make your Christmas blessed. It is
wonderful to see that the true meaning of Christmas is
alive and well at St. Helen.

THANK YOU FROM ST. HELEN PTO
The PTO would like to thank everyone who helped make the Christmas Bazaar a huge success. We are
very grateful for the parishioners, teachers and school families that donated baked goods, handmade crafts, raffle
items and volunteered their time on Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday. We also appreciate everyone that
came to the bazaar to support the local vendors, visit Santa, shop in the Tyke Shop and eat lunch. So many mem-
bers of the parish and school families, both those who have been around for many years, and those who are brand
new to our school, pitched in to make the event a huge success. You are all a blessing! Thank you. We would also like to thank the school’s Spirit and Joy Club for their leadership in running the Tyke Shop. It is a joy to watch the stu-
dents run the Tyke Shop while learning the value of serving others. The PTO would like to give an extra thank you to the St. Helen Boy
Scouts for helping with tear down and clean up. With the scout’s help clean up was quick and efficient. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE RAFFLE WINNERS
We look forward to seeing you at the 2020 Christmas Bazaar.
Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, December 5, 2020.
