Dear Folks,
Let everyone take a step back and catch a breath. For those of you who were informed it is going to be nice winter please consider new information sources. The cold is back and it is marginally dangerous. Marginally, you say? Like marginally pregnant or marginally dead? Let us all please be careful when the snow and ice arrives this weekend. Please do not slip and do not fall. And please
mind the little pets who need to go outside once in while. We don’t want to find any of God’s creatures frozen to the fire plugs out there. Hmm? But once again, I digress.
This Friday marks the annual Pro-Life March. The parish has three busses going… I hope. No telling what the storm may bring. Oh the march will go on in the best and worst of weather. I recall the year when rain poured down upon us as we approached the capitol. We could have used an ark. Another year, in 1985-86, we had twelve inches of snow coming down and that was just in the hours of the March. We all had a thought of being with Napoleon marching home through the winter storms of Russia. It was a heavy snow and dangerous cold. I salute the many parishioners who will attend the March. God bless you for your great zeal for the weakest part of our country. Make a difference.
The winter season has its advantages. First, it gives me a chance to get to the winter sports in the local high schools. Last Friday I attended the Fauquier High School wrestling match involving some high school in Loudon County. The last time I attended a match was forty three years ago when I, a basketball player snuck in to root for the grapplers… with no necks. True to form, as in the past, this match was a battle. Franco Camarca was a star. And better yet was sitting next to his proud father, a former wrestling coach. Life doesn’t get any better.
If the storms hold off I hope to see some of our swimmers compete this Friday night at the WARF. Please stay tuned. In the meantime let us pray for one another.
Now is the time for politics to unfold itself in the great Commonwealth of Virginia. Please do not miss the opportunity to vote. I am grateful to the number of pro-abortion Catholic politicians who have retired from politics. In the Jubilee Year of Mercy we should all pray for their recovery with credible Catholic identity, before they meet many of their unborn constituents in the next world. Their return is not without precedence. Of course, the one and great exciting feature of the coming year is that somewhere someone is already working on a book to explain the socio-sexual experience that has ruptured our society. Please stay tuned.

attend the Friday, 8:30 Mass, are aware that the manner in which students are selected for Student of the Month is through exemplifying virtues espoused by the Saints of the Catholic Church. Virtues such as Prudence, Generosity, Trustworthiness, Charity, Compassion, Faith, Perseverance, Honesty, Responsibility and Respect are all noted by staff throughout the year. In addition, students can earn an Eagle Award for good deed which reflect the above virtues, as noticed by staff. We value our students and realize how blessed the school is to have such a devout group of students and families in our school! The Preschool will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week January 31st – February 6th and its continuing theme for 2016 “Catholic Schools; Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” Our special week begins with 5:30pm Mass, on January 31st, for St. John Schoo. Those students attending Mass are encouraged to wear their St. John Preschool t-shirts! Registration for the 2016-2017 school year will open on February 1, 2016. We have special activities planned each day for our students and then we will end with our Open House, scheduled for Saturday February 6th from 9am – 12pm. We will continue our Bible Timeline Study with James: Pearls for Wise Living, an eleven week study. We meet in Mercy Hall from 7pm to 9pm each week. This study is for anyone who has struggled to live a truly Christian Life, as "James" offers a wealth of practical solutions for handling and even sanctifying everyday circumstances.

The Society of St. Vincent DePaul is committed to relieving poverty and sees systemic change as the path to success in this effort. While we can provide immediate relief in desperate situations by covering utility bills, housing expenses, food and medicine, we understand that in many instances our help is merely a bandage covering a deeper wound. Our mission includes helping those we serve identify and embrace their ability to make positive changes in and for themselves, their families and their communities. We serve as mentors to support motivation for chage, and often collaborate with others who share our commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty by finding transformative solutions. As we begin a new year, we pray that our efforts are fruitful in bringing even one person – one family – into a brighter future. If you feel you can offer your special skills or expertise to assist those we serve, please let us know. Counseling services of all types – financial, legal, job placement, etc., would often be a help, as would automotive and building repair. No commitment required – we would simply offer the opportunity to serve.
