Small very worn headstone decorated with cherub and wings. Much time was spent in trying to decipher this inscription. Bigland has written 'Giles Bridges', but the inscription appears to indicate 'Miles Bridges', the 'M' being in Gothic script. Bigland records that Ann was the 'late' wife of Edmund Carpenter, but although the word is for the most part illegible, the inscription does support 'late'. The last digits of Ann's day and year date are


not decipherable on the stone so the inscription has been supplemented by Bigland's transcription. 'Edmund' Carpent appears on the memorial to read 'Edmand' although the lettering is faint. This memorial appears to have been moved since 1914 when the grave plan was drawn. It is now set next to and to the south of plot 206. There was once a large tree nearby; its original position and maybe its removal may be connected to the memorial’s present position. There are various discrepancies between our version and that of Ralph Bigland (Bigland's Monumental Inscriptions of Gloucestershire 1791). There are a few doubtful characters, however our version is an accurate transcription of the original. The surface of the north side has been repaired.
