APRIL 9, 2017
Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken and asked,
“Who is this?”
Matthew 21:10
At first we join in with the disciples, waving our palm branches and singing “Hosanna.” I can’t help hearing the Jesus Christ Superstar version, “Hosanna, Hey Sanna,” the heys and the hos and the sanas cycling around, pointing out how little anyone understood what was about to happen. Then we become the angry mob calling for Jesus to die. And finally we are with Peter, denying the Lord. We are called to enter this drama to see that all those voices are still inside of us each of us capable of both worship and denial. So we might take a moment to stand at the gates of Jerusalem and ask, “Who is this?” and watch the figure, riding on an ass, who has been the object of so much hate
and love through the centuries.

All children and families are invited to participate in the annual Parish Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday following the 10:30 am Mass. Over 500 eggs will be hidden in the Jesuit Gardens behind St. John's Church. So, bring your Easter basket and come out and find them before the squirrels do. Volunteers are also needed to help set-up and hide the eggs before mass. If interested, please contact Jonathan at [email protected].
