Reflection

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, Let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope; And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

To be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand;

To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive,

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born to external life.

- Attributed to St. Francis of Assisi

St. Pius of Pietrelcina

St. Padre Pio was an Italian priest who was known for his piety and charity, as well as the gift of the stigmata, which has never been explained. St. Padre Pio was born Francesco Forgione, on May 25, 1887, in Pietrelcina, Italy. His parents were peasant farmers. He had an older brother and three younger sisters, as well as two other siblings who died in infancy. As a child, he was very religious and by the age of five he reportedly made the decision to dedicate his life to God. Fortunately, his parents were also very religious and they supported his Catholic development. His family attended daily Mass. Francisco served as an altar boy at his local parish. Francisco was known for taking on penances and his mother once scolded him for sleeping on a stone floor. From his tender age, Francisco had a peculiar ability. He could see guardian angels, spoke with Jesus and the Virgin Mary. This was not something taught to him, but occurred so naturally that he assumed other people could see them too. Padre Pio became internationally famous. He was known for his piety, charity and the quality of his preaching. He famously advised, "Pray, hope and don't worry." He had other illnesses, as well, including cancer which was miraculously healed after just two

treatments. Other problems, such as arthritis, which plagued him in his later years, never went away. Padre Pio died on September 23, 1968. His funeral was attended by over 100,000 people. Pope John Paul II recognized Padre Pio as a saint on June 16, 2002. His feast day is September 23. He is the patron of civil defense volunteers, adolescents, and the village of Pietrelcina.

Saint of the Day for September 29

Angels—messengers from God—appear frequently in Scripture, but only Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are named. Each of the archangels performs a different mission in Scripture: Michael protects; Gabriel announces; Raphael guides.

Earlier belief that inexplicable events were due to the actions of spiritual beings has given way to a scientific world-view and a different sense of cause and effect. Yet believers still experience God’s protection, communication, and guidance in ways which defy description. We cannot dismiss angels too lightly.

Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael are the Patron Saints of: Death, Germany, Grocers, Police Officers, Radiologists

Saint Gabriel is the Patron Saint of:

Saint Raphael is the Patron Saint of: The Blind

Respect Life 13th Annual Baby Bottle Campaign – Next Sunday,

October 1st is Respect Life Sunday and we will have baby bottles in the Narthex for you to take home, fill with change

and return by October 27th. All the proceeds will go to Birthright of Peekskill and Good Counsel Homes equally. New York State Court of Appeals unanimously rules

against Assisted Suicide – We congratulate the Court which affirmed that N. Y. State’s existing laws against physician assisted suicide are constitutional. Therefore, there is no

“right” to suicide in N. Y. This does not mean that assisted suicide cannot be passed legislatively. We will keep you up

to date on efforts to pass such laws next year when the Legislature reconvenes. Pray that life will be respected from

conception until natural death.

Thank you

Thank you to Ms. Connie Mazzola and Mrs. Theresa Wissell for their donation to purchase new

Collection Baskets.

SYNOPSIS IN ENGLISH First: The Prayer Group invites our entire community to its praise and thanksgiving meetings every Friday at 7:30pm in the

Third: We all are cordially invited to attend this event after the Spanish Mass that will be held at 741 Route 6 Mahopac NY 10541

Ask Sr. Rose What are the Theological Virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity

Faith - A gift given by God, enables us to believe in God and believe in all that He has said

and revealed to us, including all that the Church teaches. (Symbol of Faith – The Cross)

Hope - A gift given by God enables us to determine external happiness and to trust in Christ and His promises to obtain it.

(Symbol of Hope - Anchor) Charity –A gift given by God, enables us to love God above all things for His own sake and

our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God. (Symbol of Charity- The Heart of Christ)
