St Thomas the Apostle Church Page 2 Peoria Heights, Illinois
Today we celebrate Pentecost and remember
the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Blessed
Mother and the Apostles. On this day, fifty days
after we celebrated the Lord’s Resurrection, we
complete the Easter Season. Although we
return to Ordinary Time, there are still some
special solemnities to observe: Trinity Sunday
next week, and then Corpus Christi.
On Corpus Christi, June 23, we celebrate the
Body and Blood of Christ and honor Our Lord in
the Eucharist. To make the day special, we will
add some time for Eucharistic Adoration. At
the end of the 9 am Mass, we will have a short
procession, and then leave the Blessed
Sacrament exposed in the church for about an
hour. Benediction will take place a little before
11 am. On this day, please take a little extra
time after the 9 am or before the 11 am Mass to
pray with Our Lord.
Looking ahead to the next school year, many
of our families know we are waiting for the John
Lancaster Spalding Scholarship awards from the
Diocese. As soon as we receive that
information, we will offer tuition assistance from
our Msgr. Watson Scholarship Endowment. I
know some of our families are awaiting this
information. I thank you for your patience. As
soon as we are able to make these
determinations, we will be offering as much
financial aid as we can to meet the need.
Allow me to express my gratitude to our families
that have donated to our Sponsor-a-Student
Fund, our Mgsr. Watson Scholarship
Endowment, or who have donated through
Empower Illinois. Many of you have raised your
children, but still give generously to help the
next generation afford a Catholic
education. On behalf of everyone at St.
Thomas, thank you very much!
-Msgr. Gray

Totus Tuus June 30—July 5 Totus Tuus instructs young people in the basic tenets of the Catholic faith
to cultivate both a firm intellectual grounding and a solid personal
relationship with Christ. We have a Totus Tuus team coming to St. Thomas
the week of June 30th. Grades 1-6 will participate during the day and
grades 7-12 will meet in the evening. Registration materials are available
on the tables in the back of Church, as well as the school and parish
offices. Questions? Contact Molly Legaspi or Maureen Bentley at 685-
2533 or [email protected]
Totus Tuus encourages young people to begin discerning God’s call in
their life to be married, a priest, a religious, or single. Totus Tuus
demonstrates that one can be a faithful, practicing Catholic and still
have fun. Summer of 2018 was our first year offering this parish mission for
our youth and those who participated found it was a great opportunity
to grow together in faith.
Support St. Thomas School You can support our school in several easy
ways, all through ordinary purchases and
shopping that you regularly do every day:
PURCHASE COMET CASH When you buy
Comet Cash gift cards after Mass for your
ordinary purchases, or as gifts you give to
others, a percentage of the value of those
cards is returned to the school. Part of this
money goes to the PTO, and part is dedicated
to tuition assistance for families. You can also
place orders by contacting Angie Robenstein
SHOP WITH SCRIP Beyond the gift cards
available after Mass, additional retailers are
available online at Shop with Scrip. Go
to shopwithscrip.com and use our school code,
BA38E9AD7759, to register.
SHOP AT KROGER If you have a Kroger card,
you can support St. Thomas School with your
purchases. Register your Kroger Card online at
Kroger.com. Under your Plus Card, go to the
Account Summary, Community Awards. Enter
HG118 or search St. Thomas. Even if you have
enrolled in the past, you must reenroll every
year to renew this benefit to our school.
SHOP AT AMAZON When shopping at
Ama zon , be su re to log onto
smile.amazon.com, and dedicate a portion of
your purchase payments to St. Thomas
School. When you first log on, choose St.
Thomas School as your beneficiary, or log
onto http://smi le.amazon.com/ch/37 -
0662587. Once this is set up, you will not need
to reenter St. Thomas everytime you log onto
smile.amazon.com.
CLIP BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Box Tops for
Education are on a variety of grocery and
household items. Turn these in at St. Thomas
and provide a benefit for our School.
Hospitals and Nursing Homes We need your help if you are a patient at one of our Peoria hospitals or a
resident of a Nursing Home. If you would like us to know you are
hospitalized, please notify the hospital at the time of admission that you
are a member of St. Thomas Parish. You, or a family member, may also
contact the hospital Pastoral Care Office to have St. Thomas listed as your
parish. Due to the HIPAA Privacy Rule the hospital cannot notify us you
are there. We call the hospitals to find out if any of our parishioners are
there, and they can only tell us if it is stated on your record. If you are a
resident at a Nursing Home, please be sure your record with them shows
you are Catholic, and that St. Thomas is your parish. We would then
appreciate a phone call from you or a family member letting us know
your where you are. Thank you for helping us keep in touch with you.

Invest in Kids Scholarships On May 21st, Pat Wombacher represented St. Thomas Parish in Springfield to meet with state legislators about the importance of the Tax Credit Scholarship to our families. This was part of an organized effort by Empower Illinois to show support for this program. Throughout the month of May, 100 family members, students and school leaders throughout the state joined in this show of support for the Tax Credit Scholarship through the Invest in Kids Program. They have met with 99 of our state legislators to remind them how vital the Tax Credit Scholarship Program is to thousands of Illinois families. During the past school year here at St. Thomas 32 students from 19 families received an award through the Invest in Kids Scholarship program., a tremendous help to the families. So far for the upcoming school year, we have had 5 students from 3 families have received awards. Another 75 students have qualified and are on a waiting list. What we need now is more donations to help more of our families. If you are interested in making a donation to the Invest in Kids Program. and in return receiving a 75% tax credit on your 2018 Illinois income tax return, please contact Pat or Julie in the Parish Office (688-3446) and they will help you. We are grateful for the support our generous parishioners provide our students.
STS Fifth Grade Raises Funds for Honor Flight St. Thomas School Fifth Graders chose the Honor Flight as their service
project this year. They did not stop at raising money to sponsor Veterans
to take the flight to Washington, D.C; some of them even went to the
airport to welcome the vets back from their trip, shaking hands and
thanking those who have served our country.
