This cost includes the con- struction of the Church, the liturgical appoint- ments, artwork, pews, fees of the General Con- tractor, Architect, and Liturgical Design Consult- ant, purchase of the site property, demolition of buildings on the site, etc. Of the total cost, St. Pius has already paid $9,277,771. which leaves the loan for the pro- ject currently at $11,641,525. This loan is from the Diocesan CDLP program (Cooperative De- velopment Loan Program) where all parishes put savings and receive loans. The current loan rate is at 3.5% and the loan is for 30 years with a note of $53,000 a month. St. Pius is assessed 15% of its income by the Diocese. However, when a parish undertakes a program such as what St. Pius has done, an assessment credit is given to the parish. The assessment credit is determined by multiplying the cost of the project by 15%. So, the assess ment credit total is $3,137,894.50. This credit will be portioned out over the next 180 months (15 years), which means that each month St. Pius will pay $17,432.75 less in assessment and can apply these funds to the debt. In the month of February St. Pius paid $100,000 on the note instead of $53,000 and in March $65,000 was paid. Continued Page 2.

The total cost of the new church building project is $20,919,296.70. This cost includes the con-struction of the Church, the liturgical appoint-ments, artwork, pews, fees of the General Con-tractor, Architect, and Liturgical Design Consult-ant, purchase of the site property, demolition of buildings on the site, etc.

Of the total cost, St. Pius has already paid $9,277,771. which leaves the loan for the pro-ject currently at $11,641,525. This loan is from the Diocesan CDLP program (Cooperative De-velopment Loan Program) where all parishes put savings and receive loans. Each month on the third Sunday of the month, there will now be a debt reduction collection. This will be a second collection where the ushers will pass the collection baskets a second time after communion. All other second collec-tions will be done by people putting their second collection envelopes in the first collection along with their regular stewardship of finance offerings without having to pass the collection baskets once again after communion. The debt reduction collection will begin in the month of May. It is the parish’s intent to retire the debt as soon as possi-ble and the above measures will assist St. Pius in making that happen. Thank you to all who have assisted in all the dimensions of nurturing the life of this faith community in any way. Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us in all that we do and that we have the ability to discern the direction of the Spirit moving us into being a communi-ty of intentional disciples.

AROUND THE DIOCESE

Bishop Provost Ordained

On April 23, 2007, another native son of would be ordained for the Episcopacy. Msgr. Glen John Prov-ost, a native of Lafayette, was serving as Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima, when he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to serve as the third Bishop of the Dio-cese of Lake Charles. Bishop Provost was ordained by Archbishop Hughes of New Orleans. His Co-Consecrators were Bishop Jarrell and Bishop Speyrer, who served as the first Bishop of Lake Charles. Bishop Jarrell and Bishop Speyrer are both native sons to the Diocese, from Opelousas and Leonville respectively. The year 2018 is joyous and wonderful for in this year we are privileged to celebrate 100 years of Catholi-cism, 100 years of spreading the Love of God to the people of South Louisiana by providing the sacra-ments, celebrating Mass, encouraging the afflicted, visiting the sick and comforting the dying. These have been 100 years of blessing for all of us who have had the privilege to be the face of God to the people of Acadiana. As we celebrate, however, it is also im-portant to recognize that there have been times when those who have been called to ministry in order that the Lord’s forgiveness, healing and peace may be experienced by all, have been the cause of much pain and suffering within our community. In order that through the joy of our celebration, those who have been hurt by the Church’s ministers may not be for-gotten, Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel and the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette wish to recognize, as part of our Century of Love, those among us who deserve our continued prayers, support and love as they heal from the wounds of abuse at the hands of those, who, by virtue of orders, were called to be ministers of the Church. To this end, at a prayer service for all victims of abuse in any form, Bishop Deshotel invites the people of the Diocese of Lafayette to join him in a Eucharistic Prayer Service and a dedication of a mon-ument that will serve as a reminder to all of our con-stant need to keep in prayer all those who have been hurt by the Church’s ministers. The Prayer Service and Dedication Ceremony will take place at 6pm on Friday, April 27, 2018 in front of Immaculata Chapel, adjacent to the Diocese of Lafayette Central Office, 1408 Carmel Drive in Lafayette. All are invited to this prayerful event.
