Sunday, June 1, 2014 To all who are present with us this morning, Welcome! Thank You for being here. Please join us for coffee and... in the Fellowship Hall following the Divine Liturgy. You May Find the Text of the Divine Liturgy beginning on the bottom page 91 of the Service Book (gold embossed cross on the reddish brown cover) or in the green-spiral-bound book; sheet music can be found in the 8.5x 11large, spiral-bound booklet. At the Kiss of Peace, our practice is for each of us to greet the person to our right and left with the bowing of our head, hands held in a prayerful clasp or crossed on the chest, while offering each other the seasonal Christian Paschal greeting, Christ is risen!and responding, Indeed, He is risen! Please remember that Holy Communion is reserved for those Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have appropriately prepared themselves through prayer, fasting and Confession to receive the Holy Mysteries of the Church. The bread (antidoron, which means in placeof the gifts) which we share after Communion and at the end of the Liturgy is for all. Being mindful we are in church, let us always remember to ...be quiet and attentive. Let us sing, pray, stand., sit, kneel and respond where responses are indicated. Let us not talk, look around, text message, play games, etc. Especially let us work at this in the Communion line and when in line to venerate the Cross and depart. If we cannot hear the post-Communion prayers being chanted during our church departure, we are way too noisy. ...refrain from eating, drinking or chewing gum (most obviously and especially if you will be receiving Holy Communion). ...stay put. • Sunday, June 1, 2014 To all who are present with us this morning,

Welcome! Thank You for being here. Please join us for coffee and...

in the Fellowship Hall following the Divine Liturgy.

You May Find the Text of the Divine Liturgy beginning on the bottom page 91 of the Service Book (gold embossed cross on the reddish brown cover) or in the green-spiral-bound book; sheet music can be found in the 8.5” x 11” large, spiral-bound booklet.

At the Kiss of Peace, our practice is for each of us to greet the person to our right and left with the bowing of our head, hands held in a prayerful clasp or crossed on the chest, while offering each other the seasonal Christian Paschal greeting, “Christ is risen!” and responding, “Indeed, He is risen!”

Please remember that Holy Communion is reserved for those Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have appropriately prepared themselves through prayer, fasting and Confession to receive the Holy Mysteries of the Church. The bread (anti’doron, which means ’in place’ of the gifts) which we share after Communion and at the end of the Liturgy is for all.

Being mindful we are in church, let us always remember to… ...be quiet and attentive. Let us sing, pray, stand., sit, kneel and respond where

responses are indicated.

Except in rare cases, there are few of us who cannot stay in one location for two hours (actually less, for most of us).

The Reading from the Acts of the Apostles (20:16-18, 28-36)

I N THOSE DAYS, Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost. And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called to him the elders of the church. And when they came to him, he said to them: “Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God which he obtained with the blood of his own Son. I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears. And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. I coveted no one's silver or gold or apparel. You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities, and to those who were with me. In all things I have shown you that by so toiling one must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” And when he had spoken thus, he knelt down and prayed with them all. _____________________________________________________________

  • The Holy Gospel According to St. John (17:1-13)

A T THAT TIME, Jesus lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify thy Son that the Son may glorify thee, since thou hast given him power over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him. And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. I glorified thee on earth, having accomplished the work which thou gavest me to do; and now, Father, glorify thou me in thy own presence with the glory which I had with thee before the world was made.

“I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou gavest me out of the world; thine they were, and thou gavest them to me, and they have kept thy word. Now they know that everything that thou hast given me is from thee; for I have given them the words which thou gavest me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from thee; and they have believed that thou didst send me. I am praying for them; I am not praying for the world but for those whom thou hast given me, for they are thine; all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name, which thou hast given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in thy name, which thou hast given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.” ___________________________________________________________

IOCC UPDATES... 1. Thank you for your support of the Syrian Relief Dinner and the people who will be served through this IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) event which was held on April 5 or this year.

◊ approximately 400 people attended ◊ gross revenues were $36,761 ◊ expenses were $1,198 ◊ net dollars sent to IOCC for Syrian Relief - $35,563 Note: The expenses were very low because many people and organizations donated their time, facilities, and resources (many people helped to make food, and purchase supplies). This allowed us to sent the maximum amount of funds through to IOCC. These numbers only include reimbursed expenses. IOCC has historically been able to leverage donations received by 7 to 1. This means that this small gathering of Orthodox Christians in Pittsburgh will have enable IOCC to deliver almost $250,000 worth of aid to Syria. Glory be to God.

    2. The need is great in the aftermath of devastating floods in Serbia. Today and next Sunday (June 1 and 8), donations will be accepted for Serbian Flood Relief. Make your check out to “St. Michael’s Church,” with notation indicating “IOCC-Serbian Flood Relief.” One check will be sent to IOCC once collections have been received on those days. http://www.iocc.org/news/5-19-14balkans-flooding.aspx http://www.iocc.org/news/5-16-14balkans-flooding.aspx ____________________________________________________________

  • “Food on the Hill” Lunch Ministry “Food on the Hill” is the name that has been attached to the lunch for those

in need that will be prepared and served free of charge on the first Tuesday of each month (beginning in April). Our Men’s Fellowship has decided to take on the work of providing a bit of “daily” bread to those who can benefit from it.

The next “Food on the Hill” lunch is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.

Anyone who would like to support “Food on the Hill” in any capacity you would like, should contact Dan Davis (724-237-2064) or Gus Flizanes (724-863-4443). Please make checks out to “St. Michael’s Church” with “Food on the Hill” on the memo line.

FEAST TREE Each “Leaf” is a tag for an item needed to support the annual Feast. Select a tag (or two), purchase the item listed-usually under $5 – and deposit your donations under the tree in the hallway. Buy when the item goes on sale or shop the “Dollar” stores. Simple things such as flour and sugar to help with baking preparations, dish detergent for clean-up, and pop and water are just some of the items needed. See Treegrower Mary Haiden for more details.

ANTIOCHIAN WOMEN’S NEWS Our Feast Baking has resumed. We need any help you can offer. On most Thursdays you can find us baking at the church. Come and help! There is a job for you. Specifically, we can also use some one who can manage our e-mail list that we continue to compile. We can also use a couple people who can be “shoppers,” going to designated stores to pick up food and supplies that we have ordered. See Sara Armanious and Valerie Flizanes if you can do either of these jobs. ________________________________________________________
