I wish to thank Fr. Charlie and the St. Jude Parishioners for your prayers and well wishes during my convalescent period since April. Please continue to pray for me during my therapy period. GOOD SAMARITAN COLLECTION

This month’s collection is for the Partnership for Families, Children and Adults. Many household items are needed such as, blankets, sheets, wash cloths, dishes, alarm clocks, tools, can openers, pots and pans, silverware, extension cords. The full list is numerous and is included with the grocery bags. If you would like to help with this collection, please take a bag with you (from the vestibule) and return it next weekend with any of the items you can donate. Thank you for helping with this need.

RCIA “COME AND SEE” SESSIONS

The St. Jude Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is pleased to announce that the final two Come and See sessions for those who might be interested in

joining the Catholic Church have been scheduled. They will take place on Wed, Oct 12, at 7:00 pm, and Sun, Oct 16, after the 10:30 am Mass (11:30ish). Both sessions will be held in the Parish Life Center. These gatherings will be informal discussion and show-and-tell sessions centered on the Catholic faith, and the questions and comments that arise from within the group. A recent participant in the RCIA program will give a witness talk about their personal experience and journey to becoming Catholic, after which they will take questions from the group. The Knights of Columbus are collecting Coats, Jackets, Sweaters, Hoodies, Toiletries, New Socks and New

Underwear, along with any donations after Mass on the first four weekends in October. The needs for adult sizes are particularly important!!! Please put in collection boxes in vestibule. All proceeds (donations) will go to the following organizations: Chattanooga Homeless Center, Ladies of Charity, TN of Veteran Affairs, St Vincent De Paul Society.

When Fr. Charlie visits his family in Pennsylvania in October, he’ll be making his usual stop at Urbaniak’s Meat Market in Erie, PA. If you would like him to bring you some smoked kielbasa (Polish sausage), you can place a PREPAID order at the parish office. Each “stick” is a little larger than a hot dog and costs $2. Last date to order: Oct. 12; pick up date: Oct. 21.

POPCORN SALE October 15-16

St. Jude Cub Scout Pack 3172 will be selling popcorn after all Masses on the weekend of Oct 15-16 as part of their annual fundraiser.

On Sun, Oct 23, St Jude parish will sponsor a blood drive from 9am – 2pm in the church parking lot. Our parish has always been very generous in donating, and the blood supply is at an all-time low. OLIVE WOOD SALE October 22-23

Our brothers and sisters representing the Bethlehem Christian Families, a nonprofit organization through Land of Peace, will be with us the weekend of Oct 22-23 speaking about the Christian situation in the Holy Land and selling crucifixes, religious art work, and rosaries – all made of olive wood, native to Israel and Bethlehem. Since tourism has greatly depleted, Christian families in the Holy Land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. The goal of this mission is to build a Charitable Hospital in Bethlehem and help the poor and needy families in Bethlehem and Jerusalem. FAITH FORMATION CLASSES and HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

Faith formation Classes that include confirmation prep are offered for Grades 9-12. We will continue to meet every Sunday at 6.30pm in the youth room (above Gym). This program is combined with the High School Youth group and ministry within a fun and game- filled evening. Dinner and drinks provided. Come join this group that is growing fast!

HOSPITAL HOSPITALITY

Thanks to Mona Bombassi, who contributed to this ministry during the month of September. Each month a group or family agrees to buy packaged, single-portioned snacks and drop them off on Wed mornings at the Memorial Hixon ER. If your family or ministry group would like to participate for a single week or an entire month, please call Claire at 875-2481.

Homilia Son muchos los beneficios que a lo largo de la vida nos ha hecho el Señor: desde darnos la vida temporal y la eterna, pasando por limpiarnos la lepra del pecado con la Redención muriendo en la Cruz. Cuando damos gracias a Dios, estamos permitiendo que el Espíritu Santo, que habita en nuestros corazones desde el día del Bautismo, se exprese a través de nosotros del modo más adecuado. "El Espíritu Santo, enseña Juan Pablo II, está en el origen de la oración que refleja del modo más perfecto la relación existente entre las Personas divinas de la Trinidad: la oración de glorificación y de acción de gracias... Carvajal, hemos de frenar las impaciencias y permanecer recogidos con Dios que nos visita. Nada hay en el mundo más importante que prestar a ese Huésped el honor y la atención que se merece".

