pulpit announcements and bulletin submissions. Please submit pulpit announcements to Carol Schubert

([email protected]; 630-628-0900 x104) no later than the Wednesday preceding the desired weekend. Please send bulletin submissions to Barb Nicolai ([email protected]; 630-543-1754) a week prior

Easter changes everything. Having been raised from the dead, Jesus shatters the frightful images that haunt humanity. Betrayal, torture, crucifixion, death, burial--these terrors pale in the brilliant glory of Jesus resurrected. Today’s psalm guides our response to God’s power: “it is wonderful in our eyes.” Today is indeed a day for wonder, for gasping in astonishment at Jesus’ resurrection. For all of human history, death had been final. In the Acts of the Apostles, though, Peter testifies that Jesus, who was publicly executed, was raised to life

by God. John’s Gospel admits that the disciples “did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.” Even Jesus’ closest friends were not expecting this innovation: life after death. In response to the Easter miracle, Paul tells us to become “a fresh batch of dough.” Everything, even our very selves, must become new. Easter changes everything. Copyright (c) J. S. Peter and the Beloved Disciple race to the tomb and once they arrive find it empty except for the burial cloths. These trappings of death lie in the tomb but the body they swaddled is nowhere to be found. These mysterious happenings hint that they store of Jesus’ life is not over, but the disciples “[do] not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.” Today we gather with cries of “Alleluia, He is risen!” But the question remains for us, do we, even now, nearly two thousand years after the event, understand the rising from the dead? Surely, it defies understanding. How can

one who has been confirmed dead and lain within a tomb for three days be “raised?” How can life return stronger than death? And yet, we are resurrection people, called to proclaim the death and resurrection of Christ in our words, actions, and very being. If we truly believe in this audacious event it changes everything. Even people who live alone can have fulfillment in life. To many of them Jesus shows a special way; he invites them to remain unmarried “for the sake of the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 19:12). [1618-1620]

We would like to get a count by Easter. Thank you!

Easter Sunday ranks first of all the feasts. This day, above all others, is for us to give thanks for all God has done for us--but every Sunday is a celebration of Easter as we celebrate the life, passion, death, and Resurrection of Jesus. Every Sunday we come to Mass to celebrate the sacrifice that Jesus made for us when he died on the cross and rose from the dead to save us from death to sin. Jesus freely gave his human life 2,000 years ago so you and I could receive the benefit of that sacrifice today. Every

time we receive the Eucharist we become a part of the Paschal mystery. We offer all that we are to God and rise to new life in Jesus when we take his body and blood poured out for us, so we may live in Him and He in us. Last night at the Easter Vigil, Julio Solares and Alexander Dobrovetsky received the Sacrament of Baptism. Eduardo Morales and Nyles Nykasa were brought into full communion with the Church through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. These four men went through the RCIA process so they may also enjoy New Life in Christ, as we do. They are now fully-initiated members of the faith we all share. Yesterday they received all God offers us every day as His beloved children who live in the light of His truth. Please pray for them and all who were received into the Church this weekend.
