The Rite of the Sacrament of Reconciliation Guide to Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation

Sometimes people are nervous about going to confession because they may be unsure with the procedure. Below I am outlining that procedure. However, I assure all of you that although there is a rite and prescribed way of going to confession, all priests will be ready to assist and guide anyone who wishes to confess.

Steps for Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation The person enters the confessional and is greeted by the priest. At the invitation of the priest they together make a sign of the cross. The priest says, “May the Lord be in your heart so that you may worthily

confess your sins.” The penitent tells when they made their last confession by saying these or

similar words, “Bless me father for I have sinned. My last confession was _____. These are my sins. The penitent confesses their sins beginning by confessing mortal sins if they have committed any and then whatever venial sins they wish to confess. They conclude with these or similar words. “I’m sorry for these sins and the sins of my whole life.”

The priest, if he wishes may say a few words, and then he will give you your penance.

Then the priest will absolve you with these words while extending his hand over your head or at least extending his right hand toward you.

God, the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection

of His Son has reconciled the world to Himself and sent the Holy

Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry

of the Church may God give you pardon and peace, and I

absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the

Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The penitent says: Amen The priest continues:

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is Good. The penitent says:

His mercy endures forever. The priest dismisses the penitent with the following words:

The Lord has freed you from your sins. Go in peace. Again if you are unsure when you enter the confessional, feel free to ask for help. Praised be Jesus Christ now and forever, Msgr. Eugene Lozinski

BOOK DRIVE FOR UGANDA

As part of her six week mission trip to

Kamuli, Uganda, Isabella Portner (’17) is

organizing a BOOK DRIVE. These Ugandan

students only get to see and practice reading

when the teacher writes on the chalk board,

and these schools would greatly benefit from

books that students could learn to read with. Her

group would be taking gently used books (level beginner

to 7th grade) and would take as many as you would wish

to donate. If you wish to help the children of Uganda,

please drop off your books at St. Mary's Catholic School

before May 1st. Thank you for your support!

the many opportunities to attend Mass/services throughout Holy Week and Easter. There are many wonderful opportunities to grow in your faith as a family!

SCRIP LOWERS TUITION

SCRIP provides two worthwhile benefits:

lowers your tuition AND supports St.

your everyday purchases AND pay less

for tuition while supporting your school? Does it pay off?

Yes, consistent use adds up. Families have received a

deduction as high as $800.00 annually using SCRIP on a

regular basis. We have SCRIP on-hand for many

businesses. SCRIP is also available to order online by

visiting our school website page “Support SMS.” SCRIP