Consejo Espiritual “5 consejos sorprendentemente sencillos para

volver a tus hijos más creativos” ¿Cómo estimular la creatividad de los niños? Psicólogos y especialistas en desarrollo infantil sugieren dejar de lado la ansiedad y el exceso de atención y dar más libertad a los niños para que ellos mismos descubran lo que realmente les interesa.“Ser adulto significa ocupar el propio tiempo con actividades que nos hacen felices. Y esto es lo que tienes que enseñar a tus hijos”, afirma Lyn Fry, psicóloga infantil de Londres, sobre el sentido de la preparación que los papás deben dar a los niños. zSegún el psicoanalista Adam Phillips, la “capacidad de aburrirse le permite al niño crecer”, ya que el tedio vuelve posible contemplar la vida y analizarla, en vez de pasar por ella sin parar a pensar sobre lo que sucede. Para él, los niños necesitan disponer de tiempo libre para descubrir lo que realmente les gusta y lo que más les interesa. El tedio es fundamental para ese descubrimiento.Cristiana De Ranieri, psicóloga clínica del Hospital Bambino Gesù, de Roma, ofreció a Aleteia algunos consejos útiles para estimular la creatividad de los niños.“Nuestros hijos, muchas veces, tienen una vida muy ocupada. La simple idea de que ellos puedan experimentar momentos de tedio y de vacío atemoriza a los

papás. Los padres piensan que eso sería una señal de desatención, un no rellenar la vida de los niños. Pero si los niños tienen todo, ellos activan con menos frecuencia actividades cognitivas como el deseo, la curiosidad”. A continuación los consejos prácticos de la especialista: “Sí” al tedio-Tener la oportunidad de estar aburrido ayuda a tu hijo a crecer. Los momentos de tedio estimulan la mente a buscar algo que rompa la molestia, a encontrar algo interesante, estimulando así el deseo y, por lo tanto, colocando la mente en movimiento.--Cosas sencillas-Los niños se “recargan” haciendo cosas poco programadas, poco estructuradas, banales. ¿Un ejemplo? Jugar con el abuelo, pintar, redescubrir juegos viejos que estaban olvidados en un rincón… y hasta quedar varios minutos simplemente sin hacer nada.--No tener miedo al tiempo libre-El niño tiene una dimensión del tiempo diferente a la nuestra. Él acoge con interés los estímulos y los papás necesitan ofrecerles las condiciones para entender esos estímulos. Para ello, el tiempo libre es fundamental. ¿Qué te gusta hacer?-Es igualmente fundamental estimular al niño para que piense lo que le gustaría hacer. Esto lo impulsa a descubrir lo que le interesa, sin programaciones ni orientaciones previas.--Hacer cosas juntos-Muchos papás compran juguetes de todo tipo para sus hijos… Pero no juegan con ellos. Es necesario darles a los niños la oportunidad de estar con los papás también a la hora de jugar, compartiendo con ellos experiencias agradables..Inteligencia y estímulos. ¿El niño que entrena la mente de esa forma es más listo que los demás? La psicóloga observa: “No es la ‘cantidad’ de inteligencia lo que distingue a los niños, sino la activación de ‘gatillos emocionales’ o motivaciones diferentes. Ciertamente, estimular las actividades intelectuales y mentales diferentes es un incentivo para el desarrollo de una inteligencia más flexible y más activa”.Está claro que no se puede dejar al niño todo el tiempo sin hacer nada, o sólo haciendo lo que quiere. Los papás deben proporcionar a los hijos un amplio acceso a experiencias formativas y enriquecedoras, que incluyan actividades físicas, deportes en equipo, mucha vida en familia, mucha y generosa interacción con otros niños, convivencia con personas ancianas, contacto con animales de estimulación y con la naturaleza, incentivos al lenguaje y al aprendizaje espontáneo de idiomas, juegos que estimulen el conocimiento y el raciocinio, el contacto con la espiritualidad…Lo que no se puede es sobrecargar a los niños al punto de sofocarlos, privándolos del tiempo libre y… del tedio.
