The events will enable staff to engage in conversation with members of the board, discuss key questions, record their views and identify top priorities for action. Each event will last for about three hours with refreshments provided. Webex benefits available

DO you spend a lot of time travelling to meet your teams? Does your team spend too much time on the road to make meetings? Would you like to reduce your team’s travelling expenses budget? If so then there is now a solution available. The Trust’s IT department can now offer managers a WEBEX service where you can host, and take part in team meetings, from your own offices. The system allows members of the team from all over the Trust patch to dial in to one number and hold a meeting. Webcams are also available so people can see each other on their screens. If you would like to know more about how the Webex system could work for you contact Shaun Bucknill on 01253 957499.

“Webex is a combined audio, video and web conferencing solution that can assist in reducing the amount of travel for meetings, leading to higher productivity and a reduction in costs. “It also means people external to the NHS can join meetings securely without the need for access to our network.’’

Look out for mattress problems THERE have been several incidents of Primo Mattresses leaking out the silicone oil contained in the mattresses onto the floors of some wards. This substance is extremely hazardous underfoot and increase the likelihood of slips. If staff note any of the mattresses in their area are leaking they should leave the mattress in place and inform Medstrom immediately. Medstrom will then replace the mattress. Please do not attempt to remove the mattress yourself as this could pollute further areas, therefore increasing the likelihood of slip trips and falls. It is essential that the immediate area is cordoned off with relevant slip hazard signage, and ISS are called upon to clean

the area as soon as possible.

Information team updates

THE Trust’s Information Governance Team is changing the way it will keep you up to date. The team will now be sending out short regular updates keeping informed about current issues with the topical information and advice relating to recent incidents and events that have taken place. For the latest update from the team please click on the link below. http://bfwnet/misc_notices/2014/IG%20Update%20June%202014.pdf

Smear test appointments

FOLLOWING on from the cervical cancer awareness week that was held recently , the contraceptive team want to be sure that all staff across the trust are up to date with their cervical smear. The contraception team can offer drop in appointments for staff at our weekly Wednesday clinic held in the women’s unit between 2pm and 3pm. The nurse there can also offer contraception and advice on sexual health. Just ask for a registration form at the main desk in the Women’s Unit. Staff get social with Twitter and Facebook OVER the last few months the Trust has been focussing on getting social and engaging with people through so-cial media and it has seen a dramatic increase in the number of people get-ting involved. Since January this year the Trust has gained nearly 500 new followers on Twitter and has broken the 2,000 followers barrier on Facebook. This means that more people than ever are hearing about the good work of the Trust and choosing to share that information with friends as well as getting involved by sharing their views with the Trust directly and taking part in conversations. One such conversation took place recently on Facebook when the Trust asked for people to identify if they were born at the Blackpool Victoria and what they were doing now. The aim was to show the Trust was there for patients from birth through to the end of life. Interestingly, there were nearly 100 people who engaged with that post alone. Twenty sev-en of those made comments and started conversations about how many of them now work at the Trust. This may seem insignificant but the more people who talk about their pride in being part of the Trust the more faith the public who use our services will have in the quality of the care we deliver. The more people engage with the Trust through Social media the more the Trust can listen and learn from their experiences and make improvements. There is plenty lined up for social media campaigns to encourage engagement and to raise awareness. If you’re on Twitter keep an eye out for the Trust starting to use hash tags like #bthunsunghero and #bthonthemenu

Mr Amer, a former Trust employee returned to speak the Thoracic Symposium.

If you have a good idea please let us know at http://fcsharepoint/divisions/global/staffsuggestions/Pages/default.aspx

“The feedback was great and encouraging, 95 % felt the program was well organised and the topics were very well selected and covered a wide spectrum in the thoracic medicine and surgery specialities. The atmosphere was friendly and participants felt free to ask questions and and indeed 90 % of the speakers were scored excellent. Overall it was fantastic day and I wish to thank the faculty for selecting the topics and Mr Dan Croft for organising the meeting.’’
