Confession (The Light is on for You) and Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament Beginning on March 17th and continuing the next four Tuesdays, evening Confession and Adoration will take place in the upper church from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. It is recommended that two people be present at all times during exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament. We ask you to com-mit to a 30 minute timeframe by signing the sheet available on the shelf at the middle door church entrance. The time slots are: 6:30 to 7:00; 7:00 to 7:30; 7:30 to 8:00. For those unable to commit to a specific time, please come whenever you can. During Adoration, what better time to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation by going to Confession? By participating in the Sacra-ment of Reconciliation, whether our first time in days, weeks, months or years, we are experiencing God’s individual and unwavering love for us, and one of the true graces made available to us by our Catholic faith. God loves us just the way we are, but he loves us too much to leave us that way. When we return to the Church for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Jesus rejoices like the father in the Parable of the Prodigal Son. It is never "too late" to return to Jesus and ask for forgiveness. Imagine how joyful you will feel upon confessing your sins, big or small!

Reflection for the 2nd Sunday of Lent

Today we are following Jesus up on a high mountain with Peter, James, and John. There they see Jesus "transfigured," his face like the sun and his clothes as white as light. Jesus is there conversing with Moses and Elijah.

What are we to make of this image of Jesus, the earthly teacher of this small band of disciples? They were merely followers of a teacher, a rabbi. When they see this and hear a voice proclaiming, "This is my beloved Son..." they begin to realize this man is more than just a rabbi. However, Jesus tells them to keep this a secret until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.

Well, they have no idea what this means. Therefore, they continue to follow him as if he was just a human, a teacher. However, we live in the time after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead. Now it is we who must proclaim the good news of Jesus, the Son of God the Father.

Take this week and think about how, in your own way, can proclaim through your words and deeds the Jesus is your savior, your teacher, and rabbi. LPi

Second Sunday of Lent

Readings for March 8, 2020

Second Sunday of Lent

First Reading Genesis 12:1-4a Responsorial Psalm Psalms 33:4-5, 18-19, 20, 22 Second Reading Second Timothy 1:8b-10 Gospel Matthew 17:1-9

Today’s gospel presents the familiar story of the transfigura-tion. Peter, James, and John were awe struck by the ap-pearance of Jesus and by the words that the voice of God spoke: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." Listen to Him. This message is for us. Pray for the grace to be open to God’s word, to be transfigured into a courageous messenger of God’s love.

Readings for March 15, 2020

Third Sunday of Lent

First Reading Exodus 17:3-7 Responsorial Psalm Psalms 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9 Second Reading Romans 5:1-2, 5-8 Gospel John 4:5-42

We meet the Samaritan woman in today’s Gospel. Her con-versation with Jesus put her on the ‘fast track’ to self-searching and repentance. Her conversation with Jesus transformed her into a great evangelizer: “Many of the Sa-maritans of that town began to believe in him because of the word of the woman who testified, ‘He told me everything I have done.’" This week consider how your prayer, fasting or almsgiving is transforming your life. Share what God has done for you with someone.

Next weekend, the Catholic Appeal will be launched in all

parishes throughout the Archdiocese. In preparation, we invite

you to prayerfully consider making a generous gift that will

benefit both our parish and the many ministries that serve the

283 parishes, 110 schools, and 144 communities throughout

the Archdiocese. Please take a moment today to look through

the Catholic Appeal insert to learn more about the meaningful

impact your gift will have. This is our Church, and when you

support the Appeal, you support us.

To learn more about the Catholic Appeal, or to make your

gift online, please visit the new Appeal website at bostonca-

tholicappeal.org, where you can also view the 2020 Catholic

Appeal video.

St Mary has a goal of $59,035 this year. We are almost at 10% of our parish goal so far for a total of $5375! Thank you! Just a reminder that if we do not achieve the goal set for our parish we must make up the difference and if we exceed the target we maintain a portion of the overage. Please prayerfully consider a contribution to the Catholic Appeal. For those of you who have not yet contributed, please find a donation form available in the back of the Church or visit our website at bostoncatholicappeal.org

NEW ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED

Boys and girls who are in Grade 4 and up (public & parochial school) are invited to serve God and Saint Mary Parish by becoming Altar Servers. Servers will be trained throughout

the year to assist the priest during the celebration of the Eucha-rist and at special liturgical celebrations. Recruitment and train-ing of servers takes place throughout year. Parents, please encourage your children to join the Altar Server ministry. Through this ministry, your children will learn to appreciate and participate more fully in the Eucharist. Father Shawn will meet with the prospective new servers on Saturday, March 21st, at 11 am in the upper church. Please call the rectory (781-665-0152) or email ([email protected]) to register or just come by on the 21st.

What Are You Giving Up?

What are You Doing More

of?

Family Activities for the Forty Days of Lent

Lent is a time of prayer, penance and sacrifice, a time for the entire family to be more attentive to the words of Jesus and to each oth-er. It is a time to try harder to put Christ’s teachings into practice. It is a time of concentrated effort toward the springtime of spiritual growth, or rebirth and renewal. It is a time when the whole Church goes on retreat for 6 weeks. It is a 40-day journey with Jesus. Lent means doing something as well as giving up something. Mosaic Cross Cut out a large cardboard cross and many squares of colored paper. During Lent, whenever a family member does a good deed or makes a sacrifice, he or she glues a square to the

cross. Try to cover the cross by Easter.

Pretzels had their origin in early Christian Lenten practices Be-cause fat, eggs, and milk were forbidden during Lent, a special

bread was made with dough consisting of only flour, salt, and wa-ter. These little breads were shaped in the form of arms crossed in prayer. Choose one night in Lent to make pretzels. Find a recipe

on the internet.

Spring Cleaning Renew a corner of your home: the attic, the gar-age, or the yard. Paint a room or clean out closets. Give unused toys and clothes to the poor. Hold a garage sale and donate the

profits to a charitable organization.

Give up “whining,” arguing,” “not listening,” or “bothering people who are on the phone.”

More ideas to come next week!
