The ‘walk’ is planned for March and they need a working committee. Please contact Anthony at [email protected] to offer your assistance. Congratulations to the graduating class of 2016. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration on Friday at 11am. Make sure you try to attend the big concert for volunteers and sponsors on Tuesday 6 December and for parents on Thursday 8 December. Swimming Children are loving the pool and their skills have noticeably improved over the past few weeks. May I stress that the pool is particularly clean and tested 3 times daily. Only the highest standards apply to our health and safety procedures with the pool. Tuckshop The staff would like to thank the fabulous tuckshop helpers for all they do for the children but also for staff. There were times during the year when there was a shortage of helpers and Nicole and Maria would battle away. Since the death of Maria there has been overwhelming support. So many parents have told me that they could not let Maria down. Nicole informed me that Maria not only knew all the children individually but all of their dietary requirements and favourite items. Nicole’s daughter is moving on to High School and so we all thank you Nicole for your tireless support over so many years. The quality and service under Nicole’s organisation has been remarkable. Tara Linquist and Kylie Chein have generously volunteered to coordinating the tuckshop next year in memory of Maria. In Memory of Eli, Martin, Maria and Fernando At the Parents and Friends meeting and at the St Lucy’s Board meeting last week, a number of proposals were discussed regarding a memorial to the Manrique family. There was strong agreement that the Art room be named ‘The Eli and Martin Art Studio’; that the Manrique Bursary be established; and that a bench be placed near the back gate where mums gather at the end of the day in memory of Maria. The naming of the Art Studio will be made at the beginning of the school year. The bench may need to be placed after the building program. Anyone wishing to financially support the Bursary can do so through our school website. May I thank everyone who has contributed ideas so spontaneously and so generously. I hope to see you at the Ensemble Theatre Kirribilli tonight at 6.30. St Lucy’s attended Oak Hill College last Wednesday where they put on a spectacular Christmas event for all of our students. The day was such a success and the children all had such an wonderful time seeing the animal

farm, magician show, some fun in the sports hall, a wonderful concert and of course Santa!

TRIVIA NIGHT ORGANISING COMMITTEE

Term 4, 2016 has been a time of grief, trial, anguish and loss for every person in any way associated with St Lucy’s, and beyond. Each one of us has struggled to find a way through these dark days. The story of Job in the Old Testament who was greatly afflicted through loss of his children, his property and his health, comes to mind. Indeed, Job cursed the day of his birth. In the midst of his suffering, having agonised over his plight, he is able to affirm, “This I know: that my Redeeemer lives … ” (Job 19:25) Perhaps for us, the message of Job is knowing that in our darkest of days, we are not alone.

The students of St Lucy’s will now enjoy their lessons in warm water all year round DUE TO Red Energy having donated and installing 95 x JA Solar 265W polycrystalline panels on the gymnasium roof and a Panasonic lithium-ion 8kWh battery. We are extremely grateful to Red Energy for their generous philanthropic support.

Funds raised will go towards Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and our School Psychologist. Funds will also go towards additional programs which are offered to further develop each student’s academic, creative and social skills.

Week Without Words (WWW) campaign, is our annual fundraising and awareness campaign to highlight the challenges of those who struggle to verbally communicate.

For 95% of our children, conditions like dyspraxia, autism or cognitive difficulties make speaking an everyday challenge.

All proceeds from the WWW Raffle are used by St Lucy’s to fund additional resources, programs, speech therapy and communication devices that enable our children to have a voice. Tickets may also be purchased at St Lucy’s reception and traditional books of fifteen tickets can be requested to be sent home.

THANK YOU FROM ONE OF OUR RAFFLE WINNERS LAST YEAR

In December 2015 at the annual St Lucy’s concert I won first prize in the ‘Week Without Words’ raffle which was a two nights stay at the beautiful ‘Beggars Bridge Vineyard’ in the Hunter Valley about two hours drive from Sydney The prize was duly accepted and taken on the 18th an 19th of November.

The two storey house is set in about an acre of land with 5/6 bedrooms with en suits,a large fully equiped kitchen with all the latest gadgets,TV room with added Foxtel,dining room, and large lounge area,and family room, snooker room, large pool and spar with the weather being perfect.

So would like to say on behalf of eight adults and two children a very big thank you to Michael Gilles Lawyers for the wonderful donation and to St Lucy’s for the great effort in in organising the raffle.

A terrific time was had by all.

ALL INCLUSIVE GYMNASTICS PROGRAM

A Gymnastics program incorporating fun and structured specific activities to target individual

abilities. Smaller groups with visual support run by a qualified Special Needs Teacher who is also a

Gymnastics Coach.

Places are limited to a maximum of 3 children per session.
