Our parish will, from October this year, offer opportunities for Masses to be celebrated in homes as a way of making the Eucharist a more intimate reality in families. This is neither new to this parish nor in Scripture. Indeed, while the early Christians "remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles," (Acts 2:42), they went as a body to the temple everyday but met in their houses for the breaking of bread; shared their food gladly and generously; praised God and were looked up to by everyone" (Acts 2:46). The breaking of bread is the celebration of the Eucharist and fits the family setting, which is the domestic church. This practice allows families to host the celebration and be part of its preparation. They would prepare an altar and provide a crucifix, holy water, candles, and, if possible, the readings. They don't have to cook any meals, (teas and coffees welcome), but can gladly open their doors to others who would love to join in the Mass. The Masses will happen in place of Tuesday Masses beginning in October. A list of dates will be sent out shortly and parishioners are welcome to indicate which dates they wish to host, so that the whole parish can be informed of the venue. Home Masses would give the opportunity for others who would otherwise not make their way to church to taste of the Eucharistic celebration. In that sense, it is the church going out, a form of outreach. It is our hope that many would sign up to host such Masses, and that attendance would be good. 14th August 2016 ~ OUR LADY OF ASSUMPTION, 21st and 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time Issue:1138 READING PASTORAL AREA St. John Bosco Church 56 Western Avenue, Woodley, Reading RG5 3BH Tel: 0118 969 3423 Priest: Fr Bonaventure Ndong Email: stjohnbosco @portsmouthdiocese.org.uk Website: stjohnbosco.co.uk Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ groups/1455918784702101/ Part of the PORTSMOUTH DIOCESAN TRUST Registered Charity Number 246871 Administrator: Karen Tarvin Church Office is open next week: Tues -Fri 8.30am - 1.30pm WEEKLY COLLECTION Envelopes £223.65 Loose £326.42 Standing orders: £510 Thank you for your generous contributions. Our parish will, from October this year, offer opportunities for Masses to be

celebrated in homes as a way of making the Eucharist a more intimate

reality in families. This is neither new to this parish nor in Scripture. Indeed,

while the early Christians "remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles,"

(Acts 2:42), they went as a body to the temple everyday but met in their

houses for the breaking of bread; shared their food gladly and generously;

praised God and were looked up to by everyone" (Acts 2:46). The breaking of

bread is the celebration of the Eucharist and fits the family setting, which is the

domestic church. This practice allows families to host the celebration and be

part of its preparation. They would prepare an altar and provide a crucifix, holy

water, candles, and, if possible, the readings. They don't have to cook any meals,

(teas and coffees welcome), but can gladly open their doors to others who would

love to join in the Mass. The Masses will happen in place of Tuesday Masses

beginning in October. A list of dates will be sent out shortly and parishioners

are welcome to indicate which dates they wish to host, so that the whole parish

can be informed of the venue. Home Masses would give the opportunity for

others who would otherwise not make their way to church to taste of the

Eucharistic celebration. In that

sense, it is the church going out,

a form of outreach. It is our

hope that many would sign up to

host such Masses, and that

attendance would be good.
