Commissions’ Corner What do you really know about Saint Pio? Well, to start, he was a Capu-chin Priest, just like Blessed

Father Solanus Casey. More interesting and probably more perplexing for some, though, are the miracles that occurred both during and after his ministry. The word miracle comes from the Latin word for wonder and literally means “a sight to behold.” Miracles are supernatural signs or wonders brought about by God to sig-nify his Glory. In his lifetime, Saint Pio was known as Padre Pio. He is probably most known for having the miracle of the Stigmata, or the wounds of the crucifixion like Christ, in the hands, feet, and side. By some accounts he endured the pain and suffering at his shoulder from where the cross was carried, and from the scourging which Christ endured. He initially felt humiliated by the outward signs and asked to be relieved of them. He prayed later on to receive them again, a prayer which was granted, of course, and they were present for over 50 years. Also remarkable was the flo-ral odor associated with his Stigmata. He was not only known for the Stig-mata, though. He was also known to be a wonderful confessor, a miraculous healer, a mystic, and was able to be in two places at once! Since his passing, he has been a great intercessor, especially for heal-ing. Some of his relics, or personal arti-cles, are associated with these interces-sions, especially some of the rags and gloves that he wore to cover his Stig-mata. There are many more miracles and ex-amples than can be named here of Pa-dre Pio’s holiness. A quick internet search can turn into hours, or a trip to a religious library or bookstore will undoubtedly provide enjoyment, too. Pray for St. Pio’s intercession, and watch what happens. The next miracle may come through you!

Music Notes

The first Sunday after Pen-tecost was instituted to honor the Most Holy Trini-ty. In the early Church no special Office or day was

assigned for the Holy Trinity. When the Arian heresy was spreading the Fathers prepared an Office with canti-cles, responses, a Preface, and hymns, to be recited on Sundays. In the Sacra-mentary of St. Gregory the Great there are prayers and the Preface of the Trinity. The Micrologies, written dur-ing the pontificate of Gregory VII, call the Sunday after Pentecost a Dominica vacans , with no special Office, but add that in some places they recited the Office of the Holy Trinity com-posed by Bishop Stephen or Liège (903-20) By other the Office was said on the Sunday before Advent. Alexander II (1061-1073), not III, refused a peti-tion for a special feast on the plea, that such a feast was not customary in the Roman Church which daily honored the Holy Trinity by the Gloria, Patri, etc., but he did not forbid the celebra-tion where it already existed. John XXII (1316-1334) ordered the feast for the entire Church on the first Sunday after Pentecost. A new Office had been made by the Francis-can John Peckham, Canon of Lyons, later Archbishop of Canterbury (d. 1292). The feast ranked as a double of the second class but was raised to the dignity of a primary of the first class, July 24, 1911, by Pius X. The Greeks have no special feast. Since it was after the first great Pentecost that the doc-trine of the Trinity was proclaimed to the world, the feast follows that of Pentecost.

Road Construction I was heading over to the Warren W.I.C. office to pick up a donation for the Baby

Closet and since their office is right off of Hoover, that’s the road I drove to get there. Unfortunately as many of you know its road construction season in Michigan and Hoover is one of the roads under repair. I’m sure we’ll all be driving through road construction areas a lot this summer. What is it they say about road construction, “Pack your patience”? Have you ever noticed all the extra signs that are posted in a construction area; detour, slow traffic ahead, construction in progress and rough road ahead? But the one I like best as you’re leaving the construction area is, “End Construc-tion”. How many of us give a big sigh of relief when we see that sign? Truthfully the road signs never really end. We al-ways have to follow the rules of the road, whether speed limit, stop signs, yield, do not enter, etc. The rules are always still there, just not as prominent as with a big orange barrel and yellow flashing ar-rows. Road construction is like our faith jour-ney. God is always under construction with our faith lives. He’s placed road signs for us along our journey to keep us safe, to point us in the right direction and to warn us. Sometimes it seems as though the process is so slow and some-times messy, even uncertain as to where the road is taking us. We have to learn to be patient with the work God is do-ing. Remember the old saying, “Be pa-tient, God isn’t finished with me yet.” We just have to remember that we are not alone on this journey, God is always with us. When you exit the Construc-tion Zone ask God to continue this jour-ney with you, whether it’s on bumpy roads or onto smooth sailing.

St. Pio Intercessory Prayer Ministry

Come join us after Mass in the church and experience the Holy Spirit at work with our newest ministry! Prayer teams are available after all weekend Masses. Intercessory prayer is a prayer that pleads with God for your needs and the needs of others. Often the problems we face seem too big for us. No matter how much we try, we cannot solve them on our own. It's times like these when we need to turn to the Lord in intercessory prayers.
