Dear Families:

This Sunday’s Gospel tells us how Chris ans should view the temple; with care and respect. It is not easy to be in touch with the Word of God in the midst of distrac ons, rush, traffic and parking concerns, trying to find the right address…

We need a climate of peace for prayer and medita on. We can do this individually at our homes, but this is not enough. Jesus created us a people of church-community. We gather to hear the teachings of Jesus, to pray together, to celebrate our faith, to ask forgiveness and rebuild our hope. For these reasons we have temples and churches. Now let's take a step further: Jesus is the temple of God; the Son of God, made man, who suffered and died on the Cross for our salva on and rose from the dead on the third day. We, through our Bap sm, are incorporated in the life and death of Jesus. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit, the gi from Jesus to those who follow Him.

Each of us, united together, is the Body of Christ: the community (church) of believers in Jesus. This is the mystery that we celebrate one more year, during Holy Week. May these days of Lent help us get closer to God and feel His infinite love. He is the Good Father who loves us in His Son Jesus. Peace and good-will for you, reading this message, and your family.

Queridas familias: En este domingo (en el Evangelio) se nos habla del respeto, del cuidado y de lo que debe ser el templo para los cris anos. No nos es fácil ponernos en contacto con la palabra de Dios en medio de las distracciones, prisas, preocupaciones por el tráfico, por el parqueo, por encontrar la dirección a la que vamos. Necesitamos un clima de paz para orar y meditar. Individualmente lo podemos hacer en nuestras casas, pero esto no basta. Jesús nos creó iglesia-comunidad. Nos reunimos para escuchar las enseñanzas de Jesús, para orar juntos, para celebrar nuestra fe, para pedir perdón y rehacer nuestra esperanza. Por esto tenemos templos, iglesias. Ahora demos un paso más: Jesús es el templo de Dios; es el Hijo de Dios, hecho hombre que sufrió y murió en la Cruz para salvarnos, y resucitó al tercer día. Y nosotros por el Bau smo nos incorporamos a la vida y muerte de Jesús y venimos a ser templo del Espíritu Santo, que es el regalo de Jesús para los que le siguen. Cada uno, unido a los demás, somos el Cuerpo de Cristo: la comunidad (iglesia) de los que creen en Jesús. Este es el misterio que un año más celebramos en la Semana Santa. Que estos días de la Cuaresma nos ayuden a acercarnos más a Dios y sen r el amor infinito que nos ene. Él es el Buen Padre que nos ama en su Hijo Jesús. Fasting and Abstinance for Lent / Ayuno y Abstinencia durante la Cuaresma

All Fridays during Lent and Good Friday are obligatory days of abstinence for Catholics.

For members of the Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.
