DIRECTION Isaiah tells us something that we already know, and yet seem to forget every now and then. He tells us, essentially, that God is God and we are not. When we’re confused and troubled and can’t figure everything out, it might be wise to recall Isaiah speaking on the Lord’s behalf and explaining that God—who is on a much more, well, Godly wave-length than we are—moves in ways we can’t even imagine. Saint Paul, by comparison, has everything figured out. Kind of. At least he understands his calling in life—to magnify Christ in everything he does. That should give all of us the direction we need. Jesus gives us direction, too, explaining to us once again in the parable of the workers in the vineyard that the last will be first, and the first, last.

All of us are on the same spiritual journey towards God and His heavenly kingdom. Yet, all of us go through so many different experiences that sometimes we can loose our sense of our journey because of our difficulties or emotions. Sometimes we tend to ask God: “Why me?, why now?” Certainly we can all relate with this right now be-cause of the many challenges that we have faced this year so far. Isaiah in the first reading challenges all of us to seek God in our lives. He also encourages us to remain faithful so that all of us might experience His grace, especially in moments of difficul-ty. The readings this weekend also remind us that the God’s grace is abounding for all of us all the time. We must never forget that. If we have faith in God, His love, mercy and grace is available for all of us all the time. Let us not be discouraged, but contin-ue in our journey of faith trusting in God so that we might be able to experience God’s grace, love and mercy. Please stay safe and may God bless all of you. Fr. NOTICIAS DE CATECISMO

Todos estamos en la misma jornada espiritual hacia Dios y su reino celestial. Todos nosotros pasamos por varias experiencias que a veces nuestra jornada espiritual puede perder su sentido por nuestras difi-cultades o emociones. Algunas veces le preguntamos Dios: “¿Por que yo? ¿Por que ahora?” Ciertamente todos podemos comprender esto en este tiempo por todos los retos que hemos enfrentado este año. Isaías en la primera lectura nos reta a todos a buscar a Dios en nuestras vidas. También nos invita a per-manecer fieles para que podamos experimentar la gracia de Dios, especialmente en los momentos difíci-les. Las lecturas de este fin de semana también nos recuerdan que la gracia de Dios es para todos y dis-ponible en todo momento. Nunca debemos de olvidar esto. Si tenemos fe en Dios, Su amor, misericordia y gracia será disponible para todos nosotros en todo momento. No hay que desanimarnos, pero mas bien hay que continuar en nuestra jornada espiritual de fe, confiando en Dios para que podamos experimentar Su gracia, amor y misericordia. RECIBIR LA COMUNIÓN There has been some confusion about receiving the Eucharist on the hand during this time of the pan-demic. I have heard some people said that is bad, irreverent, and disrespectful or even a sin to receive the Eucharist on the hand. The General Instructions of the Roman Missal states: “When receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows his or her head before the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the Body of the Lord from the minister. The consecrated host may be received either on the tongue or in the hand at the discretion of each com-municant.” (160). Certainly receiving communion on the hand IS NOT a sin or is being disrespectful. Dur-ing this time of Covid-19 pandemic, our bishop Vasa has left this issue at the discretion of the priest and/or deacon to do our best in being attentive to the needs of the faithful, yet provide the Eucharist in a safe manner for everyone. Regardless, whether we receive the Eucharist on the tongue or on the hand, we must be revently when receiving the Precious body and blood of Christ. I understand that all of us have our own, individual preferences when receiving the Eucharist. Yet, during this time of the pandemic for the safety and wellbeing of everyone, I have not found a way that would be safe for everyone (you and me) to distribute the Eucharist on the tongue so it is best that our parish will continue to distribute the Eucharist only on the hand during this pandemic. It would be very complicated to distribute the Eucha-rist on the tongue in a way that is safe for everyone. If the priest and/deacon touches the tongue of the individual (which happens many times during each Mass), we would have to go to the sacristy and wash our hands for at least 20 seconds each and every sin-gle time. I am doing the best to lower the risk of any-one (you or me) getting sick while at the same time providing the sacraments and other spiritual events during these challenging times. Once this pandemic is over, we will go back to distributing the Eucharist on the tongue or on the hand at the discretion of the communicant. Thank you for your understanding. RECEIVING COMMUNION Como mencione el fin de semana pasado, hay algu-nas confusiones sobre recibiendo la Eucaristía en la mano durante este tiempo de la pandemia. He escu-chado algunos decir que es malo, irreverente, falta de respeto o inclusive que es pecado recibir la comunión en la mano. Las Instrucciones General del Misal Ro-mano dice: “Al recibir la Santa Comunión, el comul-gante inclina su cabeza ante el Sacramento como ges-to de reverencia y recibe el Cuerpo del Señor del mi-nistro. La hostia consagrada puede ser recibida en la lengua o en la mano, según la discreción del comul-gante” (160). Recibir la Eucaristía en la mano NO ES un pecado o es falta de respeto. Nuestro Obispo Vasa ha dejado a la discreción al sacerdote/diacono a estar atento a las necesidades de los fieles y al mismo tiempo distribuir la Eucaristía de una manera segura para todos. Sin importar si recibimos la Eucaristía en la lengua o en la mano, necesitamos que ser res-petosos al recibir el Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo. Com-prendo que cada uno de nosotros tenemos nuestra preferencias de cómo recibimos la Eucaristía. En si, durante este tiempo de esta pandemia, yo no veo co-mo se puede dar la Eucaristía en la mano de una ma-nera segura para todos (ustedes y yo) así que por el bien y salud de todos, será mejor para nuestra parro-quia distribuir la comunión SOLO en la mano duran-te esta pandemia. Seria bastante complicado distri-buir la Eucaristía en la lengua de una manera segura y saludable para todos. Si el sacerdote o diacono toca la lengua de la persona (que sucede varias veces du-rante cada misa) tendríamos que ir a la sacristía y lavarnos las manos por lo menos 20 segundos cada vez. Estoy haciendo todo lo posible para disminuir el riesgo de todos (ustedes y yo) de enfermarnos y al mismo tiempo proveer los sacramentos y otros even-tos espirituales durante estos tiempos difíciles. Una vez que termine la pandemia, regresaremos a distri-buir la Eucaristía en la lengua o en la mano a la dis-creción del comulgante. Muchas gracias por su com-prensión. Gospel: Mt 20:1–16a Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The king-dom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. Going out about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o’clock, and did likewise. Going out about five o’clock, the landowner found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You too go into my vine-yard.’ When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Summon the la-borers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’ When those who had started about five o’clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying, ‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’ He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am gen-erous?’ Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Después de quedar con ellos en pagarles un denario por día, los mandó a su viña. Salió otra vez a media mañana, vio a unos que estaban ociosos en la plaza y les dijo: ‘Vayan también ustedes a mi viña y les pa-garé lo que sea justo’. Salió de nuevo a medio día y a media tarde e hizo lo mismo. Por último, sa-lió también al caer la tarde y encontró todavía a otros que estaban en la plaza y les dijo: ‘¿Por qué han estado aquí todo el día sin trabajar?’ Ellos le respondieron: ‘Porque nadie nos ha contratado’. Él les dijo: ‘Vayan también ustedes a mi viña’. Al atardecer, el dueño de la viña dijo a su adminis-trador: ‘Llama a los trabajadores y págales su jornal, comenzando por los últimos hasta que llegues a los primeros’. Se acercaron, pues, los que habían llegado al caer la tarde y recibieron un denario cada uno. Cuando les llegó su turno a los primeros, creyeron que recibirían más; pero también ellos recibieron un denario cada uno. Al recibirlo, comenzaron a reclamarle al propieta-rio, diciéndole: ‘Esos que llegaron al último sólo trabajaron una hora, y sin embargo, les pagas lo mismo que a nosotros, que soportamos el peso del día y del calor’. Pero él respondió a uno de ellos: ‘Amigo, yo no te hago ninguna injusticia. ¿Acaso no quedamos en que te pagaría un dena-rio? Toma, pues, lo tuyo y vete. Yo quiero darle al que llegó al último lo mismo que a ti. ¿Qué no puedo hacer con lo mío lo que yo quiero? ¿O vas a tenerme rencor porque yo soy bueno?’ De igual manera, los últimos serán los primeros, y los pri-meros, los últimos”.
