Literacy

What is a surprise? Have you ever been surprised in some way? Have you ever surprised anyone before? How did you feel?

Surprising someone can be very special for yourself and the person you are surprising. When you do something out of the ordinary and unexpectedly, it can have a good emotional affect – it makes you feel good, as you are doing

something that makes someone else happy.

Write a paragraph (a few sentences)explaining who you would like to surprise, why you would like to surprise them, and how you are going to surprise them.

Remember: Cursive handwriting – every letter starts on the line with an entranc e stroke up.

All sentences begin with a capital letter A There must be a finger space between each word

All sentences end with a full stop

Use your phonic knowledge to help you build new words. Here are some sound mats to help you.

Maths

Doubling is when we add the same number together. We are going to double all the numbers to 10.

Draw a template of your very own lady bird. Cut out 20 black spots. You can use buttons or any other appropriate materials you have at home. Start by putting spots on one side of the lady bird and then make sure you put the same amount of spots on

the other side of the ladybird. Count how many spots altogether. Write a number sentence to show your findings. Practice your doubling number sentences until you know them by heart.

Jesus was very impressed with the Centurion because the Centurion believed that Jesus could heal his servant without even going to his house! Why do you think that Jesus was impressed? Why did the Centurion think this? The Centurion trusted Jesus; he believed in Him and had faith in Him.

It is good to talk about the things that make us sad, so that we can help each other. If the Centurion hadn’t talked to Jesus, he would have lost his servant, his servant would have died.

Make a Centurion’s shield from cardboard and decorate it with shiny paper and foil or any other materials you have at home.

The Centurion was an important man, but he still asked Jesus to help him. Even King, Queens, Princes, Princesses and Prime Ministers need help!

Understanding of the World

Handa’s Surprise is a story that takes place on a Continent called Africa.

Africa is a big land mass that is made up of lots of countries. Your family may come from one of these countries or you may know someone who does.

Pick a country in Africa and using your laptop, tablet and/or books you may have at home, create your very own fact-file.

Think about the weather, the animals, the plants, the food, how people dress, what the buildings look like etc. How are these things similar or different to where you live in England?

Art

The jewellery from Africa, is beautiful, bright and bold. Get creative and make some African jewellery .
