CAMPUS UPDATES CONT.
KEYS FOR PARISH LIFE CENTER
Safety of our parishioners, especially our youth, is a top priority at St. Richard. In order to keep the PLC safe and secure, as well as to make it easier for parishioners to access the building when needed, we will be doing some updates to our security system this spring.
We will be re-keying the Parish Life Center and installing coded locks on several outer doors. These coded locks will reduce the need for ministries to pick up keys for their meeting. It will also prevent a proliferation of key copying, which represents a
major vulnerability in any security system that relies on keys.
The new process is as follows: The Parish Ministries Coordinator, Valerie Tonsor, will issue time-sensitive codes for all groups and ministries who need access to the Parish Life Center. She is able to do this remotely, so key hand-off coordination is unnecessary.
Our new system allows Valerie to change codes easily. Thus, in the event of a security threat, access codes can be quickly changed, avoiding the need to re-key the facilities. Thank God we have had no such security threats to date. Our new system should make such an event even more unlikely in the future.
There is no date certain as yet for the installation of our new system. Those ministry leaders and other parishioners who have a master key currently should check with Valerie to receive a newer one that will be updated with our new security code system.
Thank you for understanding the need and reasons for this upgrade in our security for St. Richard parish. As soon as we have a final date for installation, we will communicate it to the parish.
CAMPUS UPDATES
MISSION STATEMENT AWARENESS
In the coming weeks, you will begin to notice banners and signs around the campus making very
visible our parish mission statement. This is a quick way for us to raise mission awareness among our
parishioners and to broadcast to visitors to our church what we are all about as a community of
faith. If you have ideas about other key places with-in our facilities where a visible statement of our par-
ish mission should be placed, please make them known to Fr. Phil or any of the parish staff. It is so
important our focus in everything we do at St. Richard is so that we can “know Him more clearly, love Him more dearly, and follow Him more near-
ly, day by day.”
Father Phil has made it safely to Bangladesh! Please continue to pray for his safety as well as for those that will be hearing him speak over the next few
weeks. Featured with Father Phil, is his friend Father Gabriel who visited us this past summer.
Know Him More Clearly
HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE - A Journey in
Contemplative Prayer and Reflection
From June 17-28, 2019, Fr. Phil Krill will lead a contemplative pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This is not a sight-seeing tour. Beginning in Galilee and finishing in the Judean desert, we will visit carefully selected sacred sites, absorbing the ethos of the plac-es where Jesus lived and taught. We will also seek to experience, through a combination of lectio divina and contemplative prayer, a strengthened sense of His risen Presence. Our pilgrimage to Israel will proceed at a very measured pace. No “off-the bus, on-the-bus” rushing as is routine on most such tours. We will spend extended time at each sacred place, allowing ample time for reflection and
personal prayer. This is essentially a practicum in contemplative practice, employing a synergistic combination of lectio divina, contemplative prayer, group faith-sharing, and spiritual direction.
For more information about this pilgrimage and/or to register, go to : www.bibletrektours.com or call George Makhlouf : (702) 339-5533 or
Father Phil Krill at (616) 243-7566.
FROM THE DESK OF MISS ANN MADDEN
Since this winter appears to be a snowy one I want to remind our PSR families that if class is canceled it will be announced on Channel 2. You can access this information on their website under cancelations. I will also send out an e-mail and text message through our PSR enroll system. Please make sure your information is up to date in the system. I will always err on the side of safety and keep in mind that parents have to get home from work in traffic before coming to PSR. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I also want to take this opportunity to remind parents that if a child is not feeling well, please keep him/her home from PSR. We want to share the good news of Jesus but we don't want to share germs if possible. This week we have another great reading to study as families. It's 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13. We have all heard this reading at Catholic weddings. Perhaps you even had it read at your wedding. I like this reading because it reminds us of just how strong love is. It reminds us that in order to love we must be patient, kind, nonjudgmental, slow to anger, just and forgiving. It shows us that God loves us for who we are and will always love us. With the feast of St. Valentine coming up on February 14, why not take time and have children make hearts or valentine decorations for shut-ins or residents in nursing homes? I am sure that this would brighten their day. It is a great way to be the heart of Christ and share His love with others. This is a great way to put this reading into action. Remember, in the end, love is the greatest gift we can give to another person and we are to love God with all of our heart, mind and soul. February 3 is the feast of St. Blaise. In many churches people will have their throats blessed and ask for the intersession of St. Blaise to protect them from illnesses of the throat. It is an excellent time to talk about asking Saints to intercede for us and keep us safe. If you are stuck inside with your family this winter, why not look up Saints and discover for what they are the patron of? Create a list of these Saints and their feast days and remember to pray for their intersession on their feast day. This is good way to use the internet in a positive way. Next week I will be leaving for a pilgrimage to the Holy Land which will be lead by my uncle Fr. Carl Pieber, C.M. I ask that you pray for safe travel for all of us and I assure you I will pray for you on the pilgrimage at Masses and other prayer services. I know this will be a once in a lifetime experience.

Love Him More Dearly
Server Training
Deacon John Bischof will conduct a couple of training sessions for new servers on Saturdays Feb. 9th and 16th in
the Church at 10 a.m. Only 1 session is required. The training will last until roughly 11 a.m. If you have a child, boy or girl,
interested in serving at weekend Masses please contact Deacon John at 569-3855 or [email protected].
Please let him know which day would work
best for your child to attend.
Vesting Space
You may have noticed that we recently moved the servers vesting space to the back of the church next
to the restroom. This is to allow more space for Father Phil and Deacon John to prepare for Mass. If you child is a server, please have them report directly to the new vesting space to get ready for
Mass. After vesting, servers are to retrieve the crucifix from the front of church, and promptly
return to the gathering space to wait for Father Phil to begin the Mass.
