Graduates Look Back Before Moving On Last week, our Parish School celebrated the graduation of 56 of its students.

Most of the SVS Class of 2016 will be going to Bishop Gorman High School (75%), with the remaining spread between nine other schools.

While their attention has turned to summer activities before continuing their scholastic career, four graduates and their parents took a moment to look back at their time at St. Viator School . . .

All four students said they would most miss their friends at our Parish School. That’s understandable – three of them started in pre-Kindergarten, the other a year later, so they all spent at least the last nine years together.

Justin Timbal will miss the “nice and caring” attitude of the teachers and his friends. His dad, Rommel, said “a St Viator education reminded Justin to always give glory and thanks to God for God’s many blessings.”

The favorite SVS memory for Ali Stanton and Joshua Bombard was the recent 8

th Grade trip to Washington,

D.C. The class – and chaperones – took a Saturday-to-Thursday trip to Virginia and our nation’s capital. Ali’s favorite part was the moonlight dinner cruise on the Potomac. “A St. Viator education provided a safe and nurturing environment for her to thrive academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually,” said Shari Stanton, Ali’s mom. “It was a second home where she was excited to learn, enjoyed school activities and field trips, developed close friendships, and learned to serve others.”

On the D.C. trip, Joshua most enjoyed all the monuments, particularly the Jefferson Memorial. His mother, Connie Bombard, said Joshua’s “education at St. Viator gave him a foundation for life. He has learned from teachers who actually care about their students and enjoy teaching.”

Emerson Drewes was in a unique situation – her mother, Mrs. Tiffany Drewes, is the 3rd

Grade Aide at SVS. What’s it like going to school with your mother working there? “It’s really not as bad as you would think,” Emerson said with a laugh. “It’s actually kind of nice having your mom here.” Tiffany agrees: “We’re definitely closer because I see her every day. Now it’s going to be ‘Where are my kids? They’re all at Gorman!’” (Emerson has an older sister who also graduated from SVS.)

The SVS community was important to all the parents. “We are a family,” said Connie Bombard. “In the good and the bad, the community holds together for one another.” Shari Stanton said “the best part of the St. Viator Community for myself and my family was the enrichment of our lives through the opportunities to serve.” Tiffany Drewes said “there are great family values here and the Catholic community was fabulous.” “The St. Viator School community was a welcoming place for Justin to learn in a Christ-centered environment,” said Rommel Timbal.

Congratulations and good luck to the SVS Class of 2016 – The Future Is Yours!

Simple, Sacred Summer

Restoration of our church interior will take place this summer. While this work is underway, all weekend Masses will be held in our Parish School gymnasium. Additional seating will be available in the cafeteria with closed circuit television viewing.

Daily Mass will continue to be held in the chapel. Sacrament of Reconciliation will continue to be held in the chapel on Saturdays from 2:30 - 3:30 PM.

Have no fear - both the gymnasium and cafeteria are air conditioned! Also, ushers and greeters will be available to welcome and assist you to feel comfortable in our summer location.

If you are a long-time parishioner, you may remember when Masses were held in our Parish School gymnasium; for you this will be a trip down memory lane. For the majority of us, it will be a new adventure!

Because we will be in the gymnasium, with limited facilities, summer Masses will be simple; a Mass experience similar to what you find during the week in our chapel.

Kneelers will not be available in the gymnasium or cafeteria. You will be seated throughout a large portion of the Mass for your comfort.

If you have mobility issues and normally have Communion brought to you, we ask you to sit in the specially reserved section to facilitate reception of the Eucharist. The reserved seating can be found along the sides of the gymnasium and in the front of the cafeteria for easy accessibility.

Please refrain from wearing spiked heels to Mass this summer. The gymnasium floor could be damaged by this type of shoe.

To celebrate Simple Sacred Summer, our Youth Group will provide free snow cones our first weekend in the gym, which is June 11 & 12. This yummy treat will be available for a small donation throughout the rest of the summer!

PARKING The majority of us will continue to park in the main church parking lot and walk to the school.

The school parking lot will be reserved for our parishioners who have mobility issues. The staff lot, with an entrance off Eastern Avenue, located directly in front of the school office, is designated specifically for individuals with disabled parking placards.

An accessible drop-off area is available in the school horseshoe lot, located directly in front of the school cafeteria, with easy pull through for the driver.

Maps are available in the church foyer, and on the following bulletin pages, to further explain the school parking lots. Lot entrances are clearly marked and the drop-off area is highlighted. We encourage you to take a map and drive over to the school if you normally park in an accessible spot in our church’s lot. Volunteers will be on hand in the school parking lots when Mass begins in the gymnasium to answer questions.
