Summer Announcement from

Fr. Arthur MacKay:

With the summer months soon upon us, there will be many parishioners attending Sunday church

services near their vacation cottages. As we may support other churches during this summertime, I ask our parishioners for continued support in daily

prayer and in the weekly donations, as St. Paul’s Church continues to depend on your generosity to

maintain and improve the buildings and grounds of St. Paul’s Parish. There are two ways to assist the parish during this time: please consider arranging an online contribution, or please utilize a Summer

“Make-up” envelope to cover the expenses incurred during the summer in Wellesley. During the month of August, a “Make-up” envelope will be available

in the gathering area of the Church and will be mailed to our parishioners to appeal for any missed

weekends in Wellesley during the summer.

COLLABORATIVE NEWS

“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be

demanded of the person entrusted with more.” (Luke 12:48)

This weekend (7/2 – 7/3) is the first

weekend of July.

As usual the Wellesley Food Pantry thanks the parishioners for their generosity and has

asked us to again collect canned fruit and laundry detergent. It is

particularly important to donate to the Wellesley Food Pantry during the summer

since one-third of those served by the Food Pantry are children who will not be

receiving free or subsidized lunches at school placing an added strain on family

budgets. Also, many of those who donate are away. Your donations may be left in the

bins at the front entrance of St. Paul church. "I wish not merely to be called

Christian, but also to be Christian." (St. Ignatius of Antioch)

COLLABORATIVE NEWS

We warmly welcome Fr. Jim to Wellesley!

Father Jim Laughlin was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Boston in 1991. He served as a parochial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Braintree and St. Eulalia Parish in Winchester

before becoming pastor of St. Ann Parish in Wayland in 2006. He is a canon lawyer and served as a judge of the Metropolitan Tribunal before his arrival in Wayland. In 2008, he became pastor of St. Zepherin Parish, serving Wayland and Natick, in addition to his role as pastor of St. Ann’s. On

January 1, 2011, the two parishes merged to form Good Shepherd Parish and Fr. Jim was appointed as its first pastor. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Theological Institute for the

New Evangelization at St. John Seminary. He has been active in prison ministry at MCI-Framingham since 1989. Fr. Jim has an A.B. degree from Dartmouth College (1985), where he majored in Russian Language and Literature. He also studied at Leningrad State University. He earned an M.Div. from St. John Seminary in Boston and a J.C.L. from the Pontifical Gregorian

University in Rome.

Gratitude for Fr. Arthur MacKay

The collaborative parishes of St. John and St. Paul extend a huge thank you to Fr.

Arthur MacKay for his leadership during the month of June. Fr. Arthur filled the

management role as Administrator of the collaborative entities in the interim period

between Fr. Sepe’s departure on May 31st and Fr. Laughlin’s start date of July 1st. Fr.

Arthur attended council meetings, managed staff, directed the Farewell Celebration for

Sr. Evelyn and guided St. John School through their end of year liturgical celebrations.

All of this work was done in addition to his regular duties as a priest within this

collaborative. Fr. Arthur handled the transition period so very efficiently and

effectively and we are most grateful for his presence within this community.
