Sacrament of Penance Congratulations to the children who received the

Sacrament of Penance last night. It was a wonderful

evening and we thank all who attended and made the

evening so special. Thanks to Mrs Delaney for her

preparation of the children. The reverence and

participation of the children throughout the Liturgy

was beautiful. A special acknowledgement must go to

Tahlani Chatfield, Andie Miller and Cooper Stephen

who came to support their classmates.

We begin the season of Advent this weekend. It

marks the beginning of the Church year. Each

Monday we will be celebrating

an Advent Liturgy at 9am. Please

feel free to join us in prayer at

each of the Liturgies. Yrs 5 and 6

will lead us on Monday.

Advent is a time of Christian preparation and

promise. During Advent, we remember the

promises God made to His people, Israel, to send

a Saviour. Just like the people of old, we prepare.

One of the important ways to prepare is to ask for

the gift of forgiveness. We receive this gift

through the Sacrament of Penance.

Whole School Mass

This Thursday, 24th

November we have a whole

School Mass at 10:15am in the Gym. Fr Owen is

back from leave and we are looking forward to the

opportunity to come together as a school to celebrate

God’s love for us. Parents, grandparents, friends of

our school community are all welcome to join us in

our celebration and stay for a cuppa and a chat after

Mass has concluded.

Stella Hall

A letter was sent to school on behalf of the

Bathurst RSL Sub Branch and the general veteran

community thanking Stella Hall for her

participation in the 2016 Remembrance Day

Services. Part of the letter read “Stella

represented your school with honour, dignity and

distinction speaking with a maturity beyond her

age. Her message was appropriate and in

addition to touching a number of veterans hearts

was well received by the Bathurst Community”.

Christmas Miracle Appeal

Each year we try to donate to the Bathurst

Christmas Miracle Appeal. Each classroom has a

money box for donations. The children have been

asked to donate a wrapped gift with a label stating

boy or girl and the age the gift would be

appropriate for. Could you please consider

donating to this very worthwhile appeal? I thank

you in advance for you continued generosity. Any

non perishable goods can also be donated.

Talent Quest and Mini Assembly Items Next Tuesday the 29

th November, everyone is

welcome to come and watch our talented children

perform from 9.30am in the Girra Girra Gymnasium.

Each of the classes will also perform an item and some

of our children will have the opportunity to perform at

St Catherine’s Aged Care later

in the week.

Children are asked to wear

Christmas colours on the day.

A rough timetable of when the

children will be performing

will be sent home today. School Captain Election Speeches

The children in Year 5 will commence their leadership

Week 7, Term 4, 2016

To the Parents, Friends and Community Members of St Philomena’s

It is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of Mrs Louise Davies to the position of Principal of St

Philomena’s. Mrs Davies, as you will all be aware, has been Acting in this role for the past 18 months. The

support of the wonderful team at St Phil’s during this time has ensured that she has been able to

successfully lead and enhance the quality learning and teaching in your dynamic, inclusive, pastorally

caring school community.

Bishop Michael has approved this appointment and the selection panel, including Fr Paul Devitt, were

unanimous in their recommendation of Mrs Davies to this leadership role.

Please join with me, Mrs Jenny Allen (Executive Director of Schools) and the members of the CEO

Leadership Team in welcoming Mrs Davies as the Principal of St Philomena’s from 2017.

With warm regards,

Janine Kearney
