When, for any reason, we cannot participate in Mass, the Church invites us to unite with Christ through this prayer of Spiritual Communion. Praying this prayer is a beautiful way to

unite our hearts to Christ's when we cannot receive him physically in the Eucharist.

St. Vincent de Paul & Butler Food Bank

The food bank is stocked and anyone in need is encouraged to accept this assistance. The pickup is a no contact drive up system and no paperwork is required. The Food Bank is located at 146 North Monroe Street in Butler and is open from 8-10 AM, Monday thru Friday. Many thanks to all who make this giving possible with their donations and hard work. Our community is very blessed to have St. Vincent de Paul.

A reminder ...to mail in or drop off your “Name the New Parish in our Grouping” form. There’s still time and we need your feedback. Forms were included in the all parish mailing which you should have received. Forms can also be found on the joint website:

Live Streaming Continues Go to: stsjjmcatholic.org to find the live streaming link that will take you to the St. Joseph YouTube channel. Or you

can go directly to St. JJM Cabot and it will take you to the YouTube channel. The Ascension Thursday Mass will be live streamed on May 21 at 10 AM.

We invite you to tune in and worship with us.

E xpect A Call! Over the next month or however long it takes, we will be updating the information in our census program.

That means, the addresses, phone numbers, emails, who lives at the address, time and talents, etc. Someone from each

parish office will be in touch with you. The call should take no longer than 3-4 minutes or so. Please be receptive. This will

be helpful when our merger takes place and we combine the three census databases. There’s much to be done and this is just one

step in that direction.

Thanks to those we have already talked with. You have been so receptive and cooperative. We are finding though that many

phone numbers are not reachable. More than likely due to families using their cell phones and not their land lines any longer. As

you can see, this is quite an involved process. But we will be successful with your help!

Thank you for the Emails. Keep them coming!

Prayer for First Communicants

Lord Jesus,

Bless the children coming forward to

receive Holy Communion

for the first time.

May this day be an initial step into a

life- long love of the Eucharist.

Give them a hunger for this sacred food

so that they turn to You for comfort,

guidance, and wisdom

as they grow in full discipleship.

Thank you for their

innocence and goodness.

May they grow in

Christian maturity and,

by the power of the

Holy Spirit, become

Christ’s witnesses in the

world,

spreading and defending

the faith.

Amen.

Prayer for Confirmation Candidates

Holy Trinity,

guide and protect the candidates

as they prepare to celebrate the

Sacrament of Confirmation.

Help them to discern

God’s will in their life and fill them

with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit

wisdom,

knowledge,

right judgment,

courage,

understanding,

reverence,

wonder

and awe,

to empower them to serve God

as a true disciple through

Your grace and in Your love.

Amen.

Feeling the financial crunch these days?

Finding it difficult to make ends meet?

Want to come in and just sit and talk?

Mother’s Day Portraits I came across a “portrait” that my daughter drew of me when she was in first grade. Those portraits were always so special to receive, particularly on Mother’s Day. At that time I’m sure I thought how sweet or how cute the image was. When I look at it years later, I try hard to find some resemblance to me. Wow! I had one eye bigger that the other, my nose was not in the center of my face, I had a unibrow and for some reason, I was absent a neck. I thought about my own mom and realized that I had never drawn a picture of her when I was in school. I attempted to mentally capture her. I recalled photographs of my First Communion. Mom and I were standing in front of our house. She was thin, had shoulder-length hair and always wore pearls when she dressed up. She was pretty. In search of more photos of Mom I went to the family photo box. It held not only family photos but each and every card that was ever sent to Mom. Laughter erupted as I stumbled upon a Mother’s Day card sent to Mom by Matilda, my cousin from Chicago. Matilda had stayed with us over one summer. She thought Mom was the coolest or should I say the “hippest.” She drew a picture of Mom on the inside of the card. It pictured Mom sitting in our 1957 green Ford. She drew Mom with lots and lots of pearl necklaces. She also drew a hankie in her jacket pocket and a cigarette in her hand with smoke curling over the inside, front, and back of the card. That was my Mom? I laughed to tears. That whole experience stirred me to investigate a bit further how kids picture their moms. I went to Mr. Rogers Neighborhood at Pittsburgh Mills. With clipboard in hand I approached some of the parents and asked if I could interview their child for an article in our parish newsletter. They seemed honored and at the same time a bit nervous as to what their child would say. The kids shared one special thing about “mom.”

