Update from North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: We are looking after each other’s safety and good health during

these days of the pandemic. It is our hope that working together,

we can stop the spread of this virus and join together in prayer

safely. This Announcement is a reminder for all of us. It remains

critically important for each of us to continue following the health

precautions. This includes:

• staying home when ill, even with mild symptoms;

• practicing physical distancing of 2 metres or 6 feet with those

outside your household or social circle;

• protecting your social circle;

• wearing a face covering/mask;

• washing your hands frequently and thoroughly; and

• adhering to gathering limits and rules.

The O. Reg 364/20 became law in the Province of Ontario on

October 2, 2020. This law requires that everyone attending the

place of worship (church) must wear a face covering the entire

time that they are indoors – this includes the celebrant, deacon, and

liturgical ministers. If a person has a health concern related to the

wearing of the face mask, the law provides for this exemption to be

respected. This time of uncertainty calls each one of us to renew

and amplify our Christian commitment to prayer, reflection,

prudent care of each other, and helping others. Let us continue to

pray for those who have died, those who are ill, those who work on

the front lines and serve our community, and the ongoing work of

medical researchers to discover a vaccine and a cure. May God

bless us and guide us.

Remember our beloved dead

November is usually the time where we especially remember our

beloved dead through prayers and offerings of Masses. ALL

SOULS’ DAY envelopes will be available next weekend at all

church exits for you to fill out. Masses are said for the souls in

purgatory for the entire month of November and thereafter. Drop

envelopes in the basket found in front of the altar. “May the souls

of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

Amen.

Readings Next Week- Oct. 31-Nov. 1st (All Saints Day) First Reading – Revelation 7.2-4, 9-14

Second Reading – 1 John 3.1-3

Gospel – Matthew 5.1-12a

Gospel Matthew 22.34-40 www.loyolapress.com

The Pharisees continue to test Jesus with a question about the

greatest commandment.

Gospel Reflection –

Our relationship with on another is both horizontal and vertical. It

is a relationship of love. The cross gives a demonstration of his

love. The horizontal part is towards our fellow human beings, and

the vertical is towards God. We love our God who is in Heaven,

and love our neighbours who are with us here on earth. Christ’s

answer to the Pharisees in the Gospel shows us that there are two

parts of the Ten Commandments. One part, the first three

commandments are directly on our relationship with God. The

second part, the remaining seven commandments are on our

relations hip with our fellow human beings. Whichever direction

we go, it is love that summarizes the whole Commandments. Love

the Lord your God with all your heart and will all your mind and

will all your soul; and love your neighbour as yourself. It means

loving God and loving others. Sometime some people have their

own understanding of the meaning of love. The understanding can

be driven by selfishness, any other ordinary human influence or

desire. Christ says that love is the summary of the law. Love comes

from God and God is love (1 John 4:7). We cannot remove God

from love, if we want to do the will of God. God is always first,

every love must stem from God. A catholic school teacher took a

survey of the meaning of love for her class. In the survey:

Karen – age 7 said: “When you love somebody, your eyelashes go

up and down and little stars come out of you.” (what an image).

MaryAnn – age 4 said “Love is when your puppy licks your face

even after you left him alone all day.”

Nikka – age 6 said “If you want to learn to love better, you should

start with a friend who you hate” (we need a few million more

Nikka’s on this planet).

Danny – age 7 said: “Love is when my mommy makes coffee for

my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure

the taste is okay.”

Terri – age 4 said: “Love is what makes you smile when you’re

tired.”

These are children’s ideas of love. And it goes to tell us that love is

practical in nature. You have to show it. The verses we read from

the Exodus sets us to love that is charity in tone. It covers some our

duties toward the poor in general; or to put it another way-those

who need our help. They are a practical application of the law of

charity in dealings with our neighbours. Love is not something we

can see or touch. It is something we can do. St. Paul said; “and

whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all the name of the

Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him”

(Colossians 3:17). Love as charity always looks towards God, for

the good of others. Let each of us ask ourselves how seriously we

take this love of fraternal charity and how faithfully we carry it out.

Not all of us may be able to give material help to somebody in

need, but the poorest of us can spare a kindly word, an encouraging

word, for a neighbour weighed down with cares and troubles. All

of us can pray for a neighbour who needs spiritual and temporal

help. Most of us can deny ourselves some unnecessary luxuries in

order to give a needed load of bread to a hungry fellow. Christian

love is a practical love. Let us pray God to nourish his spirit of love

in us always. (Homily-Fr. Placid)

Prayer Therapy

Be slow to speak, and only after having first

listened quietly, so that you may understand the

meaning , leanings and wishes of those who do

speak. Thus you will better know when to speak

and when to be silent. - St. Ignatius of Loyola
