From the Pastor’s Desk

Lent is about turning back to the Lord with all our heart. One of the best ways (or even THE best way) we can do this is by receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation (or Confession).

Jesus gave us this sacrament when he breathed on the Apostles saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (Jn 20:22-23). With these words, Jesus entrusted his chosen disciples with a share in his own ministry of forgiving sins. This power to forgive sins has been passed on to the priests of our own time through the sacrament of Holy Orders.

While confession isn’t always the easiest thing to do, it is a gift greater than we can imagine. The fact that God has given mere human beings the authority to cleanse souls of their sins is something that astounds even the angels. The reason we aren’t shocked by it is that it seems so ordinary. But hiddenness seems to be God’s preferred way of distributing his riches.

Even if you haven’t been to confession for 10, 20, or 40+ years, we wholeheartedly encourage you to go this Lent. Just think of how good you’ll feel afterward! As the Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “Reconciliation is usually followed by peace and serenity of conscience with strong spiritual consolation” (#1468). We will have “how to” confession guides available, but even if you don’t know what to say, just say so and the priest will help you.

Our before-Mass confession times during lent are: Nativity in Cleveland – Saturdays 3-3:45pm St. Mary in Le Center – Saturdays 3:15-4:15pm Immaculate Conception in Marysburg – Saturdays 5:15-5:45pm St. Henry in St. Henry – Sundays 7:15am-7:45am

Please contact Gloria, [email protected] (or call the parish office 357-6633) by Monday, March 23 with dates that you are unable to serve for the May 1-August 31, 2020 ministry schedule. This schedule includes Mother’s Day (May 10), Memorial Day (May 25), Father’s Day (June 21), Parish Festival (June 28) & July 4. August 15, The Assumption of Mary, is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year. However, we will have a 9AM Mass on Saturday, August 15. Dates that you can not serve are entered into the ministry scheduling software.

Without that information you may be scheduled on dates that you are not available. If you are able to serve on any of the above dates, that is also very helpful. Thank you!

If you have been thinking about joining the Liturgical Ministry Team as a Lector, Usher, or Eucharistic Minister, now would be the time as we put together the May-August schedule. If you should have any questions or would like some training, feel free to contact the parish office or talk with one of the priests. Has God given you a talent to serve His church with?

St. Mary Calvary Cemetery Maintenance and Beautification Projects

For more details on these projects, please see the display boards at the entrances of the church.

To give to this project we have placed envelopes in the church entrances. Your donation can then be dropped in the Sunday collection basket or at the Parish Office. If you don’t have a cemetery giving envelope, you can indicate on your check memo line “Cemetery Project” or place in an envelope marked the same. Feel free to indicate if you’d like your donation to go to the statue or the roads or both. Gifts of any amount are welcome - Thank you!
