STEWARDSHIP WORDS OF WISDOM PALABRAS DE SABIDURIA

In today’s second reading, Saint Paul bids us to take comfort in knowing that when God invites us to pray to him, he knows our true needs, even if we do not. The Holy Spirit intercedes any prays for us even if we can’t come up with appropriate words; even when we don’t have a clue what to ask for. We are not left alone. Good stewards know that prayer is an important part of living a life in Christ. The important thing is to make space for God. Do we let God into our hearts? Do we make room for the Holy Spirit to pray within us?

INTERCESSIONS FOR LIFE

For the families:

That the Love of God may fruitfully grow in them;

We pray to the Lord.

No estamos solos.

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME / DECIMO SEXTO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

108

Let me start by saying this: it’s great to be a new priest! And furthermore, I am exceptionally grateful to Archbishop Gregory for assigning me to St. Theresa’s for these few months before I head back to Rome to continue my advanced degrees. As you know, St. Theresa is my home parish, and I am the first home-grown priest our parish has produced. Thanks be to God, I will not be the last—not with Deacon Mark Starr right behind me. But we need so many more.

I wonder how many other young men in the parish are thinking about priesthood? Over and over again, we hear from seminarians that the greatest influences on their vocation are a solid family life, regular attendance at Mass, and availing themselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You might be surprised to know that the same things are also indicators of young men and women who will be healthy and happily married adults, if this is the plan God has for them in their lives.

It’s great to be home! But I’ve been wondering: where is everybody? The weekend of my First Mass was Father’s Day, so I figured that everyone was out of town and attending Mass somewhere else. But last weekend, we only had about 2/3 the number of parishioners we normally do. This seems to be a trend in the summer. I’d like to think that everyone is on vacation, but unless we have 500 or so people that vacation for the entire summer, I don’t think that’s what is going on!

I’d love to see you while I am here! Come and watch the new priest make all of his new priest mistakes! Keep coming to Mass and to Confession during the summer. Do your best to stay engaged with God—he is certainly always engaged with you. And if the sacramental life is the single greatest indicator of happy marriages and happy priests, then skipping here and there is not the best idea: you may be setting your kids up for struggles later in life when it turns out their faith is not what it should be.

I hope to see you soon!

Fr. Joshua Allen, Parochial Vicar.

Espero verlos pronto!

Padre Joshua Allen, Vicario Parroquial.

JULY 17/17 DE JULIO, 2011

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS/CIRCULO DE AMIGOS

The ministry of Circle of Friends provides meals and fellowship for bereaved families and the sick. Stewards are asked to furnish various parts of a meal to be served to family and friends following a funeral Mass. They may also be asked to provide portions of a meal for sick parishioners.

Meals may be served for the family at the home or the parish hall. Stewards are requested to take their food items to the sight of the meal.

Either a co-chairman or team leader will contact stewards regarding the meal preparation needs, event time and location. The time commitment for this stewardship varies dependent upon parishioner’s needs or request. Due to the nature of the situation, there may be minimal time for food preparation for the event. There is no required background check for this ministry.

Stewards are also needed for sight preparation and clean-up when meals are provided at the Parish Hall.

For further information please contact the co-chairmen:

Sue Kauffman (770)489-1272

Julie Zalesky (770)942-6820

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME / DECIMO SEXTO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

Our second collection today is for the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. Throughout the archdiocese, the Society ministers to people living in extreme hardship. When we give our gifts today we are helping directly to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and clothe the poorest of the poor here in our Archdiocese. Let us pray for the Society and support its ministries among us with generous contributions.
