“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth”

    — Colossians 3:2

Do you put God first in all things? Posses-sions, money, power, ego can easily become

gods to many of us. Do a quick check of what is important to you. Is God at the very top of the list? If not, your priorities need to be re-adjusted. Don’t let earthly things be-

come a god before God. This is also the first commandment — I am the Lord your God, you shall not have any strange gods before me.

Dear Parishioners; ♦ The President extended the restrictions related to the

coronavirus pandemic at least until the end of April 2020, in an attempt to slow down the spread of the disease and to reduce the number of people who get sick from it, so as not to overwhelm hospitals. All the following provisions are being done out of devotion to the common good, and to give good example, contributing to the solution, not to the problem.

♦ The Parish Office is open; however, the door to the offices will be closed. If you come to the office, please knock on the door and we will come to your assistance.

♦ While the celebration of public Masses is suspended and the obligation to attend Mass has been dispensed by Cardinal DiNardo, we are still obligated by the 3rd Commandment to “keep holy the Sabbath day.” We can do so by dedicating Sundays as a time of personal prayer, the reading of Sacred Scripture, the holy rosary, Divine Mercy chaplet, etc. We can unite ourselves to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass by making a Spiritual Communion and praying the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass along with a televised Mass or live-streamed Mass on the internet. Go to the website: https://needvillecatholic.com under the Worship tab. Click on Word on Fire Daily Mass and see the video module to view daily Mass from Bishop Robert Barron’s Chapel or on the Home Page click on the link for a list of churches in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston who are offering live streaming masses.

♦ St. Michael’s Church & Sts. Cyril & Methodius will be open for private & personal prayer. (See dates and times under “This Week in Our Parish”.) Jesus will still be present in the tabernacle in the Most Holy Sacra-ment! All we ask is that you maintain a 6 foot distance between you and anyone else who may be in the church.

♦ If you would like to have Holy Water at your home, please bring a small container to the St. Michael’s Parish Office during Office Hours and Father will bless it. Also, 6 day candle inserts are available for a suggested donation of $3 each. You may also bring your own candles to be blessed.

♦ If you are unable to attend Mass to get a bulletin, you can sign up online to receive your bulletin electronically by the following link: https://ebulletin.jspaluch.com.

Let us pray daily for one another and for any and all who suffer in any way from the effect of COVID-19. Let us not forget that we were created by God to love Him first and foremost above all things and then to love our neighbors as ourselves. Fr. Marty & his staff are praying daily for you.

    May God bless us all!

As people of hope, we know we have a future beyond this crisis. At this time of pandemic, we, the Catholic bishops of Texas, place our hope in the Lord and invite all the faithful to do the same. We wait in joyful hope for the blessed day when the Church can return to the public celebration of the Mass with renewed appreciation for its divine beauty and power. We are grateful for the sacrifices all Texans are making for the common good. In a special way, we praise the dedicated efforts of medical personnel, first responders, caregivers, custodians, cashiers and clerks, family members, and charitable service volunteers. We celebrate and we are grateful for your efforts to protect one another as acts of agape, of genuine self-giving love. Through the grace of God, may our common sacrifice this Lent lead to new life in the victory of Christ. — Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops

CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOUR CHURCH Please do not forget to support your parish financially during this crisis. We are totally and completely dependent upon your weekly contributions.

For Needville parishioners: You can mail in your contribution enve-lopes (P.O. Box 95, Needville, TX 77461) or put them in the drop box outside the St. Michael’s parish office. For Damon parishioners: You can mail in your contribution enve-lopes (P.O. Box 309, Damon, TX 77430) or drop your donations in the St. Michael’s drop box. They will be sorted and given to the proper church for accounting and posting. Also, the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has set up an online giving for our parishes. You can go online to:

www.archgh.org/waystogive ► Click on red button ’Support Your Parish Offertory ► Brings you to the Parish Offertory Support Page► Choose your one time dona-tion. (100% of all donations will go toward your selected parish’s offertory.) ► In the drop down box select your parish ► Fill in the required information ► hit DONATE.

