Please call your Parish Office or email Jenn at [email protected] to add or remove names from the grouping prayer lists.

When, for any reason, we cannot participate in Mass, the Church invites us to unite with Christ

through this prayer of Spiritual Communion. Praying this prayer is a beautiful way to unite our

hearts to Christ's when we cannot receive him physically in the Eucharist.

As we welcome parishioners back to Masses, we

appreciate your patience and cooperation. The best way

for us to keep the number of attendees within the

guidelines is to have those who wish to attend a weekend

Mass sign up for that Mass. You can find the link to the

Sign Up Genius page on our grouping website,

stsjjmcatholic.org, or go directly to

https://www.signupgenius.com/

go/8050d4da9af29a7ff2-september

If you do not have online access, call your parish office

and we will sign you up. Please sign up for weekend

Masses by the Thursday prior if possible. We ask that you

comply with all of the posted guidelines. You will need to

sanitize your hands and wear a face mask. We ask that

you follow the seating and traffic flow patterns as

designated and directed by ushers and celebrants.

Remember there is no obligation to attend Mass. If you

are over 65, have underlying health concerns, or cannot

wear a mask, you are encouraged to stay at home for

your safety.

Back-to-School Prayer

God of all knowledge,

you knew us when we were still in our mother's womb.

You know our comings and our goings.

Grant us wisdom to act on the knowledge we have of you,

and humility to admit when we do not know what to do.

Bless our minds with the knowledge of you and how you sent your Son into the world to show us the way to you.

Bless all students who are preparing to go back to school.

Bless their teachers and aides that help them to learn.

In addition, give us who are parents the ability to be the first teachers in the faith we have received from our parents.

We ask all this through Christ our Lord and brother.

Amen.

Naming the New Parish You are invited to participate in the final phase of selecting a name for the new parish. We have received a response from Bishop Zubik regarding the 15 names we submitted for his initial review. We are to submit our five final names for the Bishop’s consideration from the eight names he returned. Please remember that Bishop Zubik makes the final decision about the new parish name. In making his selection, he must consider the submissions of all Groupings and the needs of the entire Diocese. Therefore, understand that the Bishop will select any one of the five submitted names. The timeline for all submissions is September 1 -13. Here are the ways to offer your recommendations:

A link is available on the Home Page of our website to enter your choices. This method is preferred if possible. Visit www.stsjjmcatholic.org and click on the “Survey” link.

The paper form which was mailed to you can be placed in the collection basket at Mass, dropped at any of the parish offices, or placed in the black lock box located outside each of the church offices. You may also email your preferences to you Parish Office.

This week’s Blessed Mother candle at St. John is

in Thanksgiving by the Yonoskos

Remember, O most gracious Virgin

Mary, that never was it known that

anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy

help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O

Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come;

before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O

Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my

petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen

St. Joseph Festival 2020 Drawing St. Joseph Festival donations are coming in and we

The drawing will take place on Sunday, September 13, after the 11 AM Mass.

Let’s Begin Again! Our world has become increasingly divided. How are we to make judgments and is it even okay to judge? How do we speak the truth in a world that no longer believes in truth? This 8-part study program gives us an im-portant key to respond effectively to the rela-

tivism of the world—a Catholic moral worldview. Learn how Catholic morality is all about love, how making a judg-ment is not judging a person’s soul, and how, in the words of Pope Francis, “relativism wounds people” and is “the spiritual poverty of our times.” Who Am I To Judge? was offered previously at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in the spring before we had to can-cel due to COVID-19. We are eager to meet again and grow in faith together. We will meet safely at St. Mary Church beginning Monday, September 14 in Marian Hall from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. Our study will conclude on November 2. If you have any questions or would like to register, contact Angie Robb at 724-352-3443 or [email protected].

of her husband David Kurowski. May David’s soul

and the souls of all of our faithful departed rest in peace.

have left us spools and spools of

The Blanket Ministry and next

year’s Basket Raffle will put them to good use.

We appreciate all your donations!

Streitman Bequest Several months ago we were informed that St. Joseph received a bequest from the estate of the late Francis Streitman. The Streit-man Family wanted to arrange for a memorial to both Francis and his wife Wanda that would enhance our compound. After much thought, the idea of a courtyard in their memory was decided. This will be a perfect place for parishioners to visit and share a bit of God’s creation. The Family agreed that this would please both Francis and Wanda. All of the construction for the courtyard, vari-ous benches, planters and such will be funded by the bequest, no parish monies will be used. This week the pavers should be in place and then the pergola will be constructed. When all is completed, we hope to invite the Streitman Family for Mass and some conver-sation in our own corner of God’s creation. We are so blessed to share in the generosity of so many.

The Ramp Rails at St. Joseph are in progress! Hang in there with us. A reminder, if you have business at the Office or need to speak with Karyn, call 724-352-2149 or use the back deck entrance to the office. We’re almost there! Thanks for your patience!

All 3 churches now have an online giving option for your convenience. Signing up is simple and secure. Visit our group website, stsjjmcatholic.org, under the About tab, choose Online Giving at (Location Name), and follow the link on that page. Of course offerings can still be sent in the mail or dropped off in the secure drop boxes located outside each office. Thank you all for continuing to give during these difficult times.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Pope St. John Paul’s encyclical, “The Gospel of Life” (Evangelium Vitae).

Recently, Pope Francis confirmed that now, “the message of Evangelium vitae is more relevant than before”.

It is a matter of acting on a cultural and educational level in order to transmit an attitude of solidarity, caring and welcome to future generations, knowing that the culture of life is not

the exclusive patrimony of Christians. It belongs to all those who, working to build fraternal relationships, recognise the value of each individual person, even when he or she is fragile and suffering.

St. John Paul's encyclical on the dignity of human life, he added, is "timelier than ever" not only in its defense of life but also in its call to pass on "an attitude of solidarity, care and acceptance" to future

generations. He then proclaimed, "Therefore, with St. John Paul II, I reaffirm with renewed conviction the appeal he addressed to everyone 25 years ago: 'Respect, defend, love and serve life, every life, every

human life! Only on this path will you find justice, development, freedom, peace and happiness!'"

Below is an excerpt to reflect on this week.

From the “Gospel of Life” #39.

Human life and death are thus in the hands of God, in his power: “In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind,” exclaims Job (12:10). “The

Lord brings to death and brings to life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up” (1 Sam 2:6). He alone can say: “It is I who bring both death and life” (Dt 32:39).

Greetings from St. Joseph Preschool! We hope this note finds you and your family well!

I’ve said it a million times, this year is

going to look a lot different, but we are

so grateful and so blessed to be able to

get back into the classroom! I am thrilled

to announce that Mrs. Alicia “Miss

Alicia” Bubash has joined our Preschool

staff as our aide and we couldn’t be

happier. She has made a huge impact already with helping

ready for this school year! Our four-year-old program is

currently at maximum capacity with all 10 seats spoken for and

their first day of Preschool is Wednesday, September 9! Our

three-year-old program will start on Thursday, September 10.

We have one seat remaining! If you know of anyone who has a

three-year old (as of September 1) that would love to join our

Preschool family, please let me know. It won’t last long!

Good luck to all of the students and teachers as they begin their

2020-2021 school year. No matter how we return to school, I

know we will all learn so much and have so much fun!
