From Fr. Mark’s Desk: Solemnity of Christ the King: “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” It is a familiar scene from the Gospel of Luke. In the garden, three crosses, three men. In the middle is Jesus, on either side a criminal. Jesus considered by some to be a criminal too. Each of the three men is preparing to die, each has a completely different disposi on. In the center is Jesus. He had spoken of a kingdom, but some didn’t understand. The king-dom he intended, (and s ll intends), is a kingdom of jus ce, peace, forgiveness and above all, love. Civil law is rarely, if ever, concerned with love. The Law in the civil arena is to protect the society and its members. With love, there is mercy and fullness of redemp on. Without love, there is a need for more laws, and punishment for those who disobey. People fight and some-

mes die to protect civil law. But in the final analysis, civil law is human law; it cannot trans-cend me and space. To those who put Jesus on the cross, he is a threat to civil law and must be punished. But because Jesus is love, he will transcend the cross to the kingdom which hu-manity cannot create or order. On the side of Jesus is a criminal. The nature of his disobedience is unclear, but he envi-sions a life where he can regain his posi on in a civil world. He challenges Jesus to do the same. This man cannot envision a life apart from his immediate existence. He taunts Jesus, sugges ng perhaps, that Jesus should reconsider his priori es. Jesus knows where and to whom He is going. This criminal is blind to it. On the other side of Jesus is a criminal. The nature of his disobedience is also unclear. But perhaps, like Zacchaeus, he had heard of Jesus, and now, like Zacchaeus, wants to know Jesus be er. This criminal is not blind to the kingdom of which Jesus speaks, and understands that love transcends civil law. This insight brings this criminal redemp on…. “Your faith has saved you, for today you will be with me in Paradise”. Those who witness the event of the crucifixion vary. There are some who are there simply to see the spectacle. There are those who are simply lost in this world. But there are those who watch carefully, knowing they are in the presence of Love, and in Love is redemp on. “Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.” Have a Happy Thanksgiving!! Fr. Mark Walter

in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in

Stewardship… “...giving thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to

share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light.”

God wants us to be happy! Instead of looking at the Ten Commandments as being restric ve and telling us what we can’t do, look at them as guides for living a joy-filled and peaceful life. Most of our problems arise when we put our own needs first or spend most of our me trying to acquire “things”. Try pu ng God first in all things in-stead. Ask Him how He wants you to use your gi s.

Once again we had a wonderful response to the Catholic Charities Adopt-A-Family appeal. We had 50 families, and they were all taken by last Saturday. Our St. Linus Family always exceeds expectations in their generosity to those less fortunate. Thank you so much!! God bless you, and have a very Merry Christmas.

PLEASE NOTE: Our monthly food collection is drawing ants into the church. This is a non-perishable food collection. Cookies, cake, bread and sugar packets, while well-intentioned, are perishable and do not store well in the back of church. Please check canned goods and packaged food for expiration dates. Food out-of-date has to be tossed. Open packages also have to be tossed. PLEASE DO NOT BRING FOOD INTO THE CHURCH BEFORE THE COLLECTION WEEKEND. The back of church is not a safe place to store food. Thank you for your help by do-nating food that is safe to give to others.

Reconciliation Family Sessions begin November 4th for children preparing to receive the sacra-ment for the first time. Families

are encouraged to go to the parish website under Reli-gious Education to look for the selected session and view location instructions there. Families who have not turned in their selected session should do so as soon as possible. Please pray for our First Reconciliation students who will receive the sacrament on December 7th. Family Mass December 8th at Noon Mass. This will be in conjunction with the Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society

LOVE IN OUR WORK Today as we celebrate Christ the King, may we open the door of our heart so wide that we may listen to the voice of Jesus calling us to help build his king-dom here on earth.

In the month of November, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help build the kingdom of God by assisting families with food and providing help with utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You!

Our annual nonperishable Thanksgiv-ing food drive for the St. Margaret of Scotland food pantry will be the weekend of November 23/24. Food will also be collected on Thanksgiv-ing Day.

PLEASE NOTE: We are always looking for new members or volunteers. Leave your name and number

at the rectory. If you have borrowed a wheelchair from

St. Vincent de Paul and are no longer in need of it, please return it to the rectory. Thank you.
