Society of St.Vincent de Paul - St. Kevin’s Conference
This week, please help the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to bring the love
and mercy of Jesus to those who feel left out and abandoned, for indeed
we are only doing “what we are obliged to do”. We have resumed our collection of
personal care products for our Christmas Purse Project. These items could include,
toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, feminine hygiene products, lip
balm, snack, and perhaps a Tim Card for a treat! These filled purses will be
distributed to the Friendship Centre, the Mission, the Foodbanks and Genevra
House! Thank you for your support! Any questions, please call Michelle Jenkinson
at 705-923-0205.
Wisdom Quote
“ Be careful how you live.
You may be the only Bible some people will ever read ”
“Genesis to Jesus”
(A simple, brief video Bible study)
Though the Bible speaks about the history of our salvation, it is too big for most of us to read the entire book and grasp the central theme of the book. The cultural milieu in which most of the biblical events took place is totally foreign to our context; and that makes it still harder for us to understand the purpose and meaning of some events and how those events are connected to our own salvation.
St. Paul Centre has prepared a video presentation to help its viewers to properly understand the Biblical events and the central theme that runs through the entire Bible. This is an excellent video programme made of 10 lessons, each lesson lasting only 22 to 25 minutes.
Starting from Oct 23rd, next five Wednesdays at 7:00 pm these video-lessons will be screened at St. Kevin’s Church. For five Wednesdays we will watch these videos and on Nov 27th we will have a sharing/theological discussion for an hour. This will be a great preparation for the season of Advent. Book these dates on your calendar.
Wednesdays at 7:00pm @ St. Kevin’s
Video-Lessons: Oct 23, Oct 30, Nov 6, Nov 13, Nov 20
Sharing / Theological Discussion: Nov 27

VOTING AS CATHOLICS - 2019 Federal Election Guide Voting
Below is an excerpt from a document written by the Canadian Conference of
Catholic Bishops Permanent Council.
Voting Means Using Your Judgment
Exercising the right to vote means making informed and discerning
judgments about the options available. There are times, however, when making a de-
cision about who to vote for may prove very difficult. The Church reminds us that
“in this context, it must be noted also that a well-formed Christian conscience does
not permit one to vote for a political program or an individual law in which the fun-
damental content of faith and morals is replaced by the introduction of proposals dif-
fering from this content or opposing it.” It is a sign of a healthy democratic commu-
nity when informed and responsible citizens engage in an ongoing dialogue on major
social issues with their political leaders. This is precisely the kind of community we
should strive to support and develop. No less is expected of us, since all are called to
take an active part in morally shaping the societies we inhabit and, Christians in par-
ticular, to defend the rights of those who are most vulnerable.
EXTRAORDINARY MISSIONARY MONTH - OCTOBER 2019
“Go! Make disciples of all nations.” (Mt 28:19) These words—the
imperative mission of Christ—call each baptized Catholic to ac-
tion. The Church has a lasting mission to
perform in this world, a mission that is ever more apparent, and
the need for it is ever more urgent. In fact, mission isn’t some-
thing the Church does. It is what the Church is! This year, World Mission Sunday is
on October 20. This is a worldwide collection for the missionary Church that offers
emergency aid when disaster strikes, cares for refugees in war-torn countries, pro-
vides rural health clinics and transportation for priests, catechists, religious and lay
pastoral workers. It offers financial support for the daily needs of all missionaries.
Please pray for the missions and be generous on World Mission Sunday.
Some of the poorest churches in the world are the recipient of your donations. In
2018, $511, 966 was sent to Ghana and $540,627 was sent to Nigeria through the
Pontifical Mission Societies in Canada.
Message of His Holiness Francis for World Mission Day 2019
In his letter Pope Francis shares his reflections on renewing the Church’s
missionary commitment, and how this mandate touches all of us
personally. Copies of his letter are available in the foyers of our
churches, for you to take home.
