OUR MISSION STATEMENT
St. Mary's is a community of believers dedicated to the living worship of
God. As the only Catholic Church in Limestone County, our faith com-
munity reflects the ethnic diversity of the towns in which we live. We
gather to fulfill our mission as disciples of Jesus Christ: we hear His
Word, we celebrate the Sacraments and we witness His love to others.
Our Christian witness consists of sharing our spiritual gifts with the grace
of God and the example and prayers of our patron saint, the Immaculate
Conception, among us and with others - striving to grow in Holiness.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - This week the Scriptures call us to be “a light to the nations.” This requires conversion – a change of
heart which ends the kind of false righteousness Paul found in the
church in Corinth. We are called from our vision to God’s vision, and
we need to be ready and willing to change our perspectives, our deci-
sions, and our lives, for the sake of the kingdom so that the light of
God’s glory will shine brightly in our midst. What might need to
change in us so we can be a light to others?
Estamos llamados a ir
de nuestra visión a la visión de Dios, y necesitamos estar listos y dis-
puestos a cambiar nuestras perspectivas, nuestras decisiones y nues-
tras vidas por el bien del Reino de manera que la luz de la gloria de
Dios brille con fuerza en medio de nosotros ¿Qué puede ser que nece-
site cambiar en nosotros de manera que podamos ser luz para otros?

How Assured is Assurance?
The belief that one cannot lose their salvation is certainly an attractive one. But what is more important
than the attractiveness of a belief is its truth. And the simple fact is, if we are going to go by what the Bible
teaches, we must acknowledge that salvation, once accepted, can also be rejected. John 10:28 states, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out
of my hand.” What this means is precisely what it says; since Jesus protects us (his sheep), no one, including Sa-
tan himself, has the power to snatch us out of his hand. But it does not say that we cannot or will not choose to
reject salvation offered us and jump out of his hand. Indeed, elsewhere in Scripture it says we can do just that:
For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overpowered, the last state has become worse for them than the
first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it
to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. It has happened to them according to the true prov-
erb. The dog turns back to his own vomit, and the sow is washed only to wallow in the mire (2 Peter 2:20).
Now I remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you indeed received and in which you
also stand. Through it you were also being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you, unless you be-
lieved in vain (1 Corinthians 15:1-2).
And you who once were alienated and hostile in mind because of evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his
fleshly body through his death, to present you holy, without blemish, and irreproachable before him, provided that
you persevere in the faith, firmly grounded, stable, and not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard,
which has been preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, am a minister (Colossians 1: 21-23).
For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened and tasted the heavenly gift and
shared in the Holy Spirit and tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen
away, to bring them to repentance again, since they are recrucifying the Son of God and the powers of the age to
come ( Hebrews 6:4-6).
Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into
prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful until death, and I will
give you the crown of life (Revelation 2:10).
How assured is absolute assurance? Not at all! We all have a free will and we must persevere to the end.
For the crown awaits those who does the will of the Father in Heaven.