Stella: My mom bakes me cupcakes with sprickles. Maddey: My mom smells good when she hugs me. Lance: My mom is pretty but has kinda horse teeth.

Alyssa: My mom cooks good chicken nuggets almost as good as McDonald’s but not-so-good meatloaf. Case: My mom buys lots of shoes. She got real good toes.

Pierce: My mom wants to be a princess. I hope she gets to do it some day when we all get growed up.

How do your kids picture you? Go ahead, go to your family photo box and find one of those special portraits. Display it proudly. Guaranteed, it will be the best Mother’s Day present you could ever have. To all the moms out there with one eye bigger than the other, a misplaced nose and no neck to hang pearls on, I say, “Happy Mother’s Day.” You are beautiful!

1-800-Call-God Do you talk to God? I do (a lot). In fact, I involve God in all that concerns me. Rather than just praying to God, I like to give God the chance to engage in my conversation. I know he listens but sometimes his answers don’t come as quickly or as clearly as I would like. I’ve found that Patience is necessary and Trust is required. Everyone needs to chat with God at one time or another. Even our little people find themselves asking God for answers to “How come Daddy doesn’t live with us anymore” or the less serious “Why can’t we get a monkey?” Teens have their growing pain questions and the elderly want to know why their bodies and their minds just don’t work the way that they used to. Famed Country singer Garth Brooks appeared on Good Morning America some time ago. He told Robin Roberts in an interview that he was a “Mama’s Boy” and that he loved and missed his mother very much. Garth’s mom lost the battle to cancer in 1999. He said that his mom displayed dignity and honor when going through her treatments. He pays tribute to her through his singing. He was bold in his words that his mom is responsible for any good that is in him. He then captivated the audience with his new song “Mom.” Garth said that he is honored to bring our “Creator” and his “music” together. He described “Mom” as a conversation between God and an unborn baby who’s about to go to earth. This beautiful collection of words set to music is an outstanding tribute to his Mom and to all moms. It goes a bit like this- “A little baby told God, ‘Hey I’m kinda scared. I don’t really know if I wanna go down there. From here it looks like a little blue ball, but that’s a great big place and I’m so small. Why can’t I just stay here with you? Did I make you mad, don’t you want me, too?” And God said, “Oh child, of course I do, but there’s somebody special down there just waiting for you. Their only goal in life is making sure you’re gonna be alright—a loving angel, tender, tough and strong. Now, baby, when she’s talking to you, make sure you listen close. Cause she’s gonna teach you everything you’ll ever need to know– like how to mind your manners— to love and laugh and dream. She’ll put you on the path that will bring you back to me. So, little baby, don’t you cry. There’s someone special down there waiting just for you. Come on, child, it’s time to go. It’s time for you to meet your Mom.” There’s strength, tenderness and love in these words. That’s our God! He’s all those things and more. You can tell him or ask him anything. God’s line is always open 24-7; no busy signal; no batteries to charge and he’s always home. From the unborn to the elderly and everyone in between– talk to God. Give him a call. God doesn’t have Caller ID, but not to worry– he knows you, in fact he knew you even before you were born. He’s someone special waiting just for YOU! To hear this beautiful song– Google “Mom” by Garth Brooks” Happy Mothers Day to our Mothers, Living and Deceased. We Love You!

PRAYER FOR MOTHERS

Heavenly Father,

from the beginning you have chosen to entrust

the human person to mothers in a special way.

We thank and praise you for the gift of mothers;

for their tenderness, care, and compassion,

for their intuition and encouragement,

for commitment and sacrifice.

Bless all mothers this day.

Keep, strengthen, and refresh them

in your loving care.

May they be blessed by our open-hearted

love and gratitude.

Amen.
