Sunday, April 17, 2016 To all who are present with us this morning, Welcome! Thank you for being here. Please join us for coffee and... in the Fellowship Hall following Divine Liturgy. You May Find the Text of the Divine Liturgy beginning on the bottom page 91 of the Service Book (gold embossed cross on the reddish brown cover) or in the green- spiral-bound book; sheet music can be found in the 8.5x 11large, spiral-bound booklet. At the Kiss of Peace our practice is for each of us to greet the person to our right and left with the bowing of our head, hands held in a prayerful clasp or crossed on the chest, while offering each other the Christian greeting, Christ is born!and responding, Glorify Him!Please remember that Holy Communion is reserved for those Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have appropriately prepared themselves through prayer, fasting and Confession to receive the Holy Mysteries of the Church. The bread (antidoron, which means in placeof the gifts) which we share after Communion and at the end of the Liturgy is for all. Being mindful we are in church, let us always remember to ...be quiet and attentive. Let us sing, pray, stand, sit, kneel and respond where responses are indicated. Let us not talk, look around, text message, play games, etc. Especially let us work at this in the Communion line and when in line to venerate the Cross and depart. If we cannot hear the post-Communion prayers being chanted during our church departure, we are way too noisy. ...refrain from eating, drinking or chewing gum. (most obviously and especially if you will be receiving Holy Communion). ...stay put. Sunday, April 17, 2016 To all who are present with us this morning,

Welcome! Thank you for being here. Please join us for coffee and...

in the Fellowship Hall following Divine Liturgy.

You May Find the Text of the Divine Liturgy beginning on the bottom page 91 of the Service Book (gold embossed cross on the reddish brown cover) or in the green-spiral-bound book; sheet music can be found in the 8.5” x 11” large, spiral-bound booklet.

At the Kiss of Peace our practice is for each of us to greet the person to our right and left with the bowing of our head, hands held in a prayerful clasp or crossed on the chest, while offering each other the Christian greeting, “Christ is born!” and responding, “Glorify Him!”

Please remember that Holy Communion is reserved for those Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have appropriately prepared themselves through prayer, fasting and Confession to receive the Holy Mysteries of the Church. The bread (anti’doron, which means ‘in place’ of the gifts) which we share after Communion and at the end of the Liturgy is for all.

Being mindful we are in church, let us always remember to… ...be quiet and attentive. Let us sing, pray, stand, sit, kneel and respond where

responses are indicated.

Except in rare cases, there are few of us who cannot stay in one location for two hours (actually less, for most of us).

The Mission of Our Church The mission of St Michael’s Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church is to tend the flock of our Lord Jesus Christ and to spread the Good News of Christ to those outside the flock. This mission is to be accomplished by a) living a full liturgical and sacramental life, b) proclaiming the Orthodox Christian faith to all people, c) providing effective charitable and social programs, and d) establishing strong spiritual leadership and resources.

Sunday, April 17, 2016 Greeting: Christ is in our midst! Response: He is and shall be!

THE EPISTLE READING St. Paul to the Hebrews (9:11-14)

B RETHREN, when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation), He entered once

for all into the Holy Place, taking not the blood of goats and calves but His own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, Who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

THE HOLY GOSPEL According to St. Mark (10:32-45)

A T THAT TIME, Jesus took His twelve Disciples, and began to tell them what was to happen to Him, saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of man will be delivered to the chief

priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles. And they will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit upon Him, and kill Him; and after three days He will rise.” And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to Him, and said to Him, “Teacher, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire” And Jesus said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?” And they said to Him, “Grant us to sit, one at Thy right hand and one at Thy left, in Thy glory.” But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” And they said to Him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized. But to sit at My right hand or at My left is not Mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. And Jesus called them to Him and said to them, “You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be servant of all. For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” __________________________________________________________

BOOKSTORE STUFF The Bookstore Gift Shop has two new wall crosses with the Jesus Prayer and Prayer of St. Ephraim on display on the center bulletin board in the social hall. Place you order today — they make a nice Pascha gift. Do you need a new Pascha food basket cover? Several beautiful imports are available. Where? In the Bookstore. New sleeves for eggs are also there and red dye is on the way. When the aforementioned red dye does arrive, we need people to color red a dozen or two of eggs and bring them to church for distribution at the end of the Paschal Divine Liturgy, early, early Easter Sunday morning.

Food For Hungry People boxes are assembled and ready to b e picked up at the office window in the main hallway.

If you have not yet done so, take a box home, fill it, and return it to Joyce Eger, for the sake of hungry people around the world.

CALEB’S CUPBOARD, the big chest you see as you come through the main entrance of our church, is a simple way to help our hungry neighbors. Just bring in a few cans of food or other non- perishables when you come to church and you will be making a difference for someone.

Please check that the goods you bring are “reasonably” close in time to the expiration date. (While we know the food lasts longer than that date, it is not always easy to tell how much longer.)

OUR CHURCH SCHOOL IS SUPPORTING A MODEST LITURGICAL GOAL for this Paschal Season — to instill some energy and attendance into the Easter Day Agape Vespers Service. The unique nature of this Vespers is best noted in there being a Resurrection Gospel Reading in many languages — English, Greek, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, to name a few that have all carried the message of Christ’s resurrection in past years. Another unique feature of this service is the Easter Egg (Candy) Hunt that follows in the church. Agape Vespers begins at 11 AM on Easter Sunday, May 1.

FOR A LITTLE PERSPECTIVE—What if there were a $10,000 gift for each Holy Week Service anyone attended? Would we have enough space to accommodate the crowd? In Truth, the reward is infinitely greater for those who long to receive It. May God grant us that desire this year. Make the Church’s Holy Week Calendar your personal calendar this year.
