RISKING BODY AND BLOOD

"This is the blood of the covenant." —Exodus 24:8

The Last Supper was held in seclusion under the threat of persecution. To keep away those who might disrupt the Last Supper, Jesus arranged for a divine combination of circumstances — a man carrying a water jar was the unsuspecting guide to the home in which the Last Supper was to be eaten (Mk 14:13ff). Throughout the history of the Church, there has been persecution facing those who worship Jesus in Holy Mass. When persecuted in Rome, the early Church held Mass deep in the catacombs under the city. People were mar-tyred if caught at these Masses. Some Catholics in China walk thirty miles to receive the Eucharist. If caught, they risk being put to death. In England dur-ing the persecution of Catholics, priests were hidden inside the walls of hous-es. Masses were held in secret rooms. Many people who attended were caught and brutally martyred. In America and many other countries of the world, we are at present able to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist freely, at least at the time of this writing. Attacks on religious freedom and the Catholic Church may be a portent of persecution to come. Jesus gave His life, that is, His Body and Blood, so that we could receive Him in the Eucharist. If you knew you could be killed walking into the door of Church today, would you still risk your life to receive His Body and Blood?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, this is my body, to be given up for You. Make me a missionary of the Eucharist so as to lead as many as possible to eucharistic love and wor-ship. Promise: "...how much more will the blood of Christ, Who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself up unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God!" —Heb 9:14

Praise: "Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore! O, make us love Thee more and more."

Have you noticed the New

Colorful Choir Robes??

The choir is an opportunity for involvement. A church’s ministry is only as effective as the people in its

congregation who choose to get involved. As an exten-sion of the pulpit and a reflection of Heaven, the robes

are a reverent part of our mass . The choir is raising $3,000.00 to pay for the robes.

EXCHANGING PEACE IN CHRIST

The salutation, “peace be with you,” was inspired by Jesus Christ’s words upon seeing his disciples during his resurrec-tion. Here’s the story from Luke 24:35-48: 35 Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread. The Appearance to the Disciples in Jerusalem. 36 [a]While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 37 But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. 38 Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? 39 [b]Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” 40 And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of baked fish; 43 he took it and ate it in front of them. 44 He said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures. 46 [c]And he said to them, “Thus it is written that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day 47 and that repentance, for the for-giveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things.

So what does “peace be with you” mean in Catholic Mass? Simply put, the “sign of the peace” is meant to remind us that we cannot become one with the Lord unless we rec-ognize him in the people around us.

GETTING INVOLVED: MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS

Share a Meal. Share a Meal is a weekly meal prepared

and served by local churches, businesses, civic groups

and individual volunteers to people in the Broward

County area. A nutritious meal and fellowship is

provided, free of charge, to anyone who wishes to

attend.

We meet monthly in the Social Hall and make a meal

then we pack it up and take it to a local shelter, and

serve to the hungry.

Adults and children are part of this ministry serving

people from all walks of life. The meal we serve may

be the first hot meal they have had in a few days.

Because of our

Greeter Ministry

Do you have a loving heart and welcoming spirit, and

are a practicing Catholic of faith and prayer? Join the

Greeter Ministry!

At St. Maurice at Resurrection, greeters are the front line

of our church’s hospitality ministry, helping parishioners &

visitors as they enter and leave the church.

In addition to offering a friendly welcoming presence to

those coming to worship, greeters are available to

answer any questions parishioners may have about the

liturgy or the parish. If unable to answer directly, greeters

can find the information or assist by forwarding inquiries

to the appropriate resource.

Members of the Greeter Ministry arrive at church 20

minutes prior to mass, and should be familiar with

often-asked areas of the church: CCD class locations,

etc.

Greeters are a part of

every regularly scheduled

weekend mass, as well as

masses offered during the

Christmas and Easter

Season.

Who is eligible to be a

part of this ministry?

Nearly anyone! If you’re

someone who is

dependable, responsible,

flexible, and has a gift for

hospitality, service, or

evangelization, this ministry is great for you! Individuals,

couples, and even families may serve as greeters. Join us!

For more info on the Greeter Ministry, contact Rose de
