Baptized with the Holy Spirit All three readings and the responsorial psalm for the second week of Advent give us directions on how to get ready for the coming of our Savior. Even the Collect tells us “may no earthly undertaking hinder those who set out in haste to meet your Son, but may our learning of heavenly wisdom gain us admittance to his company.” So, what does it mean to “set out in haste”? It means to do so with urgency or speed. Am I looking to meet our Lord with urgency? Is there a purpose to my urgency or am I running aimlessly? Advent gives us the opportunity to intentionally look to and for the Lord.
In the first reading, Isaiah is advising the people to “prepare the way of the Lord.” He tells of all the things that will happen when glory of the Lord is revealed. Valleys will be filled in, mountains will be made low, and the rugged land shall be made a plain. He urges people to shout the good news from the top of the mountain. How willing am I to shout the good news of our Savior? Do I even think about talking about God to others? This is our Advent wake‐up call. Isaiah is speaking to us as much as he was to the people of Jerusalem.
Our Responsorial Psalm says the Lord proclaims peace to his people. It is up to us to be the ones who live and encourage others to live that way in peace too. We can do this by our examples. This will also help us see the kindness of God in others.
St. Peter also talks about “conducting yourselves in holiness and devotion, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God”. Peter also reminds us that to the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. We can’t waste any time. We need to live the way God wants us to now!
John the Baptist is such a prominent person again in this week’s readings. He proclaimed, “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” We have been baptized with the Holy Spirit! What John said has been fulfilled for us. Now we must live that Baptismal promise. We need to live our lives as children of the Lord. We await the second coming of Christ and celebrate his first coming joyously. We must try to be in a constant state of readiness. We must make straight the path of the Lord. Advent can help us if we are attentive. Let us use this time wisely.

Our Weekly Reflection/Nuestra reflexión seminal Mrs. (Sra.) Terry Navarro
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception Tuesday, December 8, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. While it is a Holy Day of Obligation, due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, the obligation to attend Mass has been lifted for this year. We will have our 8:30 AM bilingual Mass and a 7:00 PM Mass in English.

The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe On Saturday, December 12, we will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We have planned all celebrations following the directives from the Archdiocese. We will celebrate Mananitas from 5:00 AM ‐ 7:00 AM. It will be in the form of a procession. The church doors will open at 5:00 AM. People will be allowed into the church to process through the church and out. Families and individuals must keep 6 feet of distance between them as they slowly move around the church. Recorded Mariachi music will play as people process. People are encouraged to pray as they process, as we cannot allow anyone to sing or remain in church. Everyone must keep moving. We have scheduled 3 Masses for December 12. The 8:30 AM Mass will be bilingual. There will also be Masses in Spanish at 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM. You must call the rectory to make a reservation for Mass and you must pick your tickets up by Friday, December 11 at 7:00 PM. No tickets can be held at the door and no one will be allowed in without a ticket.
Entonces, ¿qué significa “partir a toda prisa”?
