St. Philomena College has just recently celebrated its illustrious contributions,
during 2007-08, the Golden Jubilee Year of its noble educational services. The
College was founded in the year 1958 by a great visionary and zealous missionary,
Msgr. Antony Patrao. Since its inception, the College has been growing steadily
without compromising on the quality of its educational services. It is governed by
the Catholic Board of Education (CBE) of the Diocese of Mangalore presided by
Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore.

St. Philomena College is located in Puttur which is 50 Km away from
Mangalore City. The college is well - connected by road and railway facilities. It has

Mangalore University or any other University with Physics as major / optional /

l I & II Semester will be common to all the students and they will also do common

3. Students should mark five choices for the subject and choices of the institutions in the
order of preference before the end of 2nd Semester. Allotment of papers/colleges will be
done on the basis of merit of the 1st semester exam marks and the choice of the student
subject to availability.
4. The choice of the paper shall be within the faculty or across the faculty but not one offered
by the course they are presently studying.
5. The choices offered by the students once can not be altered.
6. Students will take the examination at the institution in which they are studying the choice
based papers.
7. The classes of the choice based paper will be held for the students in such allotted colleges
on Saturdays.
8. The choice based paper will carry the same pattern of marks of other main subjects
(70+30).
ADMISSION PROCEDURE :
Meritorious students desirous of admission to the PG Programme may obtain the
prescribed application form and the prospectus from the Administrative Office of the St.
Philomena College, Puttur - 574 202, Karnataka, either in person or by post, paying the
specified cost through a Demand Draft payable to the Principal, St. Philomena College, Puttur
- 574 202, subsequent to the notification for admissions. As a routine, application forms will
be available for purchase from the month of May, every year The duly filled in application
form, along with attested copies of marks cards and other documents, must be submitted at
the office of the Principal of St. Philomena College, either in person or by post, on or before
the date mentioned in the form itself. The College will not be responsible for any delay in
receipt or non-receipt of the applications sent by the students who themselves must ensure
the submission of application on time.
THE STUDENTS SHALL KEEP WITH THEM SUFFICIENT ATTESTED XEROX
COPIES OF THEIR ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS / CERTIFICATES
The following documents should be attested and enclosed with the application at the
time of its submission :
1. One photo copy of the SSLC certificate as a proof of age / date of birth.
2. One photo copy of the statement of marks of all the qualifying examinations.
3. One photo copy of the Conduct & Character Certificate issued by the previous College of
Study.
4. One photo copy of the Transfer Certificate for students from Colleges under Mangalore
University.

Candidates selected for admission after a scrutiny of the application and
attested copies of all the enclosed documents thus received, will be called for a
personal interview with the Principal. Validity of admission is subject to the fulfillment
of all eligibility requirements specified in the rules, regulations and prevailing orders
of the Mangalore University and the Government of Karnataka, the full payment of
prescribed fees, the submission of all original certificates and other documents
(including Migration and Eligibility Certificates, wherever applicable), 3 passport size
photos and the acceptance of rules and regulations of St. Philomena College, Puttur.
Students referred by the University / Government for admission to seats
belonging to Government Quota must submit the official order for admission along
with all original documents listed above, with the (college) copy of receipt of payment
of fees, in person. None the less, they too must submit a duly filled-up prescribed
application from the College, finalizing the formalities for admission to St. Philomena
College.
RULES & REGULATIONS GENERAL :
l The college is open to all the students with requisite qualification for admission
without distinction of caste or creed.
l Class Hours: 9-30 a.m. to 4-30p.m., However, classes may commence earlier than
9-30 a.m. and go beyond 4-30 p.m., if the situation demands.
l Students are required to be in their respective class rooms when a warning bell is
sounded 5 minutes before the commencement of classes in both the sessions.
l Students who arrive late to the Class can enter only if permitted by the Authority.
Those who depend on public conveyance should start early so as to reach the
College in time.
l The Morning and the Afternoon sessions begin with an invocation.
l Attendance will be marked for each Hour allotted to a Subject Students are
required to put in not less than 75% Attendance in individual Subjects.
l Attendance is compulsory on the College re-opening day.
l Students should compulsorlly appear for the Tests and Term Examinations.
l Students are required to participate in the National Day / Festival Programmes
organized by the College.
l All the students are required to participate in the activities and functions
conducted by various Associations/Clubs of the College.

l Students are advised to make use of the library facilities whenever they do not
have classes.
l Students are advised not to bring large amount of cash or other valuable items
to College. They have to take care of their belongings.
l No student shall leave the class without Lecturer's permission.
l Leave Applications countersigned by Parents / Guardian should be forwarded to
the co-ordinator in the proforma available in the College Office.
l If a student is absent due to sickness, Medical Certificate should be produced.
l Leave record which is appended to the Calendar should be signed by the
Class Advisor.
l If a student cannot appear for the Internal Examinations / Class Tests on health
grounds (no other reasons are entertained) the matter should be reported by his
/ her Parent / Guardian to the Principal in advance.
l Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited on the campus /in hostel. Those who
indulge in ragging or encourage it will be dismissed summarily from the college.
DISCIPLINE :
l Students are required to conduct themselves well. The College reserves the right
to dismiss any student if his / her behavior tarnishes the image of the College.
l Students are not permitted to celebrate any religious festivals on the College
Campus without the prior permission of the Principal.
l Loitering about the Campus should be avoided.
l Use of Cell phones by the students on the Campus is banned. Cell Phones, if
found with the students will be confiscated.
l Students have to be polite when they deal with the members of the staff.
l Irregularity in attendance, insubordination, discourtesy to Staff Members,
habitual inattention and late coming, neglect of work, obscenity in word or act
will attract disciplinary actions such as fine, suspension and dismissal.
l Students should not enter into an altercation with the Lecturers in the Class
Room. Disobedience during the class hours will be seriously dealt with.
l Willful damage caused to the College property will be recovered from the
students.

l The College will not be responsible for the conduct of the students outside its
premises. However, it will take note of the offence and action will be initiated
according to the nature and magnitude of the offence.
l Students should not raise funds, organize functions, convene meetings without
the permission from the Principal.
l Students are not supposed to play or listen to music using Cell Phones or any
other electronic devices on the College Campus. The devices if used will be
confiscated.
l Use of tobacco, alcohol or any other intoxicants is banned in the premises.
l Students who do not live with their parents or local guardians have to get
accommodation in the College Hostels.
l Booing, whistling or producing animal sounds in the Lecture Hall or in the
College Premises is forbidden.
l� Disfiguring the walls and furniture will attract disciplinary action.
l� Books, Magazines, Newspapers etc., not approved by the Principal are not
allowed to be brought to the College.
l� Those students who come to the College by Two Wheelers should have a valid
Driving License. To avoid noise pollution and disturbance, the Vehicles should
be fitted with Silencers. Students should park their vehicles only in the place
allotted. Bringing Four Wheelers by the students is prohibited. The College does
not provide parking slot for Four Wheelers of the students.
l Educational tours / Industry visit / Field visits are to be organized with the prior
permission of the Principal. For all such programmes written permission of the
parents is required.
l Attendance at Classes and Examinations, progress, as well as the conduct will be
taken into consideration while recommending students for concessions,
scholarships, Jobs as well as for representing the College in extra curricular
activities.
l After class hours no student is expected to remain on the Campus unless there is
a program or sports / games practice.
