DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE! October 10—Share Everything In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the rich young man to sell everything, give to the poor and follow Him. The rich young man’s response—he went away sad for he had many possessions. Each of us is that rich young man. God calls us to be generous with all of our gifts, not just the one or two gifts that we choose, but especially that one gift that means the most to you. When it comes to sharing, we typically give away what we have the most of. We share what we have “leftover” instead of sharing our “first fruits”–our first and best. Of all the gifts that God has given us, the one that He wants the most is our heart. When we share all our gifts, we keep God first in everything. archstl.org/dynamic

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2021 THE TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (Lec.143) 1) Wisdom 7:7-11 2) Hebrews 4:12-13 3) Mark 10:17-30 or 10:17-27 FOCUS: Discipleship requires courage. God’s call to faithful discipleship promises unimaginable blessings and requires radical trust in God’s providence. Like the rich young man, we have futures to get ready. We cannot do it alone—for it is only with God that all things are possible. LITURGY OF THE WORD In the first reading, King Solomon entreats and encoun-ters Wisdom and is granted blessings that pale only in comparison to Wisdom herself. In the second reading, the author writes: The word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword. In the Gospel, Jesus has an exchange with a young man of many posses-sions, who asks what he must do to inherit eternal life.

Thank you to all who participated in the Sunday, Octo-ber 3, 2021 Pro-Life prayer chain. This year we had ap-proximately 60-65 participants from St Robert Bellar-mine, St Elizabeth Ann Seton, St Peter, St Cletus and St Barnabas parishes along with members of the Covenant of Grace church and others. The participants were prayerful and public witnesses; and through the grace of God, may pregnant women choose life for their babies. May God open the hearts and minds of those who con-done and support abortion. Thank you again for partici-pating in the prayer chain.

A Message from Father Mark The following reflection comes from Ascend: Companion to the Sunday Readings, Life

Teen, 2018

What do you value? We may be able to make lists of what is most important or valu-able to us, but our minds and our hearts are often disconnected. We may know the right answer to what we should value, but our heart may be far from living out the truth. We may say that our family is most valuable, but does the way we spend our time reflect this? We may say we value charitable action and ser-vice, but our busy calendars and stingy bank statements tell a different story. We are to gain God’s wisdom by listen-ing to his living Word and allow it to saturate our lives so that we may see things the way God sees them. We are to act in the way God calls us to put aside everything and follow him wholeheartedly.

Communion: #651 “Remember Your Love”

Refrain: Remember your love and your faithfulness, O Lord. Remember your people and have mercy on us, Lord.

1: The Lord is my light and my salvation, Whom should I fear? The Lord is my life and my refuge, When I call God hears.

2: If you dwelt, O Lord, upon our sinfulness, Then who could stand? But with you there is mercy and forgiveness And a guiding hand.

3: O Lord, hear the sound of my call And answer me. My heart cries out for your presence; It is you I seek.

4: As sentinels wait upon the daylight, Wait for the Lord. I trust in your kindness and redemption; And your faithful word.

5: Before all the mountains were begotten And earth took shape, Even then, O Lord, you were our refuge Throughout ev’ry age.

Text: Based on Psalms 25, 27, 90, 130; Mike Balhoff, b. 1946. Music: Darryl Ducote, b.1945, and Gary Daigle, b.1957.

Communion 2: #396

“Be Thou My Vision” SLANE 1: Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art: Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

2: Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word; I ever with Thee, and Thou with me, Lord: Thou my great Father, I Thy true son, Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

3: Riches I heed not, or man’s empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

4: High King of heaven, my victory won, May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heav’n’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still by my vision, O Ruler of all.
