BiographySt. Quiteria was born in the second century (A.D.) along with nine other

sisters. She was the daughter of Calsiaand King Lucio.

Calsia their mother, disgusted at the fact that she had given birth to nine

daughters all at once as if she were a common easant (or an animal),She called on her maid Silato disose of them by drowning the nine

infants. Sila was a follower of Christianity so she ended u giving the

babies to a Christian mon! to be raised in the Christian community. "heir

father #ing $ucio was comletely unaware of their birth.

&uiteria was the most dedicated out of her sisters when

it came to their faith. She was fascinated with the 'irginary and the words of Christ. "he mon! eventually told

&uiteria and her eight other sisters eventually

formed a +warrior gang that traveled around

brea!ing Christians out of -ail. "his lasted for a

few years until they were caught and brought to

/hile the sisters lived there they raised 0esus everyday and

eventually turned their room into a rayer hall. /hen the #ing

reali%ed they were Christians he told them to give it u and marry

oman agans. "hey refused and were loc!ed u in -ail. 1n -ailthey raised and glorified 0esus, and eventually an angel came

and told &uiteria +2ay and fortunate you are, for you deserved

to find grace in front of 3od, so that 3od has chosen you as his

souse. 1t is 3od4s will, that you are to live in solitude in the

mount ria and there you will e*ercise in oration andcontemlation.

"he angel released them from -ail and they escaed all going in

different directions. &uiteria followed the angel and lived on the

to of a mountain, where she was eventually catured. nceshe again declined the marriage offer, she was imrisoned.

Again she was freed by an angel, and returned to the mountain

along with a grou of other women whom she converted to

Christianity.

crown of martyrdom, and met 5rosen

$astiano the ruler of the city Aufragia.

She converted him to Christianity, butthen a few days later he gave it u and

became a agan again. 5rosen and his

soldiers reached the mountain with

intentions to !ill her, but as the were

ascending he fell down suddenly andlost all feeling in his hands and legs.

of faith.

women from his alace and one of his good friends to

Christianity. $ucio and his soldiers left the alace so they could

hunt her down. /hen they finally found her at the Aire6sur6l4Adourchurch in 3ascony, 7rance he again tried to force her into

marriage, and she declined because she wanted to remain a

virgin for 0esus.

2er father then ordered one of his soldiers to behead her, and it

was done instantly. "hey also beheaded all of the other Christian

women she was with. $egend has it that after she was beheaded

she wal!ed to the Church of the 'irgin ary with her head in her

hands.
