PETER AND PAUL FROM THE PASTOR: Once again, I wish to express gratitude to the Adoration Committee and all the parish groups who took part in the Corpus Christi procession last Sunday. It was a prayerful, beautiful, and memorable event. At one point in the procession, a car drove by with its windows open, and a passenger was heard to say, “That’s awesome!” Yes, it was! During the past week, I went to Columbus with several members of the parish to participate in the annual Dei Gratia (by the grace of God) dinner put on by the Catholic Foundation. It was a grand night for our parish, which was presented with the Dei Gratia award – the first and only time any parish has won this special honor! Our parish has been a pioneer in seeing the possibilities of investing with the Catholic Foundation, and this farsighted planning has certainly borne fruit. In the past year alone, our parish, school, and affiliated programs have received over $100,000.00 in grant money from various Foundation funds. This funding is vital to allow us to continue serving the Catholics and others of Marion County. On Friday, I finished teaching a two-week long course at the University of Dayton. Thanks to the priests who filled in while I was gone so that we would not have to cancel daily Mass. I know how important daily Mass is to so many members of this parish, so I try to find priests to say these Masses when I can’t be here. I have to say that it’s not easy, and it’s getting harder. Pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send more workers into His vineyard! Next week, the parish offices will be closed for Independence Day. This holiday reminds us of the critical need to pray and work for the protection of religious freedom in this land of liberty. For more information on current threats to religious liberty in the United States, visit the webpage of the US Catholic Bishops at usccb.org. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. The Catholic Church supports ethically responsible stem cell research, while opposing any research or direct action that exploits or destroys human embryos. The Catholic Church has long supported research using stem cells from adult tissue and umbilical cord blood, which poses no moral problem. Many of these cells are already being used to treat people with a wide variety of diseases.
