SCHOOL NEWS...
From Our Principal – WCEA/WASC Accreditation
As a school we are preparing for the WCEA/WASC accreditation visit in the spring of 2015. Over the last two years we have in place a new Mission Statement, Philosophy Statement and Student Learning Expectations. The Mission Statement is on all our documents, website etc. Here is the updated Philosophy Statement:
St. Raymond School Philosophy Statement
St. Raymond School, an educational ministry of St. Raymond Parish and the Diocese of Oakland, provides a quality, Catholic education in a community of faith and love. The administration,
faculty, and staff facilitate learning that is:
╬ Marked by high academic standards ╬ Enhanced by a commitment to Gospel values and
social justice ╬ Respectful of diversity and each individual's unique self-worth
╬ Supportive of the development of responsible members of family, school, parish, and global communities
St. Raymond School partners with parents and recognizes them as the primary educators of their children. The school provides support services and comprehensive co-curricular activities as part of the foundation of our educational program. Students strive to persevere through challenges, to solve problems, and to seek deeper knowledge. Students develop a mutual respect and discipline that promotes personal responsibility reflecting a faith-centered commitment to Jesus Christ. Each student is encouraged to grow in his/her relationship with God in an environment that nurtures the development of the whole person.
Graduates will demonstrate a capacity for critical thinking with the ability to respond to the challenges of a global, technological society. They will have developed self-confidence, resilience, an active love of learning, and with God's help and that of their parents, a desire to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to others for the good of the Church and the world.

Strength-Based Leadership Course (Short Course) November 4, 9:00 am – Noon and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm Sustainable leadership rests on a foundation of personal commitment to continued self-development, and the good news from contemporary research is that leading from strength rather than paying attention to weakness creates lasting satisfaction and zest. This course is based on Positive Psychology, a new movement in the field led by Dr. Martin Seligman whose newest book, Authentic Happiness, identifies variables that predict more satisfaction about the past, optimism about the future, and happiness in the present. This course offered by The School of Applied Theology is presented by Carolyn Foster, director of Creative Choices and Companions on the Way. Register online here or call 510-652-1651.

FAMILY TO FAMILY
F2F
St. Raymond's Parish participates in the Diocesan F2F (Family to Family) parish-based ministry and we are looking for
volunteers. A small team of parishioners from various parishes volunteer their gift of time and talents to support a local family
over 18 months. Training is provided on poverty, purpose, process, understanding clients and teamwork and then we work
together as a team with our family.
The purpose of the Family-to-Family Partnership Program is to strengthen our community involvement and make a difference in
the lives of low-income families by helping them to become sustainable. Volunteers commit to seeing our family regularly
and meeting together to chart a course.
If you are interested in learning more about this special ministry, please call Marcia Parker at 925 518-9882 or via email
We are very fortunate to be able to extend our food program, so if you or someone you know is in need of a Food Basket anytime during the year, please provide your name and number to our Parish Office by calling 828-2460.