Thank you for your continued support of St. Michael’s and Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Churches. Any gift is extremely appreciated

as it supports not only our parish bills and other efforts, but also the employees and families that rely on our churches.

Our prayers are with you and your family to stay prayerful and safe.

This “fast” from Mass and sacraments does not show a lack of apprecia on for them. We need God. Prayer and worship are essen al prac ces of our faith in God, and they are ideally prac-

ced with others, not alone. But we have to be good stewards, prudent, careful not to contribute to the spread of disease.

Pray. Do penance. Give alms to the poor.

Pray to God for speedy deliverance from the evil of the corona-virus, for those who are sick, for those who care for the sick and elderly, for those who fear for their lives and livelihood, and that we might all remain calm and confident in God’s wisdom, power,

    and goodness.

Sts. Cyril & Methodius Parish Office Moved Due to the work being done on the Sts. Cyril & Methodius “Old Church”, we have temporarily re-located the Parish Office to St. Michael’s. All calls made to Sts. Cyril & Methodius will be for-warded or you may call St. Michael’s. The repair work should take around 4 months to complete.

Our Prayers and Condolences to... On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, our Lord called Cheryl Blakeslee from her earthly dwelling to be with Him forever. For years, she has given selflessly to help the less fortunate in our community through her works with our St. Vincent de Paul Society. Cheryl brought joy and hope to all who met her. She will be greatly missed. Services will be held at

a later date. We are asking everyone to pray a Rosary for the repose of her soul and to keep her family, friends and members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in your thoughts and prayers.

Prayer in the Time of the Coronavirus

Comfort us, O Lord, for we are like your disciples on the storm tossed seas, unsettled by what lies ahead.

We turn to You, our Healer and Guide, to still our hearts in our time of need and hear our prayer:

Heal those who are sick with the coronavirus and protect the elderly and most vulnerable.

Give strength to all who tend to our health and wisdom to researchers who work toward a cure.

Open our eyes and hearts, as you did during Hurricane Harvey, that we may look beyond our immediate needs to

care for others who need help.

Through the Holy Spirit, guide our leaders to make wise decisions for the welfare of all the people they serve.

Grant eternal rest to those who have died from the virus.

May Mary, Our Mother, who has heard our pleas in the storms of our lives,

Intercede to her Son, that we may find healing and a prompt end to this illness.

Mary, Star of the Sea, pray for us. Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, heal us.

You are making a difference every day!

Anyone wishing to learn how to prepare for Holy Week, please call Eileen or Kathleen to volunteer

As a parish, we are grateful to those parishioners who give of their time serving in a ministry during Mass. In recent months we have experienced a significant amount of liturgical minister no-shows. The ministry schedule is published in the bulletin the weekend prior to the first weekend of the next month. Be sure to notify the parish office at (979) 742-3383 of any known scheduling issues, such as vacations, business, etc. that would make you unavailable on a certain day or time period for the coming month, so the schedule may be prepared appropriately. Please report NO LATER than 15 minutes prior to the Mass start time. This will reduce the turmoil that arises in trying to find a replacement in such a very short notice. It is your responsibility to attempt to find a replacement when you are scheduled but cannot serve. A list of all the ministers and their phone numbers can be found in the Priest’s Sacristy. You can use this list to help find a replacement. If you are not assigned to help at Mass that day and would like to assist if needed, please check in before Mass begins. Appearance is important in the Church. We encourage you to always dress like you have come to do something important, that is, to worship God. That way if you need to fill in as a minister, you will be properly dressed. Thanks for doing what you are doing. It is a great service to the parish and all of the effort you make is deeply appreciated.

*If anyone is interested in volunteering for any of our ministries or have questions, please contact the Parish Office at (979) 742-3383.
