Greetings From Your Rector

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Beginning on November 29th, the First Sunday of Advent, we enter a time in the

new Church year of preparation. Preparing not only to celebrate the anniversary

of our Saviors birth, but also a preparation in our hearts and in our lives for the

second coming of our Lord. Both of these are extremely difficult tasks, even in

the best of times. Our modern secular world demands of us a hectic and chaotic

season of shopping, parties, and gift giving. As Christians, we are called to sepa-rate ourselves, to the extent possible, from these all consuming worldly pres-

sures, and make time for our own spiritual preparations. I pray that each of us

might set aside even five minutes a day, to pray and open our hearts and minds to

God. Please join me in praying the following prayer each day during this season of

Advent. This prayer was written for our use by The Rt. Rev. Frank T. Griswold,

25th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church:

“O Day Spring, splendor of eternal light, Sun of Righteousness; come and enlight-en the darkness of our minds. O Key of David, come and open wide the secret

places of our hearts that we may receive you who came among us at Bethlehem,

and who comes among us daily in the unfolding of our lives, and will come again in

glory in the age to come. Amen”

May God continue to bless each of you during this Holy Season!

Each year we adorn the sanctuary with poinsettias at Christmastime.

If you would like to give one in thanksgiving or as a memorial,

the cost will be $13.00 each. Please let Ellen know by Dec. 18th,

so they may be ordered from the nursery

Lay Volunteer Orientation and

Training for Shepherd’s Hands Medical Clinic-Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at 10am

Plans for the clinic are moving for-ward toward opening early next year. We will need to have a trained volunteer staff in place after the holidays. Lori Thompson, Area Volunteer Coordinator for the Florida Department of Health, will conduct a volunteer orientation and training Monday, December 7, at 10am, in the Parish Hall.

The application and reference forms should be completed be-fore the training.

Please bring the following with you to the training on Dec. 7:

Application, with signature on page 2

2 Completed Volunteer Personal Ref-

erence Questionnaires

Volunteer Services Job Description

Completed HIPAA Test

These items will be submitted to Ms. Thompson for review.

We are grateful so many are inter-ested in volunteering. If you know of anyone else who would like to participate, please ask them to con-tact Lydia Bush or Anne Doswell or Ellen Cory for an application pack-et. We look forward to seeing you on the 7th.

An anonymous benefactor from our parish has very generously pledged up to $8,000 matching funds for contributions to the St. Luke’s labyrinth. This pledge would match contributions dollar for dol-

lar. If fully matched by gifts, this contribution would bring the pro-ject very near completion.

SAVE THE DATE-DECEMBER 12th The Daughters of the King extends an invitation to everyone to join them for the Advent Quiet Day on December 12th, from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The bestselling book, Can You Drink the Cup, by Henri Nouwen, will be the theme for prayer and meditation on this day. Nouwen’s book is available online, in paperback and Kindle format, for less than $12. A light lunch will be provided. Watch the service bulle-tin and the December Godly Ga-zette for more information.

Deacon’s Corner We heard from Mother Tulia this week. It seems all is going very well there. They have the second floor finished except for the bath-rooms and they hope to have it fin-ished by the end of the year. The funds we have been sending each month have gone a long way in helping them to finish this project. The man who they hope will do the windows came by again and it seems he may be able to start be-fore too long….. The big entry door is made of Cedar, but it is pretty destroyed and they want to fix it up. The women are making things to sell at a bazaar and will use the money for the door. They are using the sewing machine and all the sew-ing equipment we sent several years ago and are, no doubt, mak-ing some beautiful things to sell. Things are changing in Cuba – they can do such a thing now! Anyway the women are hoping to raise $700 to repair the door. Yeah!! More power to them!! And thanks to all of you who gave the materials they can use to do this. Keep them in your prayers as they keep us in theirs.

ICS Cremation & Funeral Home

ICS is offering a free, no obligation information seminar with refresh-ments. While you eat, you can learn about what options are available and why it’s important for your family that you preplan your funer-al. If you are interested, let Ellen know the best time and day to have this program.

Proud parents are Jerry & Tara Crosby along with godparents, Tony & Tammy Williams.

The Coffee Hour following the 11am service has been a tradition at St. Luke’s for many years. It is a great way to get a chance to visit with each other and to meet and greet those visiting and potential mem-bers. We find we are now often without someone who has signed up to host the coffee hour.

The menu for the coffee hour can be very simple such as coffee, lem-onade, and cookies. It is not meant to be a meal or heavy finger foods, just a light treat. We hope you will think about hosting an upcoming Sunday. You can call Ellen to sign up or check the schedule in the Parish hall to sign up. The new 2016 calen-dar is now up.

Dear St. Luke’s Family,

It has been a holiday custom at this time of year for members of St. Luke’s to show collective apprecia-

tion for our rector for the many ongoing blessings he gives to us.

If you would like to participate in honoring Fr George and his family, please make your check payable to

St. Luke's, marked for the Priests’ Christmas gifts. Ellen needs to have your contributions by Dec. 19th, in order to combine them for a presentation from our parish family

on Christmas Eve.

Respectfully, Hal Airth, Sr. Warden

What is the Purpose of The Order of the Daughters of the King?

The purpose of the order is evangelism. We desire, through a disciplined rule of prayer and service, to encourage in

others and ourselves a deeper relationship to our Lord Christ Jesus. A Daughter continually renews her spiritual life as she lives out her baptismal vows to follow Jesus, to work, to pray, to witness, and to give for the spread of His

kingdom.

This little prayer was found tucked away in the St. Luke’s DOK archives. It was written by Father Hugh and speaks beautifully to the daily renewal of every heart.

A Prayer of Daily Commitment by Father Hugh

O Lord, Jesus Christ- I give myself anew to You this day,

All that I am - all that I have; To be totally and unconditionally Yours for Your using. Take me away from myself and use me up, as You will –

when you will – where you will – with whom you will. O Lord, Jesus Christ, take from me by loving force,

All that I withhold from You -All that I will not give to You -
