GOD CHOSE US

Who chose first, God or you? That is the question explored in today’s three readings. The second reading, from Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, reads almost like a hymn. It praises God for choosing us, for calling us to serve, and for blessing us in our service. Paul makes it clear how honored we are and how special is the call to live as children of God. This is through no doing of our own. The first reading and the Gospel use prose rather than poetry to describe the same truth: God did the choosing, not us. When the prophet Amos was berated for being a prophet, he retorted that the whole thing wasn’t his idea in the first place. Neither did the twelve apostles in today’s Gospel ask for their calling. Jesus sent them forth, two by two, to do the work of his kingdom.

Weekend of July 14/15, 2012

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Letter to the Ephesians relates to us that God, the Father

has established a divine plan to bring all of creation to Christ

and that He has blessed us with the divine gifts to help

implement that plan. Christian stewards know what their

gifts are and are committed to using them in the service of

the Lord. Do we know what our gifts are? Do we believe

that God has given us these gifts? Are we committed to

using our gifts to serve the Lord?

Thank you for your generous support of the essential work of the Holy Father and his charitable acts through the Peter’s Pence Collection. Our contributions will be combined with those of our brothers and sisters around the world to help Pope Benedict reach out to those in need. Your generosity will help to cast Christ’s peace upon the world.

From the Diocese of Monterey

My Dear Friends in Christ:

Through the Fortnight for Freedom (June 21 – July 4, 2012), we joined millions of

our Roman Catholic Brothers and Sisters as well as those of other faith traditions to pray to SAFEGUARD

religious rights and freedoms in our nation.

On July 4th, we celebrated the 236th year of the birth of this great nation. It was founded on the principles of

human rights which include, fundamentally, religious freedom. This nation was to be a safe haven for all to

practice every aspect of their faith traditions.

May God Bless us all with dignity, respect, freedom and love to carry his message to others.

Bishop Richard J. Garcia

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION ~ The Blessed Sacrament is taken

out of the tabernacle and the Lord, in His Eucharistic presence, is

placed on the altar in a glass vessel called a monstrance. We then have

the opportunity to sit with Jesus, and allow ourselves to be

completely open to Him. In the silence, we feel Him all around

us, and hear His voice. Our parish has Eucharistic Adoration

in the chapel every Friday from 12:30 - 5:30 pm.

escogió, no nosotros.

Words from Mother Teresa She lived her words: “Intense love does not measure, it just

gives.” “If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just

one.” Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, now

over 4,500 sisters active in 133 countries who adhere to vows of

poverty, chastity, obedience, and a fourth vow, to give "wholehearted

and free service to the poorest of the poor". The Missionaries of
