Cierra tus
oídos a toda falsedad; mis labios o palabras mentirosas, egoís-tas, mordaces o hirientes.
repartir felicidad. Amen.

God, thank you for a new year. May every-one in our family be willing to begin with a clean slate. We know that you are always
ready to forgive us. Help us to be willing to forgive ourselves and to forgive one another.
As we begin a new year, remind us of our
truest values and our deepest desires. Help us to live in the goodness that comes from doing what you want us to do. Help us to put aside anxiety about the future and the
past, so that we might live in peace with you now, one day at a time. -Loyola Press
Meet a Teacher: My name is Madeleine Heldmann and I am thrilled to be the early childhood teacher at Holy Family Catholic School. Prior to joining the Early Childhood program at Holy Family, I taught kindergarten at both St. Matthew School in Glendale Heights and St. Mary School in West Chicago. I myself am a product of Catholic education having spent mu formative years in the Joliet Diocesan School System. I am presently a parishioner of St. Petronille Church in Glen Ellyn. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in reading from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. While at TC, I was a member of Chi Omega sorority where I served as Corresponding Secretary. I continue to be involved in my local Chi Omega alumnae chapter. After teaching kindergartner for several years, I decided to pursue my Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University. While studying for my Master’s Degree, I researched the benefits of journal writing with kindergarteners on which I based my graduate thesis. As a result of my research, I, too, have incorporated jour-naling with my Pre-K class! I come from a family of educators where the importance of education was instilled in me from an early age. Very soon into my professional career, I realized that teaching early childhood was my true calling. It is a joy working with three, four and five year olds because they are so enthusiastic and full of curiosity about the word around them! During my free time, I enjoy traveling, shopping and spending time with my family and friends.
What Instructional methods are used at Holy Family Catholic School? Holy Family Catholic School follows the guidelines and curriculum dictated by Illinois State Standards and the Diocese of Joliet Standards. Students in grades 2-8 take the Iowa Test of Ba-sic Skills (ITBS) and the Cognitive Achievement Test (CogAT) each fall. We also administer benchmark testing using AIMSweb for our primary students. We have an experienced and caring staff representing a balanced mix of backgrounds and talents. A small teacher to student ratio, as well as a full time Resource Teacher, provides for more opportunity for individualized teaching and dif-ferentiated instruction. Our staff continually participates in professional development to obtain new teaching strategies to supplement their successful tried and true teaching methods.

A day of support & reflection for
ANNULMENT PETITIONERS SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2014
8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. St Margaret Mary
1450 Green Trails Dr., IL
Completion of the annulment questionnaire can be a difficult and sometimes painful task. Confusion regarding the annulment process itself adds to the discomfort.
This one-day workshop is designed for divorced persons who have petitioned the Diocesan Marriage Tri-bunal to begin the annulment process, have submitted basic data for introduction of their case, but have not yet completed the required questionnaire. Catholics and non-Catholics are welcome to attend, whether remarried or not.
This day includes time for input regarding annulments and the relational issues dealt with in the ques-tionnaire. Participants can begin or continue filling out the questionnaire within a supportive atmos-phere. A team of pastoral ministers will be available for private consultation.
The day will also include a time for prayer, as we focus on beginning to turn negative and painful memories into sources of new life.
*Attendance at this day of support is very helpful but not mandatory.*

LOVE For generations, various cultures regarded family life
merely as a utilitarian necessity. Sirach introduces honor and respect. For Jews and Christians alike, the value of
family goes even further. The family is seen as the indispensable school where love is learned. Paul
addresses the Colossians and offers a list of virtues that make for a solid and happy church. These values also make for a happy family at ease with itself and its
members: mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness. As a capstone, Paul urges love, which brings
all of these domestic virtues to perfection. Paul seems to be on a roll as he lauds the virtues of
the church at Colossae. With such heartfelt virtues, it is no wonder Paul bursts into song. Who wouldn’t? It’s
clear that the center of the church is love. It is clear that no matter how far from home the members travel, the
heart remains and all the members are connected by the gravitational pull of mutual love, a love first learned in
family life. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY and JOSEPH Societal threats against the family can only be overcome by lives which are centered on the words of Christ and by a genuine desire to respect, protect, and love one another. As Paul tells the Colossians, we, too, must act with compas-sion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, love and gratitude, and always be guided by the word of Christ.
