PRINCIPALS MESSAGE Athletics Carnival We were very fortunate with the weather on Tuesday for our Athletics Carnival. There were a lot of positive comments about the venue and the program that had students actively engaged for most of the day. Congratulations to all the students who attended and participated in a variety of events. Our very best wishes to all the students who have made it to the next level and will be representing Berkeley School at the District Carnival. A big thank you to

Jack Dobinson and Sue Hollick and their team for the organisation of the 3-6 program

Rina Clarke and Mel Tucker for the organisation of the K-2 events

The whole school staff who worked tirelessly all day

All our parent helpers. Such a well-coordinated day which ran very smoothly. Canteen News Congratulations to Kristy and her team in the canteen. The new improved menu was checked against the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy Food and Drink Criteria. Our school is now operating as a Great Choice Healthy School Canteen. Well done! Interviews Thank you to the many families who made appointments online to see their child’s teacher on Wednesday afternoon. It was great to see so many of our families taking the time to share in their child’s learning journey looking at their strengths and areas for improvement. Remember that if a child received a ‘C’ – sound for achievement they are on-track in their learning and you should be very proud of their efforts. Holiday Dates Last Day of Term is this Friday 5 July.

Staff will be participating in professional learning on Monday 22 July relating to best practice in and numeracy teaching, as well as an update in Positive Behaviour for Learning and Visible Learnning.

Term 3 commences for students on Tuesday 23 July.

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.

Kind regards Wayne Osborne Principal

SOUTHERN STARS COMES ALIVE IN 2019 – Tickets on sale!

Southern Stars 2019 COME ALIVE was officially launched at the BlueScope Visitors Centre in Wollongong, where Executive Producer, Paul Roger, announced the theme, and that tickets were officially on sale to the public.

There were some fantastic performances from our featured artists offering a sneak peek of some of the great items from this year’s show. Our 4 Tenors in particular really made an impact, bringing the audience to tears – it was incredible!

The show once again will have something for everyone. The theme and show segments are all based around how students come alive when they perform.

It’s the biggest show in the history of Southern Stars with over 3,000 students from over 100 schools in the Illawarra and around NSW. The students will take part in a world-class two hour arena style variety show that will feature pop, country, rock, and opera.

COME ALIVE includes two circus troupes, audience favourites - the NSW Public School Millennial Marching Band, a 600 strong choir, rock band, our Aboriginal dance ensemble, massive student orchestra, the Black Swans with an original item based on stories of the Illawarra, 2000 dancers, amazingly talented featured artists, the signing choir and disABILITY students fully integrated with our drama students and vocalists, and much more.

As in past years, community support of Southern Stars is vital to ensure its success, and the easiest way of showing your support is by attending one of the four blockbuster shows.

It doesn’t matter if you know anyone performing in the show or not – Southern Stars is a high energy spectacle which provides great entertainment for people of all ages. The talent, energy and enthusiasm of our students, is something not to be missed. Anyone who has attended a show says so!

Over 12,000 people are expected to attend the four performances at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong on Friday August 23 (10am and 7.30pm) and Saturday August 24 (2pm and 7.30pm) - make sure you are one of them!

Please note that tickets should be purchased only through the official ticket booking site of Ticketmaster.

Term 2 Reward Attendance Lunch

Yesterday 189 students were invited for a special reward lunch of hot chips and fresh fruit to recognise their great attendance rate for Term 2. Students who achieve an attendance rate of 95% or above are acknowledged. We celebrate regular attendance and work hard towards maintaining a whole school attendance rate above the state average. Attending school every day makes learning easier and helps children maintain friendships. Colleen Crossingham Instructional Leader
