These weeks of an Easter Season are given to us in order to open our eyes to see the Risen Christ alive and with us in our lives today. This weekend, Colleen Wisniewski from the Catholic Charities Food Pantry at St. Irenaeus will speak to us about how food donated does have an impact on people’s lives. The need is real; we let the love that is the Risen Christ alive in who we are respond with generosity. Next Sunday a group of young boys and girls from our parish will receive their first Holy Communions and take this important step in their faith life. Surrounded by their families and friends they will truly recognize the ‘real presence’ of Christ’s love with them and through them for others. Our Easter joy continues as we welcome these young people and their enthusiastic faith into our Sunday Mass experience. Congratulations and thanks to their parents and teachers for encouraging and passing on our faith. Let’s all look forward to welcoming them as they come together to pray with us as the Body of Christ. Heavenly Father, lover of all, we praise you for giving us Jesus… He blessed the children who came to him and welcomes those who come to him now. Notes from Fr. Tom St. Kieran Parish

Third Sunday of Easter April 19, 2015

You alone, O LORD, bring security to my dwelling.

— Psalm 4:9

Dear Friends, The next two weeks will be very busy ones here at St. Kieran. Our Confirmation candidates participated in a “Spirit Day” Retreat yesterday, along with hundreds of their peers from Vicariate VI of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Our second graders will receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time next Sunday, April 26, at the 10:00 a.m. mass. Rehearsal for First Eucharist is Friday evening, April 24, at 6:00 p.m. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred on our St. Kieran candidates, along with candidates from St. Agnes Parish and Marian Catholic High School, at a special mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Alberto Rojas on Thursday, April 30, at 7:00 p.m. here at St. Kieran Church. Practice for Confirmation is Wednesday, April 29, at 7:00 p.m. The Religious Education year will officially end with May Crowning, which will be celebrated this year at the 5:00 p.m. mass on Saturday, May 2. Please keep all of our sacramental candidates, their families, and their catechists in your prayers.

Happy Easter!

Food Drive Sunday is Coming!!!

The Outreach Committee has designated the fourth Sunday (weekend) of every month as Food Drive Sunday! The shelves of the Catholic Charities Food Pantry at St. Irenaeus Church, which we collectively sponsor, is full of food at the holidays—due to the generosity of our parishioners and the parishioners of our sister churches. However, once the holidays are over, the poor and the needy again go unnoticed. We would like to insure that the wonderful people of St. Kieran Church will have a part in making food available to those in need all year round. Each month, before the last full weekend of the month, a list of needed supplies will be printed in the bulletin and available by the food bin. Our St. Kieran shopping bags will also be available in the food bin for our parishioners to take home and fill, if they have the means. If you can’t fill a bag, please consider bringing a few cans or boxes of food stuffs for the collection. Make sure your donation is here, in the food bin, by the last weekend of the month. Our first Food Drive Sunday will be the weekend of April 25-26, 2015. Please take a shopping bag home to remind you that the Food Drive will take place. We thank you in advance for your continued generosity in reaching out to those who need it most. God bless you all for your efforts on behalf of God’s people!

MARKET DAY© NEWS

Orders for the April 28 Market Day© sale are due this week. Paper orders must be submitted by Wednesday, April 22, and internet orders must be submitted by Thursday, April 23, at 11:00 p.m. Flyers are available in the church vestibule, Religious Education office, and rectory.

The St. Kieran Religious Education office appreciates your support of this fundraiser.

DONATIONS FOR ST. KIERAN CARES

We have removed the “Poor Box” from the church vestibule because it is the one area that is not checked on a regular basis for donations. If you are a person who frequently leaves donations in the Poor Box, we do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you; however, if checks are placed in the Poor Box, it sometimes takes a few months before they are turned into the Rectory Office. To compensate for this, we have placed some temporary “St. Kieran Cares” envelopes on one of the tables in the vestibule of the church. We ask that you use these envelopes for your donation, no matter the size, and either place in the Sunday collection or on the counter in the sacristy. If you wish to have your donation recorded in your parish donation file, please write your name on the front of the envelope. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We thank everyone in the parish for their generous donations to St. Kieran Cares!
