    MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGY

    mEChaniCal EnginEERingtEChniCian - induStRialmaintEnanCE is a 52-week Ontario College Diploma program with student intakes in September,

    January and May. Students gain practical, hands-on experience in hydraulics,

    pneumatics, welding, machining, electronics and machine repair. The program

    content is parallel to the apprenticeship training program or Industrial Millwrights.

    Graduates fnd employment in service or sales in a number o areas including ood,

    manuacturing, chemical and automotive sectors.

    mEChaniCal tEChniCian - CnC/Cam is a 45-week Ontario College Diploma co-op program with multiple student

    intakes. Students learn to operate Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) equipment

    and perorm advanced programming including ourth-axis machining. Graduates

    are able to create and implement programs and use sotware to create drawings,

    designs, machine code and manuacturing data. They also possess communication,

    documentation and teamwork skills to support manuacturing activities.

    Graduates work as CNC programmers in metalworking, woodworking and general

    manuacturing sectors.

    mEChaniCal tEChniquES - CnC is a 23-week Ontario College Certifcate program with multiple student intakes.

    Students learn to machine metal on conventional machines and then transer those

    skills to Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools. Operators o CNCmachines study tooling, metal cutting theory, work-holding concepts, machining

    techniques and operations as well as CNC programs. Graduates work as CNC

    operators, CNC set-up technicians and as entry-level programmers.

    WElding tEChniquES a one-year Ontario College Certifcate program. Two semesters on campus and

    a mandatory work placement provides the theoretical and practical training to

    perorm most basic welding techniques. Students will be exposed to topics including

    health and saety, blueprint reading and sketching, applied math, communication,

    shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, introduction to computers, and

    all position pipe welding. At the completion o the program, students will be eligible

    to test or welding tickets based on their level o expertise. Career opportunities

    include: Welder, Welder Fitter Trainee, Apprentice Welder, Apprentice Boilermaker,

    Apprentice Construction Millwright, Apprentice Industrial Mechanic/Millwright,

    Apprentice Ironworker, Apprentice Pipeftter and Apprentice Fitter. We oer a

    BUSINESS

    BuSinESS FoundationS a one-year Ontario College Certifcate program (oered in St. Thomas) designedto build undamental business skills. With small classes, this program is ideal

    or students who need to strengthen math or other oundational skills beore

    entering a two-year business diploma program, mature students who are preparing

    to re-enter the workorce, and international students who would beneft rom a

    customized curriculum. Students will take courses in customer service and business

    communication, while improving computer and math skills. As the second semester

    o Business Foundations is identical to the common frst semester shared by all

    two-year diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School o Business, graduates

    may choose to transer directly into Level Two o any diploma program or enter the

    workorce in the retail or service sectors.

    ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS

    ElECtRoniCS EnginEERingtEChniCian - induStRial ContRolS is a 52-week Ontario College Diploma program with student intakes in

    September, January and May. This is a pre-apprenticeship program that ocuses

    on electricity and electronics as they relate to industrial controls and actory

    automation. The emphasis is on practical, hands-on training as you design and

    troubleshoot electronic circuits and control equipment and actually design and build

    control systems. This program will give you the skills to maintain, program and

    troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), industrial sensors and motorcontrol circuits. Recent graduates are employed in the turbine industry.

    HEALTH SCIENCES

    pERSonal SuppoRt WoRkER this one-year Ontario College Certifcate program is completed in 30 weeks and

    is oered in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Tillsonburg. As a personal support

    worker, you will observe and respond to the needs o clients in long-term care

    acilities, retirement homes, in home-care and hospital settings. You will assist

    people with the tasks o daily living, help make them comortable and keep

    them sae.

    tool and diE makER (BloCk RElEaSE) tool and die makers work in the manuacturing sector to create and repair special

    tools, prototypes, dies, fxtures and gauges. Precision work in planning, positioning

    and measuring is essential. Increasingly, tool and die makers need to understand

    how to operate computerized programming equipment.

    AppRENTICESHIp pROGRAMSApprenticeship programs require an employer/sponsor. The employermust register the apprentice with the Ministry o Training, Collegesand Universities at 217 York St., Suite 201, London, Ontario, N6A 5P9,519-675-7788. A typical apprentice might require 600 to 700 hours oclassroom time (an eight or ten week block o time each year or threeyears). This ormat is called block release.

    gEnERal maChiniSt (BloCk RElEaSE) general machinists build, install, operate, maintain and repair machines and

    machine tools. Youll learn to operate precision metal-cutting instruments and

    grinding machines including lathes, drills and grinders and milling machines.

    Sophisticated computerized numeric control (CNC) systems, requiring good math and

    reading skills, are also part o the modern machinists toolkit.

    induStRial mEChaniC - millWRight(BloCk RElEaSE)

    industrial millwrights install, maintain and repair machinery and tools used inindustry. Whether it is mechanical or automated equipment, a machinist will be

    required to examine and diagnose problems and perorm the work needed to keep

    a line up and running. Youll work with hand and power tools as well as welding

    equipment and you may be required to operate hoisting and liting devices to perorm

    your work.

    BookkEEping CERtiFiCatE this Ontario College Certifcate program will assist the student to acquire

    ComputER aidEd dESign- CAD is extensively used in the design o tools and machinery used in the

    manuacture o components, and in the drating and design o all types o building,

    rom small residential types (houses) to the largest commercial and industrial

    structures (hospitals and actories). With benefts such as lower product

    development costs and a greatly shortened design cycle, CAD enables designers to

    lay out and develop work on-screen, print it out and save it or uture editing, savingtime on their drawings. This program is oered part-time in the evening.

    Food SERviCE WoRkERthis12-weekOntarioCollegeCerticateprogramwillenablethestudentto

    perorm eectively in institutional ood preparation settings in commercial

    and/or long-term care acilities. During the academic portion o the program

    emphasis is placed on ood preparation, service, nutrition and sanitary practices in

    the workplace. This program is oered during the day or in the evening.

    C EcFanshawe College oers part-time certifcate programs and proessional designations. There is a wide range o courses that can be completed through classroom

    learning and/or online. The Continuing Education Division also conducts customized business and industrial training services, conerences and seminars.

    evening. Once a learner has completed LBS, very oten they either move on to ACE or
